  1. It's rare to for me to see any snakes while out on jungle trail, but today while setting trail I climbed out of ravine to see a black cobra at the edge of a cassava field I was about to go into. Usually they see me, I see them, and they slither away. But not this one. Think his startle reflex kicked in as he reared up with his hood and fangs out and stayed that way while I very, very slowly backed away. After about a minute he slithered away, but paused to look back just before disappearing into the underbrush. Not my picture, but one off the internet that is about the size of the once I encountered.
  2. I got over my modesty when using the WC after my first arrival at BKK. Relieving myself was surprised to see female cleaning staff doing their thing while I was draining a flight's worth of fluids. Still draw the line at a shoulder rub while I got my willy out though.
  3. That's if they go at all. From reading posts on another board it sounds like quite a few have BF's and just hang out in the bar to socialize and pickup extra money as drink sluts.
  4. Long may the potholes live. IMHO, I like a little adversary as I stumble from drinking hole to drinking hole. Not every bar on the soi is to my liking, but there is enough diversity in the choices that there is bound to be something that suits everyone's favorite place to enjoy a drink, and more.
  5. Slutz will be easy to find with what might be the largest sign on Soi Pothole.
  6. The city council is certainly demonstrating a weird sense of aesthetics. No trees, no kites, but let's pack the vehicles in.
  7. The app uses the phone's microphone to sample the sound coming in and reports back the level in decibels, dB. I use Sound Meter. To keep this OT, I'll have to give it a try next time a thunderboomer rolls through the area.
  8. Bank repossesses the wrong house in central Thailand A woman from Pathum Thani, just north of Bangkok, couldn’t believe her eyes when she returned home to her locks changed, all her belongings seized, and a ‘for sale’ sign outside her house. Thailand’s “Government Savings Bank” (the pink one) sent bailiffs to repossess a house in Wanasiri Park View Village on September 5. The bailiffs changed all the locks and seized everything – even going as far as cutting down trees and removing the house’s awnings. To add insult to injury, the homeowner – Kanchana – later found out that a “worker” (possibly one of the bailiffs?) had been sleeping in her seized house and using her electricity and water for “three or four days.” The bailiffs put up signs saying, “for sale,” “do not trespass” and “property of the bank.” The sign stated that house number 99/44 belonged to the bank, but the sign was placed outside house number 99/38. Confused, a neighbour rang Kanchana on September 15 and asked her what was going on. ...
  9. Get married and the requirement drops to 40K/month.
  10. I have a db app on my phone and the sad thing is it registered around 86db when I tried it out in Tree Town one evening.
  11. Seems like a normal rainy season to me. Quite different though from drought we endured the last couple of years. A welcome relief to that.
  12. Construction update on the new market next to Nirun. @Yesitisdakid, if I inadvertently captured your room in the pic, let me know and I'll blur it out. They've started clearing another plot of land ahead of construction. Looks like this area will be covered market stalls. Not looking forward to the traffic congestion that is bound to happen due to the narrow road and inadequate space for parking.
  13. The garden is currently getting a good soaking and one of my dogs is huddled at my feet and under my desk to escape the thunderboomers.
  14. Does immigration require the amount to be posted on the same day every month?
  15. According to this site Mabprachan is at 89% of capacity and Huai Chak Nok is at 70%. I'll get out and take some pics sometime in the next week or two.
  16. Found their FB page (link) and from that a location, east side of Mabprachan. A new GC. A post from early Sept said they were shooting to open 6 Oct.
  17. Quite happy with my, non-translating, 148B Bluetooth earbuds (link).
  18. Interesting, but price is a bit too rich for me to give it a try. Noticed the delivery date on their website uses a strange date format. Never seen anyone use MM/YYYY/DD before. Also you can get them for 3,490B on Lazada (link). Oops, just noticed that's for the M2, the M3 is listed on Lazada for 7,444B (link).
  19. Back from an enjoyable tasting party, sampling @Derek Dangleberries fine selection of home brew wine.
  20. Dreary morning in Pattaya. The light rain did help keep me from overheating on a 9km recce for hash trail this morning. Pic taken on a high point near Rugby School. The sliver of water in the distance is Mabprachan Reservoir with Pattaya barely visible through the light rain.
  21. The carriers have a special number you can enter and "call" that will stop spam SMS's. For True... How to Stop Spam SMS messages from True (TrueMove H) Eventually, I got around to looking it up and found that it’s very easy to unsubscribe from the SMS spam sent by True themselves: Call *137 from the phone you want to unsubscribe (I had to put the SIM from my tablet into a phone to make the call). Press 9 for English. Follow the automated instructions (as of 2014, you press 1 to unsubscribe from SMS spam although this may have been changed to pressing 2 in April, 2020.).
