  1. Anyone who thinks that PCR is a test doesn't understand PCR. Anyone who doesn't understand PCR won't understand the diagnostic test for the SARS-CoV-2 virus (which uses PCR as PART of the test). PCR is a technique, a process, which may be used as a part of a diagnostic test. And such a diagnostic test may indicate if an infectious agent, such as the SARS-CoV-2 virus, is present. And if present, that infectious agent may make you sick. And whether you are sick (have symptoms) or not, you still can pass that infectious agent on to others. As for Mullis and Fauci, Fauci thought AIDS was caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), Mullis didn't think there was any connection between HIV and AIDS (Mullis was called an HIV/AIDS denialist by some). How unusual for a person with a differing view on something to bad mouth someone who has a counter view. You'd never find that on this forum.
  2. And you advocate letting 36,000 potentially disease ridden people into the country.
  3. Any relation to the Greg Hunt who said Australia's vaccination program would be under promised and over delivered.
  4. True Fact... Tennis players did NOT jump the queue. Players and their entourages were brought out under private arrangements by Tennis Australia who hired charter flights and additional quarantine hotels for those involved. Perhaps Free and Open Australia should do the same if they are so concerned about bringing potentially diseased Australians of the streets of Mumbai or Brixton back to Australia. Said tennis players by and large were in quarantine bubbles prior to departing for Australia. If Free and Open Australia were to do this the UNHRC could direct their attention to parts of the world where REAL human rights violations are taking place like Myanmar or the treatment of the Uyghurs in China...true fact. True Fact...For most of the past year my life has been pretty much as it was before the pandemic with the exception of no international travel but I wasn't planning any anyway. Only one case of local transmission in the last year, brought in by some returning diseased traveler. 353 days since the last death from Covid. 375 days since the last case of unknown origin. All brought about by limiting potential sources of infection and the prudent us of lockdowns, only one 2 week period in the past year...true fact.
  5. Does "recovered from it" include those suffering from "long Covid"? According to Office for National Statistics estimates, 1.1 million people in the UK were reporting long Covid symptoms in the four weeks to 6 March 2021. These were defined as symptoms that had lasted more than four weeks from initial infection, though for more than two thirds of these people the symptoms had lasted more than 12 weeks. A fifth said their symptoms limited their daily activities a lot. A study led by the University of Leicester of just over 1,000 people who had needed treatment in hospital for Covid found that the majority (seven in 10) had not fully recovered five months after they were discharged. The report authors said that one in five of those in the study could be considered to have a new disability. Of those who were working before they had Covid-19, 17.8 per cent were no longer working and a further 19.3 per cent had experienced a health-related change to their work. https://www.bhf.org.uk/informationsupport/heart-matters-magazine/news/coronavirus-and-your-health/long-covid 1.1 million is about 25% of cases (in the UK), a figure supported by other studies. I guess They'd like to get on with their lives also.
  6. Live breaking news: New Zealand border worker contracts COVID-19 A border worker at Auckland Airport in New Zealand has tested positive for COVID-19, a day after the travel bubble with Australia opened. The New Zealand airport border worker who tested positive for COVID-19 after being vaccinated had received the Pfizer jab, the nation's Ministry of Health has confirmed. "The person has been fully vaccinated – they received two doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine early in the vaccination campaign – in February and March," the department said, according to the ABC. "We know the Pfizer vaccine is highly effective, but at 95 per cent effectiveness a small number may not be protected. "Breakthrough infections happen with all vaccines. This shows us how important it is that as many New Zealanders as possible take up the offer to receive the vaccine when they are offered it and are protected. The more people that are vaccinated, the more protected we will all be." Note. The vaccine efficacy was assessed against its ability to prevent moderate to severe disease and death. Not against becoming infected. The article I have does not mention the workers actual condition. Perhaps our New Zealand based Rock might have better information.
  7. If the UK is letting people from India in without quarantine they're bloody crazy! The 72 hour before departure test ain't worth shit! 47 passengers test positive after overseas flight A single overseas flight has broken a record for the highest number of COVID-19 infections after all passengers tested negative before boarding. A grim new record has fallen more than a year after the coronavirus pandemic began spreading with the highest number of passengers on a single flight recording a positive test. Indian airline Vistara holds the new record after 47 out of 188 passengers on a flight from Delhi to Hong Kong tested positive. The Indian airline Vistara sent flight 6395 off on the five-hour flight on April 4 confident about the journey after all passengers onboard tested negative to the virus within a 72-hour pre-flight window. But after arriving in Hong Kong where all passengers from overseas are required to enter mandatory hotel quarantine, the cases exploded. Six passengers tested positive upon arrival in Hong Kong but there would be more. There were 25 cases linked to the flight by the end of the first week and another 22 passengers tested positive almost two weeks after arriving. The Hindustan Times reports that after the virus spread among passengers, Hong Kong suspended all flights connecting with India. Sources told the publication that Hong Kong has “also suspended flights to and from Pakistan as well as the Philippines” for a period of two weeks. https://www.news.com.au/world/asia/47-passengers-test-positive-after-overseas-flight/news-story/66440c32e75883100c3728927a557423 A spokesperson for Vistara said “all guidelines issued by the Indian as well as the destination countries’ authorities for all flights” had been adhered to “including all charter flights to and from Hong Kong”.

