I like the Lindeman's range, there's something there for everybody. Readily available in Friendship and Big C, 599 Baht a bottle usually. They do a Cabernet-Merlot and a Shiraz-Cabernet too, so no need to get gored drinking the same wine over and over.

I've got a Canuck mate who lives in Amnat Charoen, north or NW or Ubon. He loves it there, nice and quiet and he can go on long motorbike rides around Isaan and the North when he gets fed up with wifey nagging him. The downside is that to get a decent loaf of farang-style bread means a 100 mile round-trip into the Tops supermarket in Ubon. He goes to farang-oriented cafes and so on, and meets up with farang friends, but the distances involved generally seem to be a pain in the proverbial. Personally I like Pattaya with everything I need a few klicks from my doorstep, but if you don't like big cities then I can well understand that up around the Ubon are a would be a nice place to live. I think I'd try and get somewhere near the river, though.

I saw that one on the radar, looked like it was heading out to sea. Down here in the sunny sarf of Pattaya we had a few spots of rain at Tesco Lotus around lunchtime, but other than that nothing.

XE is quoting 40.33 at the mo', which would mean 40.15-40.20 in TT. I guess the 40.05 is the result of weekend hedging. Interesting to see that the Euro is close to crashing down into the 34's. There was a good piece on the impending Eurozone recession in the Torygraph two days ago. Germany's a mess and a large part of the EU is looking as bad or worse.

I can recommend Oman's business class, not quite as good as Qatar but not too far off, and usually +/-500 quid cheaper. I've flown with them a few times and will be happy to do so again as long as the price is right. A big difference now that the new terminal is open in Muscat and there's no more being bussed across the apron.
