  5. I had a black lab (ish) named Daisy back when I was living in Northwest Florida. She was a great, smart dog. My job sent me all around the country and when I got a one week job about four hours from the house, I thought about taking her with me. I had been to the small town of Demopolis, Alabama several times and I had a regular motel that I stayed in. I called and they were fine with the dog, so Sunday afternoon we loaded up and hit the road. Around dark, we got checked in and Daisy got her walk. As I was carrying our stuff into the room, the bottom of the dog food bag opened up and spilled onto the floor. I found a container and got down on my knees and started raking it into a pile. Daisy came over and I thought she was going to eat some of her food, but no. She started helping me by using her snout to push some of the spilled kibbles into the pile I was making. I guess the taste of the road life she got was too much. The next trip sent me to Detroit and she had to stay at the house. Shortly after I left, she jumped the fence, maybe headed for that motel in Demopolis where she thought I might be.

  7. It would be impossible not to. But whatever you do, don’t accuse Buzz Aldrin of lying about going to the moon..
  8. Neil Armstrong; the first man to walk on the moon, earned a little over $27,000 a year in 1969. Breaking that salary down to an hourly rate means he was paid around $33 for his walk on the moon. The test pilot that flew the first C-17 from Long Beach to Edwards Air Force Base in 1991 received a $60,000 bonus, in addition to his regular salary.

  14. Yeah, looking at the letters behind our heads, I think you’re right.
  15. Right before COVID, I ate at Bronx Pizza when it was near Kiss on Second Road and went back to to my room on Soi Lengkee. I get there and look at Facebook. One of my old Marine Corps buddy posted that he was in Thailand getting ready to eat. I messaged him and found out he was in Bronx Pizza, so I headed back to meet him there. I get there and see him in the same seat where I had just ate. The last time I saw him was 1985. Over thirty years later and we were basically back to back customers. If not for Facebook, we would have never known. ‘This photo is from later that night, I think in Pandora’s in LKM. My buddy is the Marine wearing glasses.
  16. This reminds of the vibrating tampon that was invented so a woman could be at her best even when she was at her worst.
  17. I took Thai language course at Wat Mongkolratanara in Berkeley, California for about a year. But, a combination of 84 hour work weeks, my already poor study habits and the teacher that tried to teach us to read Thai as we were learning to speak it all led to my failure. I can do the basics, like count to ten but I can’t tell you what seven is unless I count up from one. I have a bootleg dvd of Rosetta Stone; somewhere, with Thai on it. I liked it and it seemed like it helped, but back to m study habits. The app called Drops is available in Thai and I think it would be a good one for a free download to get a head start before your class starts.
  18. It looks like the window seals were compromised from the heat. The cabin windows are three layers of stretched acrylic. Cockpit windows are the same with a pane of hydrophobic coated glass on the outside.
  19. On my bike route, these guys aren’t normally here. Did the farmers rent the lot to feed the herd or was the herd rented to clear the lot? When I was working in the refinery, off in the distance I saw a herd and it looked like a cowboy on a horse was tending them. I got closer and saw it was goats and the cowboy was riding a bicycle. 555
  20. According to one analysis of U.S. government data, EV fires appear to occur less frequently than ICE vehicles, with 25.1 fires for every 100,000 vehicles sold compared to 1,529 fires for ICE vehicles. (Hybrids, interestingly, appear to catch fire most frequently, perhaps a result of the battery pack being adjacent to a combustion engine.) Data from the Swedish government and a major EV vendor appears to support this general assessment.