  9. Well I can tell you it's not Brazil, a country which at present is implementing your ideal solution. Open up and let 'er rip, I wonder if the Brazilians think their lives are back on track. Net result, 67,000 daily cases (7 day rolling average), over 1 million currently infected, 2,870 daily deaths (7 day rolling average) and 370,000 total deaths. And when you have infection running out of control you get more mutations. RIO DE JANEIRO (Reuters) - Brazil’s P1 coronavirus variant, behind a deadly COVID-19 surge in the Latin American country that has raised international alarm, is mutating in ways that could make it better able to evade antibodies, according to scientists studying the virus. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-brazil-variant/brazils-p1-coronavirus-variant-mutating-may-become-more-dangerous-study-idUSKBN2C11XX You might just get your hidden desire with the "saviour" vaccines being rendered useless quicker than you could have even hoped for.
  10. Suez Canal blockage and COVID-19 blamed for garden gnome shortage Fears the Suez Canal blockage would impact global supply chains have been realised with the disappearance of a hot lockdown commodity. Supply chain issues caused by the blockage of the Suez Canal and the COVID-19 pandemic have led to the shortage of a surprising item in hot demand — garden gnomes. Garden gnomes have seen a spike in popularity in the UK as homeowners turn to gardening and outdoor renovations to pass the time during ongoing lockdowns. But the heavy demand, coupled with the recent blockage of the Suez Canal by cargo vessel Ever Given — which caused global trade delays — has led to an unfortunate nationwide shortage of the beloved outdoor ornaments. Ian Byrne from Highfield Garden World in Whitminster, in England’s west, told the BBC the gardening retailer “hadn’t seen a gnome in six months”. “There aren’t any. There’s definitely a shortage,” he said. Meanwhile, in Western Australia... https://www.gnomesville.com.au/ Eat your heart out Poms.
  11. Unfortunately many think like that. Even posters on this very forum, unbelievable I know but true. They also ignore the fact that of the 128 currently active cases nationwide in one country 127 cases were imported from overseas and say "open the borders, let's import more cases".
  12. The ruling, which calls for a response from the Australian government within eight months
  13. Hotels! Most (all) recent outbreaks in Australia have originated from quarantine hotels. Apparently the common return air where all the Covid laden air from individual rooms is combined in the corridors on the way to the return air ducts can infect hotel workers who then take it into the community. The ventilation layout of quarantine hotels is now being factored in. Another Covid fun fact. To fly into Australia, passengers are required to have a negative Covid test before departure. A disproportionate number of passengers arriving from India are testing positive on arrival. Who would have thought it?
  14. Four countries, UK, Israel, Australia and the US. The figures from left to right are total population, percentage of population who have received at least one vaccination jab, daily case rate (7 day rolling average) and daily cases per 1 million population. UK 68m 30% 2741 40 IS 9m 57% 222 25 AU 26m 2.4% 9 0.3 US 333m 30% 72262 217 I don't know about other countries but Australia, everyone entering the country undergoes 14 days quarantine and any outbreaks (virus escaping from quarantine facilities) are controlled with lockdowns (may be limited to outbreak area), testing and contact tracing. This appears to be working although not good enough for the final solution. Which is just as well given the abysmal vaccination rollout. I think we're currently on Plan E, expect an update soon.

    Cricket

Cricket writer Jack Mendel described the plan as 'utterly, utterly nonsensical semantic bollocks', while another writer, Glenn Moore, said it would ultimately detract from the game. “As a lifelong cricketer I think the idea of calling wickets ‘outs’ is patronising and dumb. But does it make cricket more accessible?" he queried. “If so, should tennis do away with 15-15, love, deuce and all that sets and games nonsense Should golf dump birdies and bogies? “My personal view is no. The lexicon of a sport is part of what it makes it distinctive, part, even, of its attraction. The more you learn the more you become an insider, it is like a rewards system. And what next Over - a series of 6 consecutive balls bowled (thrown, tossed, chuck, pitched) provided there are no illegal deliveries (???) by the bowler (thrower, tosser, chucker, pitcher). Or worse still - a hexball.
