  1. If this little wanna be dictator had his way, we would be masked up for the next 10 years. Rand Paul already proved what a lying little bastard this clown is and for him to singularly wield the power and influence that he has, is not good. Paul is looking at eliminating Fauci's job in the next Congressional session and have it replaced with a 3 person panel, in order to make any CDC rulings with respect to epidemiology, not to be at the behest of a single individual. As we can see from Fauci's example, the ego even at his advanced age, can cause one to think he is beyond his station in the government bureaucracy by being a one man judge and jury. Let's hope Paul's legislation is successful.
  2. What I liked about TQ was the 4 Happy Hours each day where a Carlsburg was 65 baht (a long time ago...mid to late 90's) and as others mentioned, a great way to cool down in the afternoon heat. All those years and I never went at night, was always an afternoon guy, but never thought less of the ladies as to me, except for a few, they all looked to be at least a 6 in the face and body but most I rated higher. I also liked the DJ and would always throw a tip his way to play some live Stones or other musical favorite. What was a negative for me was the daytime manager and, unlike a Phil or Larry, would spend all their time talking to his buddies, who for the most part all were Jesters and ignore all the other patrons. Never would mingle around and shake hands, ask how you were doing and if everything was ok. A small welcoming gesture can go a long way to make a customer feel appreciated, as both Phil and Larry have always done for me when I came by. Having said that, whenever my next return trip is, I'll stop in for a beer or two. But only during Happy Hour.
  3. Trial and error, mate. Even those big name tv chefs burned the bouillabaisse once or twice. Besides, that dish looked plenty tasty to me!
  4. Just finished up my Easter dinner. Grilled Atlantic salmon seasoned with lemon pepper, a bit of butter and lime juice, then loosely wrapped in foil and about 8 minutes per side. Indian rice seasoned with an East African pilau, mixed with corn, peas and canned shrimp. And some mushrooms sauteed in olive oil and butter, and seasoned with a bit of garlic salt. And all accompanied by a couple cold bottles of Pacifico, a very tasty Mexican beer. Happy Easter to you all.
  5. About to get the coals ready and take about a 2 and a half pound (a bit more than 1 kilo I think) Atlantic salmon fillet and cut it into 6 sections, season with lemon pepper, butter and a squeeze of lime juice, wrap loosely in foil, then on the grill for 6-8 minutes a side. Will go about completing this grueling task with a couple bottles of Pacifico in hand (Mexican beer). Happy Easter y'all!
  6. Just finished reading Gabriel Garcia Marquez' "Memories of My Melancholy Whores", about a 90 year old man who falls in love with a 14 year old prostitute at the local brothel in town. Not exactly what you might think, it was a very eloquently told story. Next up is a book I first read over a decade ago, "Post Office", by Charles Bukowski, maybe the single funniest novel I've ever read. As a retired postal worker of over 30 years, I could relate. Bukowski wrote this in 1971, while employed as a postal worker in Los Angeles, Calif and what he wrote back then about the idiocy of postal management, in many cases, was just as true for me 50 years later. And still funny as hell the second time as I had tears of laughter streaming down my face while reading the opening couple of chapters in bed.
  7. This is more like it. I've listened to this guy's cranial nerve exam video more times than I can count, as have others with over a couple million views. You can near the crinkling noises of his heavily starched shirt as he moves his arms around, all in order to provide a soothing sound. At just under 28 minutes, I just place my phone on the bed, adjust the volume a bit, and before I know it, I'm out.
  8. If having trouble getting to sleep, try an ASMR video on YT on your phone. I've been doing that off and on for the last 5 years, and TBH, if I click on a 35-40 minute long video by a certain AMSR artist such as a guy who goes by his handle, "Articulate Design", just listening to his soothing voice puts me out before the video is finished. After 30 plus years working the swing shift, 3-11:30 pm, and routinely not getting to bed until 2:30-3 am, it really helps. Give it a try and see what you think. An Aussie bloke is another one who speaks in a soft, soothing whisper and goes by the handle, MassageASMR, and role plays as Dr Dimitri, will put you to sleep while giving you a cranial nerve exam. Just like a baby. Trust me.
  9. I've looked at Singapore Airlines from California and in economy, it states a 34" seat pitch, which is about as much leg room as you could ever hope for, especially when American carriers are pretty much 31" seat pitch, so those extra 3 inches really make a difference! Ah yes, I can hear the jokes now. But what would cause me to question booking with them is that I don't care how comfy the seats are, that flight for me is over 17 HOURS! And then the 2 and a half hour connecting flight to BKK. Longest I ever flew was 15 hours from Dubai to SF in 2020 and that was about my limit. By 13 hours, I was starting to get antsy to get off that sucker.
