  1. Done it a couple of times without ringing the bell. Just told the service staff I would buy them all a round of drinks, and not to ring the bell. I'm just not the type that wants the attention a bell ring brings to oneself.
  2. Incident happened four years ago. Very impressed how the student, on her first solo, and instructor handled the situation. Stuff of nightmares to hear the tower call you on your first solo telling you "Your right main is now missing from the airplane. It's fallen off the airplane."
  3. Bangkok Paradise Bar on 3rd Rd that opened in July didn't last long. Now owned by the Babylon group and has been renamed Babylon Paradise Lounge. Running the same promo on beer as their Babylon Club on Soi Bong Koch. Babylon is also hosting a Devil and Angel party with Malibu Club this Wednesday.
  4. Having a good laugh. I was sitting at my computer working on code when I caught motion out of the corner of my eye in the CCTV feed of our front gate. A puppy of about seven months old we took in off the street and into or home about a month ago had pulled the gate door open with his paw to let himself out. My lady was sitting in her garden oblivious to the puppy's great escape. I admire the dog's cleverness and ability to teach itself something my other two dogs have never been able to figure out how to do.
  5. Rumor had it Warehouse closed due to lack of a fire escape in the back. While that's true, and I'd hate to be caught on the upper floors seeing how far I'd have to jump to escape a fire, there doesn't appear to be any construction activity to indicate they're working on adding a fire escape. Across from Mayfairs on Buakhao a new bar is replacing what used to be Findig. Happy about that as I was kind of worried there weren't enough bars already. Same with weed shops. Can never have too many, right. New one on Soi Honey. Do like their clever names.
  6. At a guess I'd say the person or committee that put the text together has grown up with the idea that only thumbs are needed to type on a keyboard. Seems they've become so used to using abbreviations and skipping punctuation they've forgotten to how to use it in a professional setting. I know that was the case with my son when he started working for me. I was wondering where the spelling mistake was until I read this quote "Random capitalisation, American spelling and mistakes…".
  7. Appreciate it that you throw and easy one our way every once in awhile.
  8. Well done on the sale of the house. I hear you on all the points you made about selling to the home buying outfit as they were the same points that factored into my decision to sell below market to the tenant who had been renting my home. It's also nice to see the home's equity converted into a bump in the bank account balance. Good luck to you in your new location and hope to catch up with you when you make it to Pattaya.
  9. For those that might believe cryptocurrency is a good means to store wealth... In less than a week, Sam Bankman-Fried’s $16 billion fortune evaporated Sam Bankman-Fried woke up on Monday still a billionaire, even as his cryptocurrency empire was beginning to unravel. By Friday, his fortune was completely wiped out. Based on net worth calculations by Bloomberg, Bankman-Fried was worth about $16 billion at the start of the week. But as his crypto exchange, FTX, collapsed, the value of his assets was reduced to zero in what Bloomberg called “one of history’s greatest-ever destructions of wealth.” ...
  10. My bike has a mirror which I'm constantly checking. Not saying I would see a piece of rebar ready to take my head off, but I would probably see the crazy Thai coming up on my 6 and give him a wide berth if I thought he was going to pass too close.
  11. Thanks. Not sure if you saw my other posts in the reservoirs topic, but my ride yesterday I clocked 47km out to Huai Chak Nok Reservoir first and then on to Mabprachan. Took just under 3hrs for the ride. The route I usually ride for the reservoir update.
  12. Mabprachan Reservoir is looking equally as good. Like Huai Chak Nok Reservoir, the spillway on Mabprachan now has running water again. Can't ever remember seeing the old boat house flooded out. Looks like they're quarrying gravel, which when they're done will further increase the reservoir capacity. The side footpath on the north side is now completed and has several exercise stations along its length. Searching for coins in the kratongs. I remember not long ago the pumping station was sucking mud, no longer though. The new Dollhouse Darkside GC on the east side of the reservoir.
  13. Had a look this morning at the state of the reservoirs at the end of the rainy season. The news is good. First time in I can't remember how many years, maybe nine, that I've seen the reservoirs full. First set of pics showing Huai Chak Nok Reservoir. Looks like one of the channels they dug during the drought is now being used as a fish farm. The prevailing winds has pushed all the floating vegetation to the south end of the reservoir. Closer to the north side it looks like they strung a cable across to keep the vegetation from clogging the new park on the north end when the winds shift around. Something to behold, the water level is up to the spillway edge for the first time in donkey years. On the east side they now have an outlet pipe which I believe connects to water sources south of Pattaya. That gives the water management dept the option of pumping water into the reservoir when things get dire again. @thegrogmonster your neighbors are building quite the mansion next to your plot of land. Your plot is going to need some de-jungleization before you build your mansion. A sea of green on the east side. There is now a beautiful park on the north end of the reservoir which you can read about in this topic.
  14. Huai Chak Nok Reservoir has a new park and the beginnings of a new bike path on the north end. Looks great, IMHO, and looking forward to seeing the completion of the bike path and how far around the reservoir it will go.
  15. Something that I hadn't thought about before, but all provinces are named by their original main city. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Provinces_of_Thailand#Governance "The provinces are named by their original main city, which is not necessarily still the most populous city within the province today. Also, in several provinces the administration has been moved into a new building outside the city."
  16. Well the winner bought the ticket in California, so maybe... Consolation prize if you're related to the gas station owner who sold the winning ticket as he got $1 million. California ticket holder scoops $2bn jackpot in biggest lottery payout ever
  17. Walking the dogs this evening and could smell a good amount of smoke in the air. No surprised when I checked the AQI site it reported this.
  18. Churchills Munchies Ex pat food & Drinks
  19. The couple traveling the world in ambulance they bought on eBay
  20. I'm reading the Infinite Timeline series of books by Jeremy Robinson. He's big on mentioning the music the characters are listening to as they head off to do battle. This song got a mention in the latest book I'm reading, The Order.
  21. My experience with the online 90 day report system over the last year has been good. I may have lucked out, but every time I needed to use the system it's been up and running. They've also made several improvements to the system. The system requires you set up an account, but once created you'll get a 2 week reminder email your report is due. Log on to the system and bring up the form. Enter your name and nationality and click on the magnify glass icon to pre-fill the rest of the report with the last report's info. Submit the report and quite often you'll find it's been immediately approved. A couple of quibbles. - They include in the email my full name, nationality and passport no. Good info to have as a first step to identity theft. - The email doesn't contain a link to the online reporting system, but does have a useless link to a pdf with phone numbers and text, all in Thai. - The magnify glass icon is not very intuitive as to what it does, and has no "hover" text to explain it pre-fills the form. Wonder how many people end up manually filling in the form like I did the first time until someone directs you to the icon. - They could do away with the TM47 completely as the same info is on the TM30.
  22. No idea how this ended up on my YT recommend list.
