Catching a long distance train (23 hours each way) in a first class sleeper. Hop off at an outback country town (Barcaldine) for a night and then get the same train back again. Away for 4 days/ 3 nights.

I started at 131kgs and dropped to 86kgs mainly I believe from giving up beer for 12 months drinking vodka and soda instead. I love beer and started back on it harder than ever and now back to 112kgs. Trying to cut down my visits to the pub to lose some weight again. Fat me: Skinny me:

My wife made something different yesterday and she ended up calling it her Thai Aussie soup. It was going to be her normal pork noodle soup but she decided to use ravioli instead of noodles. Very nice it was.

I got a text from DTAC saying I have been with them for 15 years but I know I have had the same number with them since 2001. Anyway all I do each trip is log onto our accounts and add a data package that suits our trip to our existing phone numbers. The data package is finished at the expiration date but the phones keep working as long as it has credit. Our phones stay active for 12 months from each topup.

The old joke something along the lines of: I'm not going on that ship again as all night the cabin boy was banging on the door. Finally I had enough so got up and let him out.

This morning after rain all night long.

I don't claim to know all the details as I try to not get involved in my wife's financial dealings but from what I see she appears to save money and then with this she buys gold. When her friends are short of cash she gives them money in exchange for their gold. She once showed me a pile of gold jewellery she had and it was quite imressive. She must be doing OK as previously when she wanted things (cars, land, helping out family etc) I would lend her the money. These days she uses her gold to pay for these things. Recently she had to spend 160,000 baht for work done on her land in Pattaya and this was done by sending gold with one of friends going back to Thailand who then gave it to my wife's sister. The sister then sold it at a Gold shop to pay for the work done. Gold seems an easy way of building wealth for many Thais.
