  1. Interesting stuff - the James Webb and SKA will also reveal insights that could lead to a whole new type of physics. Relativity and Quantum both appear to be correct, but they obviously both cannot be. I tend to go with Einstein and believe that Quantum is incomplete, rather than Relativity is wrong. There is something big that we are unable to detect, see, or understand. I reckon when we do, that the conflict between Relativity and Quantum will resolve, and the very dubious theories like Expansion, Dark Matter and Dark Energy will disappear.
  2. Will Canada extradite them given Thailand has the death penalty and a court system that is less than 'fair and balanced' ? I figure they will put up a good fight not to be extradited as they will be able to prove all that. How does things go in this situation - anyone know?
  3. Good list and all true. The older one gets the 'better' you need to eat. Starting the Thai diet has helped me lose over 20 kgs - and the golf swing is much better - win/win. But getting the wife to cut down on rice has not been easy. As we all know, Thais are habitual eaters of large amounts of rice, but aside from that the Thai diet is very healthy overall. The only fat Thais you see are those partaking of the 'western' foods. And I replaced the cheap oils she used to use with coconut and olive oils, and ghee, and she loves them now - as long as I pay for them
  4. Ditto - we moved up here to QLD from Albury - far too cold for both of us.
  5. Not the case - I checked it out and confirmed - details below: https://www.govt.nz/browse/tax-benefits-and-finance/new-zealand-superannuation-and-the-veterans-pension/travelling-overseas-with-nz-superannuation-or-the-veterans-pension/ Perhaps that person/s was on Unemployment or some other 'Pension' payment.
  6. This collective work analyzes the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, providing a coherent picture of Ukraine and Eastern Europe in the period 2013–2020. Giving voice to different social groups, scholarly communities and agencies relevant to Ukraine’s recent history, The War in Ukraine's Donbas goes beyond simplistic media interpretations that limit the analysis solely to Vladimir Putin and Russian aims to annex Ukraine. Instead, the authors identify the deeper roots linked to the autonomy and history of Donbas as a region. The contributions explore local society and traditions and the alienation from Ukraine caused by the events of Euromaidan, which saw the removal of the Donetsk-based president Viktor Yanukovych. Other chapters address the refugee crisis, the Minsk Accords in 2014 and the impact of the new president Volodymyr Zelensky and his efforts to bring the war to an end by negotiations among Russia, Ukraine, France, and Germany.
  7. My understanding of the NZ Pension system is that it is the same as the Australian Pension. Once you are receiving it, you can go overseas for up to 26 weeks and get the full payment. But if you decide to live overseas permanently, you can get continue to get it as long as you lived in NZ for at least 10 years, and you can get the max payment if you have lived in NZ for at least 40 years. Please let me know if that is incorrect.
  8. If there is some barriers and police standing around at any place like walking street, then to enter it might be compulsory to take an ATK test. If that happens and you agree, then you have to pay for the ATK test. And if you test positive, you will be taken to the nearest private hospital for a PCR test to confirm and if positive for 'treatment' (at your cost). All for 'public health' reasons of course. Given most Omicron infections are asymptomatic, I suggest anyone being asked to test before entering, politely declines and walks away. Maybe try the other end or a side entrance. Almost 30,000 official cases a day now (obviously a lot more really) - Omicron is rampant in Thailand and will be for a while.
  9. I was wondering why Ukrainians in Kyiv were not fleeing to Belarus - then I found out about the CSTO military alliance that Russia heads up. Hope things are going OK Sherlock - reports suggest civilians are not (so far) being subjected to attacks. Buy maybe if/when Russia overtakes the Ukrainian military forces, then a 'civil war' might commence in western Ukraine with domestic forces doing hit and run attacks at Russian military forces and then hiding amongst the civilian populations. If that occurs, then I can see innocent civilians getting hurt/killed. Hopefully that does not happen of course, and a 'settlement' is reached once a ceasefire is started. I reckon Russia will accept a deal whereby they keep control of eastern Ukraine - less than that and I think they will continue with the total conquest of Ukraine.
  10. More Thai Officials predictions to justify their budget - nothing to do with reality.
  11. We moved to Australia a few years ago - previously lived in Thailand for about 4 years (mainly Chiang Mai). For those unaware, to get the Pension in Australia you have to be living in Australia - that was the main reason we returned. That, and the Junta wanting all non-wealthy Expats to leave and doing that by imposing more and more difficulties - the TM30 and fines was the last straw so we left earlier than planned. The upside of that is the wife is now a permanent resident, and soon citizen, so we can go live in Thailand for a while and return anytime we like. The pension will be soon, and then we plan to return to Thailand for a while. Not sure where yet but Chiang Mai's bad smoke problems have only got worse, so it wont be there. We are in QLD now - started in NSW but it was too cold. Any other Aussies on this forum?
  12. Many stories of both ways - 'all good' and 'no good'. My advice is to only agree to 1 months 'bond' if you can. When you are using an agent (not really agents in Thailand) they are usually paid whatever your first 2 months rental will be, so it is them that often will try to get 2 or 3 months deposit. But whatever you do, do not tell the agent/owner that you are renting for a while then going back to another country. Tell them all that you are looking to stay long term, but after a year or two you might buy a property. When leaving give more than the required notice and say you are moving to another city or have bought a place. As already said, the deposit is for you not paying the utilities bill (electricity, water) after leaving, as well as any damage. Suggest at end you try to agree to an amount your bills will be after you leave (give past ones to show amounts) and offer to deduct that from the deposit refund - plus let them fully inspect the place for damage well before you leave - that worked for us both times.
  13. Married to a Thai almost 10 years now - we lived in Chiang Mai and Bangkok - we now live in QLD Australia. Plan to move full-time to Thailand in a few years - not sure where yet. Not Chiang Mai - too much smoke. We both play golf and like to travel and love Thailand especially the food and the people (not the politicians/wealthy).
