  1. So the BoT's rate cut had a major impact on the Baht - not! [rolleyes]
  2. I've got three different models of Daikin air cons in my shack and the remotes are interchangable, or at least the on/off and temperature controls work with them all. I don't mess with the more complicated functions, as I just know I'll bugger something up if I do!
  3. I don't see one here specifically for your model but they're pretty simple and all do much the same thing. Have a look if one of these looks like your remote, worth a try as they're cheap enough. Or if you have a contact number, call Mitsubishi Thailand and ask which remotes will work with your air con. https://www.lazada.co.th/catalog/?q=mitsubishi+air+con+remote+control&_keyori=ss&from=input&spm=a2o4m.home.search.go.624c719c8yTBtY
  4. Pattaya has many different sources of water. In my part of South Pattaya the water supply is piped up from Sattahip. And don't forget they still have the enormous pipeline they built back in - when was it? - 2005 or so, from the Bang Pakong river. The pipeline's still there, though I suspect they won't have maintained any of the pumping equipment.
  5. Damn, my favourite steak house is up for sale, plus the barbecue place next door. You can buy Smokin' Joes, Steak & Co. and their 18-bedroom guest house for a mere 15 million Baht. https://www.bahtsold.com/view/two-established-restaurants-18-room-guesthouse-in-central-pattaya-369636
  6. Just got 38.86 at TT. Not brilliant, but definitely better than the 36.86 I got two months ago!
  7. PADDLETON Not a big budget movie at all, but one of the best films I've seen in a long time. It deals with a difficult subject and could so easily have made a mess of it, but they got it just right. Well worth a look. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt8041276/
  8. Even if you buy something from a US or European company, you'll probably still find that it's made in China.
  9. I don't have problems with Oman Air, but then again I fly business class. I do strongly dislike the security staff at Muscat airport though. The ridiculous security screening after you get off the plane is just completely OTT. I find them rude and loutish. On my last flight I had a bottle of duty free champagne that I’d bought in Heathrow T4, all safely packaged and sealed with the receipt visible inside, yet still they tried to give me the third degree about it. A year or two back a fellow BC traveller from BKK to LHR had a couple of bungee cords in his hand baggage (in their original packaging). The security screening showed these up and the way the guards reacted you’d swear he had a loaded gun in his bag. He was given the seventh degree for that. Don’t they have motorbikes and bungee cords in bloody Oman? These wankers could learn a thing or two from the (usually) polite Thai security staff at Swampy.
  10. The pound was up to 39.20 earlier on XE, just after the agreement was announced. It's since fallen back to 38.80, so 38.70-38.75 at TT, probably due to the DUP playing hardball, or rather refusing to play ball.
  11. Yeah, people in panic mode, understandably. The Chiang Mai video was clearly about the OA visa if you watch it, but hardly anybody did, they just believed what the OP said. Actually, I wonder if even he bothered to watch it, lol.
  12. Bloody TT and its weekend rates! It's currently 38.50 on XE, which should translate to 38.30-38.35 in TT during the week.
  13. Gawd, let's hope they can sort something out and the eejits in Parliament don't blow it in another bout of vanity. I had fairly strong views on Brexit at one time, but I'm so utterly fed up with the personal ego-trip that the whole fiasco has become for many MP's that I just want to see it finished, and I don't much care how it ends any more. If the positive noises continue next week maybe we can look forward to seeing 40 THB/GBP in TT again one of these days. Fingers crossed, touch wood, etc., etc.
  14. To get an OA you've always had to show a medical report as well as a police check from your home country, but they've never applied those rules to a Non-O and annual extensions. Whatever their logic there, I see no reason why they would treat health insurance any differently.
  15. Same, same. I've had the 800K in an SCB fixed-interest deposit account for a decade and have never touched it (with interest it's now worth around 840K!). Immigration have always been quite happy with a fixed-interest deposit account (same-day access to your money was their main concern, so no SFF accounts allowed), and the whole idea of such an account is that it's not meant for day-to-day use, so there's obviously no need to show regular transactions.
  16. I'm not shedding any tears, in spite of making something over 7,000 posts there over the years. A drop in the ocean compared with Chang Fai's 70,000+, but when he left the board due to the ignorance of an illiterate, drugged-up moron, with no support from the admin, it was pretty clear that the end was nigh. It was a fun and (mostly) friendly place to post for quite a few years, but as Robert Frost said, "Nothing gold can stay." Over the last few months it's become painful even to look at it, poor old big john with his daily power walk exchange rate update, and that was about as informative and useful as it got. They shoot horses, don't they? Same should apply to boards that outlive their purpose.
  17. And one for the Rugby World Cup fans, lol!
  18. Well one thing's for sure, the days when we thought 50 Baht for a pound was a rip-off are well and truly over.