  10. Favorite bar Pattaya......The Shamrock Bar, located directly across from the old Penthouse Hotel and just a few doors down from The Classroom. Probably a good 50% of my holiday drinking scratch when in Pattaya has gone into the till at this bar. Terry, the owner, has been around since 1985, and at nearly 80 years old, still going strong. A great spot for meeting up with fellow travelers and expats. The Sunday drinking sessions I've had there have been legendary. Favorite bar Kenya......Cheers, located on the Mombasa-Malindi highway, a few hundred yards in from the ocean. A 24 hour place, been converted by the new owner to have a stage for live bands and other events. Gorgeous staff who are willing to meet you either after their shift or on their day off. The various independent contractors gather to seek out a potential companion and aren't shy about making the first move, but they do so in such a lady-like manner, you can't help but be taken in with their charms. The bottles of Tusker, served in a 500 ml sized bottle, were 300 shillings on my last visit, roughly $2.75, the most expensive priced beers I usually get. Most other pubs are closer to 220-240 shillings. Favorite bar New Orleans......The Tropical Isle on Bourbon St, in the heart of the French Quarter, this place is a gem with live blues everyday by local musicians. Always a enthusiastic staff, a great mix of tourists and they serve a few tropical tasting drinks, such as their signature drink, the Hand Grenade or another called the Horny Gator, guaranteed to knock your d**k in the dirt if you're not careful. Of all the bars on Bourbon St, this has always been a regular stop before venturing off to the bars that line the side streets with cheaper prices, and where the locals go. Great idea for a thread, Glass!
  11. The Lucky Dog in the French Quarter in New Orleans, the best hot dog I've ever had. Steamed on a warm bun, I would get some mustard, ketchup, chili, sweet relish and a dog that was as long as the bun that held it. It was the ideal meal, not to mention cheap, as a way to fill your gut to soak up a hefty night of drinking. The carts start coming around about 7 pm and setting up on every other street corner intersection along Bourbon St, and around 11 pm, I would make my way to the nearest cart for sustenance to keep me going till 3-4 am. When it comes to meat in tube form, nothing beats a Lucky Dog.
  12. Great flick, have seen it a couple times. Driven on some of those roads and been to some of the places featured in the movie. Frances McDormand is among the best actresses in film. Every bit the equal of Meryl Streep.
  13. Each year the Academy awards an honorary Oscar to an actor who has had a long, distinguished career, has performed in some memorable movies and roles, and this year the recipient was Samuel L. Jackson. Talk about being overlooked! This was done on Friday night, and wasn't televised, and though I didn't watch the live Sunday show, I would have to assume that Jackson's Oscar speech would be edited in at some point so he could be recognized by the audience. This is a guy who has been in the movies that have had the greatest monetary box office receipts, taken as a whole, some $27 BILLION in gross ticket sales, in the history of the art form, and he can't even have his moment on the live broadcast. And he was given it to by Denzel Washington, one of the truly cinematic greats over the last 40 years. This should have been done during the actual broadcast and not relegated to a Friday night event that wasn't televised. To me, that makes twice that Jackson was ripped off. On this honorary Oscar ceremony and especially back in 1994 when he lost out on Best Supporting Actor for his legendary role in "Pulp Fiction". His incredible performance of the "Ezekiel" speech alone should have won it for him right there.
  14. The Oscar's have been a ratings disaster for the last several years thanks to all the "woke" Hollywood stars using the platform to spew their idiocy. People have grown tired of being lectured to. They just simply wanted to watch the show to see who wins. Having this moment happen between Will Smith and Chris Rock, a case of "black on black" crime one wit wrote online, will be the only thing talked about in the aftermath and all the winning performances will be overshadowed and forgotten. Smith should have just rolled with it, Rock's joke was pretty funny but tame. Having a Jerry Springer moment can almost be seen as a stunt to generate interest, but Smith's yelling out to Rock on stage after his love tap, clearly being heard throughout the venue by all in attendance, looks like it was very real. Gonna be some serious damage control being done in the next few days by the publicists and I think Rock just got a boost with this incident and now has new material to add a good 20 minutes to his stand up.
  15. You can even see the near reverence that Buzzin had for BJ, almost like a kid getting to meet his childhood sports hero. Unlike so many other interviews on his channel with other bar owners and the like, he allowed BJ to reply to his questions uninterrupted and just soak up his anecdotes and history as he told of the Pattaya he knew from a half century ago. I sincerely hope that Buzzin revisits BJ in the future, maybe in 6 months or so, and let him share more great stories and observations. To me, in the time I've been aware of his YT channel, this 2 part BJ interview was his finest hour. And from the number of views and replies it has generated in such a short time, it definitely hit a bulls eye with his viewers. I have an old pic taken of BJ and myself from his Soi BJ days, probably from around 1997. If I can find it among all my Kodak photo envelopes filled with Pattaya memories from the 90's, I'll see about posting it here.
  16. I first met BJ about 24-25 years ago on maybe my 2nd or 3rd trip to Pattaya when he had his bar on WS, on the corner where Soi BJ was named for him. Great guy, very low key personality. I spoke to him after he gave up the WS bar and when I was staying at his guest house up on Beach Road and Soi 1 or 2, and he said after 25 years, he had enough and was glad to be out of there. When his current hotel, the BJ Holiday Lodge was built, he had sea view rooms on the upper floors until the lot next door was bought and a new hotel was built, thereby blocking the view BJ's guest had. What a great guy, and still with his ever present towel draped over his shoulder. A true Pattaya legend and institution who remains a living link to Pattaya's long gone past.

Raiders will look to extend Carr, he's in the last year of his $125 million deal that made him the highest paid in the game for about 3 weeks. He'll probably get in the $40 million range, per year. Saw that Maxx Crosby, their stud defensive end, was lookimg at an extension of over $20 a year. In a couple years, the Chargers qb will join them at $35 a year at least. Jackson in Baltimore and Murray in Arizona both want $40 plus as well. Good Gawd....in this day and age, what would Montana, Fouts, Staubach, Stabler, Bradshaw, etc.... have made in today's game had they played now?
  18. Most of that seasoned fatty juice that cooked off the chicken at the bottom of the baking pan was spooned into the bowl of rice once that was done in my rice cooker. Yes, I do that with rice or pasta when any meat dish is baking, especially chicken. The flavor with all the seasonings is pretty savory and really adds to taste.
  19. Dusseldorf, the next big city stop on the train was my favorite city to spend a weekend. Tons of clubs, bars, restaurants in the old town along the Rhein River. But just a block or so inland of the train station, was their version of Nurnburg's Wall, a red light district about a block long, only pedestrian traffic, and the ladies would both hang outside along the wall in the midst of negotions or in the open window sills, the neon of the red lamps inside the room illuminating a reddish glow onto the street. I'd love to return one day for a 3 or 4 day visit. Some great memories for me there back when I was 20, 21 years old.
  20. Doctor told me last week during my annual check up that I should incorporate more chicken and fish in my diet and less beef. While I like a good steak as much as anyone, she didn't have to twist my arm. Seasoned boneless thighs baked with a brushing of a combo of Sweet Baby Rays BBQ Sauce and Kikoman's Teriyaki Glaze for the final 15 minutes in the oven. Rice and sauteed broccoli in olive oil to go along with it. Tasty eats for the next few days.
  21. Uh.......ok. You want to keep wearing a face diaper for the rest of your life, then that's YOUR choice. Your "under the bus" nonsense in referencing those that make THEIR choice not to, is just plain ignorant.
  22. What an incredible thread! The artifacts from that time, the stories, the newspaper clippings. When I saw the newspaper photo of Koln (Cologne), I was reminded that almost exactly 40 years after that photo was taken, as a young PFC, I was standing in the square right in front of that magnificent cathedral for New Years Eve, 1984. What transpired then, a celebration of the New Year, with joyous, and drunk, people from not only Germany, but from all over the world, stood in sharp contrast to that photo in the paper. And remembering that now in 2022, almost the same amount of time has passed since I stood there. The blink of an eye. You've got yourself some priceless historical heirlooms from WW II, that serve as a reminder of an earlier age, about as foreign to most people living today as I assume the Civil War was to those young people living then. They need to be preserved for future generations yet to be born to know what happened then and for those who served and fought, and died, with gallantry and honor. A very appreciative thank you for sharing an important part of your families history, and of your father's heroism.
  23. Yep....and more restrictions, even in my "blue" state, being eliminated. Has been very nice to walk into a restaurant without a mask or a bookstore and browse for a classic work from Charles Bukowski or Gabriel Garcia Marquez, all the while showing off my handsome mug to all staff and fellow shoppers. Hey...10,000 Thai girls can't all be wrong, could they? Just been rolling with it for years, not going to stop now. And ain't it curious, our resident Dr. Doom, aka Fauci, has been noticeably absent from the airwaves over the last week or 10 days, and hasn't been spewing out his clap trap for all the "Nervous Nelly's" to hear and keep them cowering in the corner, afraid of their own shadow. Hmm...I wonder....has there been any story in the news lately that has grabbed the attention of the media, particularly the US media, that has resulted in the Good Doctor Fauci being relegated to page A-24 in the headline section of the paper where few eyeballs are paying attention to him? Kinda funny how that works.
