  1. A Taco Bell opened up in my blighted corner of North London about 2 months before I finally quit. Guess it made a difference from the chicken shops. Probably an aspiratioanl brand for the kids stabbing each other to death. One outside the tube station, one outside of Tesco in my final year there. Exported garbage American food meets their exported gang culture.
  2. Maybe I am more conservative than you but Revolut is one I'd avoid on gut instinct. Cypto trading is a red flag for me that I'd never put money into a platform that offered it. Then there's the general lack of any regulation around the products they offer. After seeing FTX go down, I wonder how many other of these are out there? Rising interest rates make me generally more cautious expecting to see more corporate failures as firms who've been betting with borrowed money go to the wall. But add in the cryto part and I get nervous!!!
  3. Re-reading this wonderful epic. Read it on holiday in LOS years back and my memories of it are sketchy Most likely read with a mid-afternoon, early evening beers in the PBG😀
  4. Excellent- hadn't realised he'd written that many books!! I enjoyed The Lost Man of Bombay, it was closer in style to the Colin Cottererill books than Heron. Asian setting, touch of whimsical humour but nowhere near as good to my tastes. Still enjoyed it though for it was.
  5. Thanks have just started on the same. Two chapters in and it's excellent read. His characterisation is brilliant, how it rates a lowly 3.7 out of 5 on Goodreads puzzles me. Maybe some right it off as "Asian fiction" but it's way better than that. Really enjoyed Hunters in the Dark too that you mentioned on here👍
  6. Stayed a week off Soi Buakhao soi 21 in mid Jan, traffic on the main road was horrendous. The area seemed a magnet for dickheads of all nationalities. Won't ever visit at that time of year again. Agree totally.
  7. That's sound more pleasant than Pattaya Jan high season to me!!! I've given up trying to replicate the holidays I had even 10 years ago. My body can't take it. Think boxing clever is the way to have fun. Lay off the booze for a few nights a week, do some regular tourist stuff and vary up the routine. There's still fun to be had out there. PP was overflowing with girls, if you believed what you'd read online it wasnpt safe to walk the streets, let alone possible to have fun out.😀
  8. No it was an afternoon on the beer with some old friends. Bit of high class soakage before the ale!! But sat am home now with a cheap supermarket pizza in the oven, wish I'd got one wrapped up to take away.
  9. Chilli Paneer wrap from a proper Indian all vegetarian market stall. Absolutely wonderful, best I've had since working there.
  10. Fantastic, just the 131 days then!!! I've been doing ok but it's fallen apart the last 2 weeks on the road. Back home tonight, you've inspired me to get back to a healthy routine 👍
  11. Great idea, should have begun my post about my injury rehab detailing how it began with resistance bands!!
  12. Well done on the weight loss. My advice on weights would be to begin with the smallest weight possible. That I would put at a max of 4KG per dumbell, but start with lower I began my year with a horrible shoulder injury that required a steriod injection to take down the inflammation. Took me 5 months of rehab exercises to get near the the giddy heights of 4KG More importantly and tapping into previous threads from @Krapow your Doctor and/or Nurse should be able to provide with an exercise referral- free gym!!! Along with a free few months I'd hope you get someone to draw up an appropriate program for you Good Luck!
  13. Love everything he's written from Liars Poker(which is a fantastic primer on the world of Investment Banking) right through to the Blind Side and Moneyball. Have met him person after a public talk at the London School of Economics. No ego at all which is something for such a talented man.
  14. Michael Lewis Flash Boys about the corrupt world of computerised trading and stock market manipulation. Comes with possibly the best book inscription ever.
  15. Budwar lager. Pub had a line with Budwar Dark, but it was out of action.
  16. I'm lost. Where are people not going on July 1st? Agree Secrets and the forum were Siamese twins. Who'd have left WS to go there without the forum. But where's the latest I film you, you film me and we all report on the same non-event happening 🙂
  17. Good info. My old case that lasted a good 20 years was just made from fabric. Replaced it with a Samonite where I seem to carrrying around several kilos that's just the frame! Discovered I've got Dunelm 3 miles away,ẃill check it out next week for a lighter case👍
  18. If they have it, the Lion Stout is fantastic!!
  19. Not for me Judith. Too passive, I much prefer being forced to get my head around the written word.
  20. Fair enough it will vary from artist to artist. I saw the Pixies open in Manchester last year. The sound was dreadful, all the songs had been cut down circa 2 mins, like some basterdised high speed karoake. It was all standing and for the 5 numbers I stayed for my view was obstructed as almost everyone in front of me had their arms up filming the concert. At their peak they were a brilliant live band, in a run where I saw acts from REM, ACDC, the Pogues, Def Leopard(!!!) among other they were right up there. On the upside, saw Steve Earle on last Friday- he was tremendous.
  21. Not in BKK but same experience from me with nostalgia concerts. I've stopped going to them as they were trashing memories of seeing the same artists at their peak. Only exception I'll make is if the artist is still producing new material
  22. My Fitbit Charge 5 watch stopped stone dead this morning- maybe God's way of telling me not to go for a run this morning😀 Thankfully a very short web chat with Fitbit support and they are dispatching a new one. Other option was 50% off another Fitbit model. Was delighted to be able to get a replacement as somehow have no receipt for the original!! Retail cost of the watch was circa £100, so around $130. Until I get a replacement am using my old Fitbit charge 4. Went for the upgrade as the charge 4 is very difficult to read in bright sunlight. Anyone on here have any experience of the "cheaper" trackers like the Charge 5?
  23. Yep. The ridiculous declaration already seemed to the point to the fact we had too many batters.
