I received a care package from the library today and now have seven books to read. I am starting with this.

So that's what they have been doing there. Is the pool still there?

If you have time you should google the author, the book and the whole story, it is fascinating. I especially love the Thais renaming the river to keep the tourist dollars coming. You gotta love em.

For me the story behind the book 'The Bridge on the River Kwai' is far better than the movie. The author was French, Pierre Boulle. Their wasn't a River Kwai with a bridge over it until the Thais renamed the Mae Klong River the Khwae Yai River in the 1960's in response to all the tourists turning up to see the Bridge. And the author also wrote the book 'The Planet of the Apes'. Fascinating backstory.

Certainly provided us with a never ending stream of Hitler parodies and rants.

As for funny movies, 1941, with John Belushi and Dan Ackroyd. Great fight scene.

The Longest Day, possibly the greatest collection of post WW11 actors in one movie.

Kelly's Heroes, on TV today in Melbourne.

Sad news indeed, those bars have been there since before I first visited Pattaya 35 years ago. Some friends of mine had one of the front bars there for about the last 5 years, I wonder if they, like many other ladies, will return.

Given the situation at the moment with all the closures. If they are really intending to replace the drains in WS, surely now is the perfect time.

Just rereading this one in honour of tomorrow the 25th being ANZAC Day. Not my favorite author but still a good reminder of the senseless waste of life the First World War was.

Hoping to get a Thailand/Myanmar/Vietnam trip in from November into December. Not rushing out to book any flights though. Maybe in October when I know what restrictions are in place in those countries.

Just finished watching the online funeral service for my cousin Alan, (cancer, not covid). A bit impersonal but such are the times we live in.

One reason for the difference in figures is in the amount of testing that each country does. More advanced countries with better health systems are doing more testing to try and identify the amount of their citizens who are infected. The better to deal with the epidemic. Less developed countries don't have the capability to do this and therefore their figures really don't reflect the reality. A third group of countries, LOS being one, believe by ignoring the problem it will go away. These countries figures also can't be trusted. There are probably other reasons for the disparity in figures but IMO this is the main one.

I had just started to reread all the Bernie Gunther series and then all the libraries closed because of the Pangolins curse. Curses.

Didn't think much of Koh Chang. Been once, in no hurry to go again.

I was intending to take three trips overseas the rest of this year. My USA trip in April is cancelled. My Thai trip in July won't go ahead. At this stage l still intend taking a trip in Oct/Nov to Thailand, Vietnam, and Myanmar, but I won't be in any hurry to book any flights.

I laughed out loud when I read that article. If that Clown seriously thinks the Chinese Government, after all the effort to control it in their own country, will let there citizens travel to other countries who don't have it under control and then bring it back to China. Then he is an even bigger idiot than the rest of clowns who make up the circus that runs Thailand.
