  1. Just what Pattaya needs - more markets and more beer bars!
  2. I think you are probably correct, and the hotels paid for the existing road. But that leads to the question: who is paying for the new works? It sounds likely to me that there will be building on that waste ground in the near future.
  3. I haven't done the Ho Chi Minh trail, so can't comment! 🙂
  4. Something good might have come out of the Soi 15 fiasco! When Soi 15 was inaccessible at both ends, the sub-soi that runs between Soi Buakhao and Soi 15 was being used a lot. (Many of us refer to it as Soi Casino, for what are now only historical reasons! 🙂) Soi Casino is mostly a dirt track with bad potholes, except where it runs from Soi 15 up to between the Whisper and Kokotel hotels, where it has been concreted. I notice today that it has been blocked off where the concrete ends, and it looks like the concreting is being extended.
  5. Closed for renovation all this week, re-opening on the 10th -
  6. Apologies in advance, this is not a helpful comment! I had the same problem about a year ago: I couldn't find any that fitted anywhere. I ended up having some specially made, but it was neither cheap nor quick. Some people are fortunate to have glasses on which clip-ons will fit easily. But there are some frames which are problematic.
  7. https://www.nationthailand.com/thailand/general/40031475 SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 2023 The terminal, for which a soft opening was held on Friday, is designed to handle 15 million passengers annually, marking a 33% increase in the airport’s capacity from 45 million passengers to 60 million. Currently, two airlines are scheduled to use the SAT-1 terminals for specific routes. They are: Thai AirAsia X flights to and from Japan (Tokyo, Osaka, Sapporo), South Korea (Seoul), and China (Shanghai) Thai Vietjet Air flights to and from Singapore, Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City) and Taiwan (Taipei). “Check your boarding pass. If it says Gate S101 to S128, that means you need to travel from the main terminal to SAT-1 terminal to board your flight,” AOT director Kirati Kitmanawat said, adding that passengers are advised to use the automated people mover (APM) as the terminals are one kilometre apart. Kirati added that according to a trial run, travelling from the main terminal to SAT-1 takes no more than 18 minutes. Since the APM leaves every five minutes, he said, passengers should ensure they have at least 20 minutes to spare. During the soft opening, up to 18 flights will use the SAT-1 terminal, 14 of which will be Thai AirAsia X and remainder Thai Vietjet Air. The terminal will be operating at full capacity by the end of this year. Airlines that have expressed interest in using the new terminal include Emirates, Etihad, Qatar, Mahan Air, All Nippon and Thai Airways International. The AOT estimates that in the first month of the soft opening, SAT-1 will handle 514 flights, with 142,761 passengers in total or 4,605 per day.
  8. Red Hot and Blue, in Soi Buakhao, has all beers at 99 THB all evening, and some good looking gogo girls to ogle (who, surprisingly, don't hassle you for drinks) .
  9. When my mother died, I tried returning some stuff - including a walking stick and an unused hearing aid. They didn't want to know. That was 14 years ago, so it seems nothing has changed.
  10. This resident does not concur! If a job's worth doing, it's worth doing properly.
  11. For a newly built road, it is a bit of a disgrace. Look at it after we've had some rain: if you are a pedestrian, you have to navigate your way around the pools of water (and take care that you don't walk out in front of a moving vehicle). I have renamed it Klong 15!
  12. If you have been in Pattaya over the last few years you will recall the work done on the headland by the Dusit Hotel. They moved cages of rocks there, and covered them with sand. I think this was an attempt to stop some of the beach erosion. I had always hoped that they would build a path around the headland. There once was a ricketty wooden pathway there which fell apart. The headland from a distance now looks quite smart from Beach Road, and I was curious whether the work done had included the pathway. So, last Friday, I went to take a look, and found that the answer was that it didn't. Here are a few pictures I took then:
  13. Just playing devil's advocate here! If your mate in Sweden was playing around, would you feel the need to tell his wife?
  14. The concreting of the Second Road end Soi 15 appears to be complete. Not only that, but road markings are being done. The bad news is that the concrete feels very undulating when walking over it, so be prepared for wet feet after some rain if you are a pedestrian. I'm not entirely sure of the status of Second Road at that intersection. It might be regarded as complete, but I hope not as there are a lot of improvements which could be made e.g. see the drain cover in this picture:
  15. Sadly, this year it has started early - namely, today! I understand that the prevailing winds have been from the north for the past couple of days, and that is why we are having the pollution.
  16. I have noticed today that new seating, looking very similar to what they had before, is being installed along the new Beach Road pavement:

  18. I think this should be required watching for everyone:
