  1. I secretly love to cover my cock in gold leaf and get a Thai bar girl to lick it off; It's my gilty pleasure.
  2. Yes same here, it's still the finest book of the thai (bar) girl did me wrong genre. Private Dancer is the next best because Steve Leather is a damn good thriller/mystery writer who also happened to write a book about a bar girl, not a bitter ex-tourist /expat trying to write as their 2nd/3rd/4th/5th... career. I will try to get hold of A True Friend of China too now then 👍
  3. Same book, same writer, but the original title. He didn't write much else. His real name was Jack Jones. Andrew Hicks researched his life a lot - https://peoplethingsliterature.com/2015/10/07/an-interview-with-andrew-hicks-author-of-jack-jones-a-true-friend-of-china/
  4. Yesterday, I received this, 1956, First Edition, near mint (excuse reflections on cellophane wrap), chuffed to bits 😎
  5. Was absolutely gutted and lost for words when one of my best mates who is very much embedded in F1 messaged me to tell me about Charlie passing. I met him a few times. Everything everyone else has already said about him is what I would say too. Charlie was a very, very, rare example of a truly nice guy doing a hugely difficult job.
  6. Not Pattaya, but Chiang Mai had the worst air quality in the world yesterday. Bangkok could only manage to be the 8th worst in the world on the same chart/measurement.
  7. Went to this last summer. Perfect day, perfect music 😎
  8. Great pics, thanks! I was there about a year ago (been a few times) and I generally spend a couple of days walking the length of the island and having a quick look at every beach. The road is now very good (it was full of massive pot-holes and reduced to rubble for a while in some sections) the whole length of the island but when you walk down through the forest to the beaches it is just full of trash/rubbish which is very sad to see in an National Park, especially considering how much Baht they collect from visitors, and after the army 'cleaned up' the island a couple of years ago.
  9. Great thread idea. Best thing about The Daily Torygraph is the Obits now. Wing Commander Tim Elkington, who has died aged 98, was one of the last surviving pilots who fought in the Battle of Britain, and was one of only two survivors of the RAF Hurricane Wing that operated with the Russians from the Arctic port of Murmansk. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/obituaries/2019/02/03/wing-commander-tim-elkington-fought-battle-britain-went-hurricane/
  10. Jack Shirley, one of the men behind Operation Momentum used to own a share I believe and regularly held court there, his sometime partner in The Company and sometime buddy (apparently they loved to argue and regularly came to blows) was Tony Poe who the Colonel Kurtz character in Apocalypse Now was based on. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Momentum https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2003/apr/15/20030415-090726-4404r/
  11. Watching snooker. Can never decide if I like/want Ding to win/do well or not; he's odd, even for a snooker player.
  12. It was absolutely awful in Bangkok from mid December, made me ill.
  13. Annoyed I never made it to Pattaya and Le Pub on this trip even though I had room booked and paid for at one of the nicer LK places for 2 nights 🙁 I was sick as a dog in Bangkok for 3-4 days and i'm sure it was down to the ridiculous pollution/smog, never seen or experienced it like that in 11 years of visiting before, on clear days the sun was totally blotted out by thick haze all across the city. I was passed out/slept for 25 hours out of 48 at the worst of it, horrid thick sticky throat and chest for 2 weeks after.
  14. I do like a bit of Blue. Best thing about the BA lounge these days is that they still have this after they've downgraded most of the other spirits and champs. Get funny looks pouring yourself a treble at 9am though 😁 I might be in Pattaya next week for a bit, I'll pop in if I am, how much is it, do I need to bring my credit card? 😉
  15. https://www.theshackletonwhisky.com/ They found bottles of the whisky Shackleton took to the Antarctic (he took 25 CASES of it!) buried under his base camp and have reproduced it. It's not at all bad.
  16. Fully live, look how much they're actually concentrating at playing the keys haha. Rare on TOTP to be fully live back then. Hooky's flanged Bass sounds fantastic. Oh, and look how young Steve Wright is as he introduces it :-0) 35 years ago 😮
  17. 94th minute....unlucky for the barcodes.
  18. Sitting on couch barely able to move after far-too-much Sunday lunch in a pub.
  19. I used to like the bar girls who got tattoos of a scorpion on their shoulders. I'm sure a farang told one to get it done first of all and it spread from that or maybe the same guy got multiple girls to have it done. No girl with one ever knew the actual meaning of it when I asked them. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Scorpion_and_the_Frog
  20. I get that flight sometimes. Spend longer on the tarmac at LHR than in the air quite often!
