  1. I liked him in Corrie, he was bloody funny at times.
  2. Don't ticks potentially carry Lyme disease?. horrid little fuckers.
  3. Welcome to all our new Members, get stuck in lads, we're a friendly bunch.
  4. I've had this with a bit of gear at home, basically a multi port charger which worked fine and dandy for 8 months, then started to become very delicate, although it hadn't been moved from its position. I've swapped out all the bulbs in our house in UK and most of the ones in our place in the PI, but I went for Philips or Silvaynia bulbs, which are probably chinese made anyway but seem to be doing the job.
  5. Not read it Dave, didn't know you'd put pen to paper but will pick up a copy when I'm next in town and settle in for a chat and a coffee. Will you sign it for me please?.
  6. sorry if I offended you with my attempt at humour, I didn't mean to sully the memory of your Father and the sacrifices he and his generation made for all of us. I really didn't mean anything by it. Apologies.
  7. It was a joke mate. My Grandad was put to work on the Railway, he returned home but was never the same again. took his own life in 1980.

That'll be that physics thing... I actually carried over for Ben way back the line coolers for the draft beer set up in FLB (minus the relevant gas bottles), they weighed a fair bit but fair play to him, he coughed up for the excess baggage charge.

I'm more concerned on how the cold beer gets from the glass to my tummy. Can't abide warm beer, it's even worse when I;m in LOS and the SM light from 7-11 just isn't cold enough.
  10. My Wife's grandfather died during construction of that Railway. He fell out of his guard tower.
  11. In this design of lights that I've seen, the ballast and starter are in an assembly which is in the ceiling cavity mounted on the reverse of the fixing plate. If you look there appears to be an outline in black dust of a small ballast unit in the middle of the circular plate, as ballasts generate heat and a charge and as such attract dust particles over time. there's also a couple of metal clips pushed through from behind that fix the ballast in place and don't correlate to the light itself - although the ones I've seen are always screwed in. Either way, it's not costing the OP a penny so it really doesn't matter.
  12. I really liked the Canterbury Tales, but only went in on a handful of occasions. I do recall sitting down once and the conversation on another table being about how long a bloke was in one of the massage places opposite. Never went to Crazy Daves. Didn't the Canadian conman "Harris Black" do part of a commercial for them once?.
  13. That's FBWU's post, might not be the same as the one fitted. If you look at the one on the ceiling , it's one tube and doesn't have the individual light diodes as the one in the pic above. Anyway I'd be slightly concerned about the scorch marks as well - if that's what they are. I'm going for flouro. Bet ya one virtual San Miguel and a beach rd barfine that it is. 😋
  14. That'll go down well with the Chinese Tourists. (Image credit to @john luke )
  15. It's a florescent I think. Can't see the ballast though. As @boydeste mentioned.
  16. Police Sergent Somchai Teamoney added: "further to the investigation, a man known only to everyone under the nickname @Nightcrawler was seen fleeing the area once the fight had started. He had with him one of the Transgender Escorts , 4 tubes of lubricant and 6 packets of condoms. Police are keen to track down this individual and take a witness statement from him, as the British tourists insist it was all his idea in the first place".
  17. Those are very popular in the Philippines as well, our Master Bedroom had one until I swapped it out for LED downlights. They're cheap and relatively low energy, but Flouro's tend to dim with age rather than completely "blow" like a regular incandescent bulb does. Get him to change the starter at the same time, if he's got one with him.
  18. I'm saddened to see that, I had a couple of good evenings in there. The girls were fun, decent attitudes and it's a shame to see it go.
  19. Fair point you make there. I think rents are going up on the Soi as it becomes more popular, there's a BM here who had a premises there for years who can probably attest to that ( @Daveo ) As margins are squeezed on the high volume products such as Chang, SM Light and Singha nowadays, it does make you wonder how they'll survive. I think the popular bars will always have an Expat loyalty but whether that's enough to pay the bills during low season is anyone's guess. Like yourself I enjoy afternoons down Pothole, Dive bar being a firm favourite and Maggie Mays also. There are a couple of bad eggs among them however, myself and @Nightcrawler went into a bar called "Green Lantern" and found that a JD coke was just over 200 baht. Never went back.
  20. It's also lucky that Aircraft use different types of Navigational aids to verify their position, as GPS spoofing is a thing, and Iran are guilty of using it recently, although it has not been fully proven, but offered as the most reasonable explanation. https://www.mcafee.com/learn/what-is-gps-spoofing/ https://lloydslist.com/LL1128820/Seized-UK-tanker-likely-spoofed-by-Iran
  21. It was a great venue back in the day, well managed with consistently good food. I used to stay at the Flipper on 8 and have a hungover breakfast almost every day at the Pig or Rosies. On the subject of hotels, I think the Eastiny group is no more, as the hotel on Soi 10 has been derelict for ages.
  22. Sailor bar is arguably a Soi 8 institution these days. Many thanks to @john luke for the brilliant set of pics of both Sois. It looks like 8 is crying out for investment, the Eastiny Hotels are both derelict and empty along with a few other properties, a far cry from the days of Cherry Bar and others when the Soi was just brilliant. I wonder if the old Soi 8 GoGo is still operating?. I was in Rolling Live last year, only a handful of customers on the nights we were there, which is a shame as the band is very good, as is the service. I've no idea why the hotels have not been opened or at least refurbished. Soi 8 is an ideal location, close to the beach and Central and is now a relatively quiet Soi. The hotels had decent sized rooms, pools and were good value back in the day. Looking at Agoda, it seems the last review is 2020, so basically Covid appears to have done for them. Soi 7 does look to be picking up, a good selection of bars, all it needs is a bit more footfall and customers to head down the Soi. It seems like only yesterday I was eating breakfast in the Pig and Whistle while watching BBC news, or a re run of Only Fools and Horses on the big TV screen.
  23. that's healthy eating. you've got both vegetables and salad with that. looks bloody delicious!.
  24. Well, bit of a topic resurrection almost but not quite 2 years later, and what do we have?. Two new bars on 7 next to each other, Zombies and Lupa, the A7 bar still at the top with a bar attached to it called hookup bar, all are under the ownership or connected to Nick Dean. I think Shooters is still going, but judging from the videos on YT recently , the bars are very quiet, even during high season.
  25. Wife wanted a salad and "summer" food yesterday for her and some friends, so I made a Larb Salmon, 2 salads with peach slices fried in honey, some grapes with Galbani Mozerella on spinach and a Basalmic vinegar and garlic dip for the sliced bread.
