Mai Thai Restaurant and Lounge Bar

Recommended Posts

This restaurant has become one of our must visit places when we are in Pattaya. I know its a favourite of John Luke and Thinkingallowed as well and sure they will vouch for the fine Thai dining experience this place offers. You will find it about 500 metres up from the dolphin roundabout on the left hand side before naklua 18. And for those that appreciate strong Belgium beers  this place is worth a visit just to sit outside and sup a few, they usually have some form of live music playing in the evening. On this occasion I had some stunning ribs to start, cant remember what the missus had, we were served a couple of Amuse Bouche before our Mains and I then had a red curry with Duck, pineapple lychees and grapes with the chips 🙂 . For dessert my wife had mango and sticky rice and I had the fried banana in spring roll with choc sauce. During the evening I consumed a couple of bottles of La Corne Triple at 10% and a couple of bottles of Kwak at a 8.4% whilst the missus stayed sober and made sure I didn`t get run over by one of those huge tour buses on Naklua rd 🙂 I vaguely remember parting with 3000 bht and thinking we must do this again.

Use Mai Thai usually about once or twice per week when in Pattaya.  Food is top quality and good variety including European and Thai foods.  Good selection of wine and beers.

Pricewise it is usually around 1100 1200 mark when we both have soup, main course, wine/beer.  You also get a little starter free.  Occasionally they bring a mango desert as a free extra.  Pleasant atmosphere usually with a singer outside.  Lighting is very much directed onto the tables.  Kitchen looks spotless.  They even wipe the table after one has finished ones main course.

Pretty much agree. The flavour has been bred out of a lot of Jasmine rice in the drive for production.

How about Thai tofu?  The "Zelig" of foods, no taste of its own, tastes like whatever it's served with.  Even Korean tofu has more and better flavor.

Great pics Gary and looks well worth a visit. Strong Belgian Beers make it a tough call though as 3 of those and I’m out like a light.

With you there Andy, the only time I will eat rice is in an Indian if I know there chips are crap, then I will have mushroom fried rice and maybe only eat half of that.

Tofu is an every day ingredient in Indo village food.

I touched the stuff once in my live many moons ago, made me nearly vomit.... Banned.

Korean tofu actually isn't bad.  It's used in many recipes including soups and starters as well as mains.  It has a coarser texture than Thai tofu, and a grainy or nut-like flavor.

Dubu kimchee, delicious:
