  1. I have done similar, but did a weekend to Bangkok after leaving work on a Friday afternoon (after an early), and returning to work Monday, but on a late shift from 2pm. My shift pattern tended to be finishing on an early, and returning to work on a late. My best ever was a day trip to Washington and my flight out of London was 2 hours late, spent about 5 hours in the city. The airport was also not too close to the centre of the city. Did decide it was a bit crazy and didn't attempt that again.
  2. Yes, on large commercial aircraft, there is a need for 2 megaphones, which makes sense to ensure commands are heard by all. Haven't looked at A380s, but one might assume that 4 megaphones are needed, Thankfully, very little of the required equipment is ever needed, and I am sure many of us avoid listening to what the crew have to say, but every once in a million flights the crew need to know what equipment they have on board, and more importantly how to use it. The JAL crew did their job to perfection and many lives are grateful for that.
  3. I may be wrong, but it looks like the coast guard plane was lined up on the runway for over 2 minutes before the collision. Whether the coast guard plane had made an error in lining up, whether guide lights were out etc., it still is sad that the control tower were not aware that a plane had encroached on to the active runway.
  4. Airlines, must have megaphones on their planes, in case of an emergency where the use of them is beneficial to direct passengers in emergency situations and/or in case of breakdown of other communicating systems. It is just part of the many items of emergency and medical equipment that aircraft must carry as required by aviation law. I did see a video of some passengers, who had evacuated from the JAL plane, who were fully dressed in coats, many with their hand baggage. Now, it is likely that, due the short flight, many would not have taken off outer clothing. The fact that some had hand luggage does make me think it was quite an orderly evacuation, that did see many have time to reach up and take their hand luggage, despite the fact that they should have been instructed not to take any items. I suppose that bit could be down to human nature but thankfully everybody got off.
  5. Yes, we were also on the comedy channel for a while but luckily we got promoted back to the sports channel lol
  6. Yes, when I look on my HDPrime streaming app, I don't look on the Sports section anymore for Spurs, their games are now always in the comedy section on Sky lol
  7. From that video, you can see the coast guard plane clearly turn on to the active runway. It either had authority to line up and was awaiting clearance to roll or turned on to the runway to lineup without clearance in error. Speculation of actual facts, of course, but very sad as to the outcome.
  8. Just realised my life is meaningless, just received a shock headline from the Daily Mail: EXCLUSIVESam Smith SPLITS from fashion designer boyfriend Christian Cowan after a year and is spotted back on celebrity dating app Raya Oh, I need to get a smack in the face, a kick in the groin or just a flight to Thailand. Don't they know I would rather have a boil on my bum, than being advised any fcking details about they/them. What has happened to reporting details of important issues.
  9. Just received a nice package from my mate, a jar of D & L (Devos and Lemmens) mayonnaise. Friend was visiting his family in Antwerp, Belgium, over Christmas and brought me a jar of my favourite mayonnaise, goes so well on my chips. Always loved this brand, ever since having a cone of frites in Antwerp back in the mid 90s.
  10. At my daughter's school, the headmistress advises that videos, photos can be taken during any concerts, events etc., but not to upload them to social media, use only for personal use. Same should apply to Vloggers, no law against filming (in many places) but the moment it is uploaded to social media, it may be restricted because consent has not been sort. We have probably all done it, but is it lawful, especially if later somebody complains. I even think that GDPR laws allow EU citizens when in another country to expect privacy from being filmed if requiring privacy. There are even Vlogger sites that specifically cover the multitude of pitfalls that Vlogging brings with it. The main thing for me is, if somebody does not wish their image to be recorded, even in a public place, then commonsense says you should respect that privacy view and desist from carrying on filming against someone's will. I once had a guy in a bar in LK Metro try to take a photo of my wife, (just happened to look fabulous) the guy believed he had the right to put a camera in my wife's face until I told him not to, the guy nearly had the camera taken from his hands, but eventually a friend of his stopped him. My wife didn't really want her photo taken and then probably shown to the idiots friends at home as a conquest on his holidays. These guys who film may also be seeking financial reward from their video recordings which again should see authorisation for recording being gained. Not everybody wants to have their image posted on a forum, YouTube or other media channel. I think a lot of common sense can be used when videoing people as it is unlikely that anybody will see your video later, but if in a sensitive area, like a bar area, I doubt those you are filming want their mugshot on social media. It is a minefield out there but being smart when filming is not something some of these idiots are known for.
  11. There's an interesting thread on an Angeles based forum, relating to a Vlogger who got 'assaulted' by a Korean manager. It appears the Vlogger was walking down the middle of Fields (main bar area), panning right and left but getting everyone in view and a Korean manager, at the door of his bar, asked the guy to respect privacy and stop filming. Well, Vlogger believed his rights meant he could keep filming, which he did, protesting his rights, which ensured a physical reaction. Maybe not same, but for me, phones and, perceived rights of their owners, can be very intrusive.
  12. Haven't really drunk much over Christmas and New Year as I still have 3 beers out of the 10 I had. My favourite 4 beers are as below; the first, I have just opened. Lovely The Nut Brown is a stunning tasting beer, will be buying more from the Felin Foel brewery soon.
  13. Wish it was Thailand but my next trip is likely to be Prague in May. Will go with two good mates to celebrate knowing each other for 50 years, we met at work with BEA (British European Airlines) in 1974, I started 1973.
  14. That has got to be a really popular band, not seen it like that except on rare occasions when I lived there. Usually a sponsored night where only Chang or Leo can be sold. I have seen times when Thais have been kicked out for bringing their own booze in, the owner and his cronies like a walk around to check what is being consumed. Edit Just seen your next post, Carabao are big in Thailand. Named after the Philippine name for 'buffalo' been going for over 40 years. Massive in Thailand. 3 of the band studied in Philippines hence the name.
  15. Back in 1980 a passenger came up to my desk in Terminal Two and asked me to endorse his ticket to travel on Swissair to Zurich. He was early to the airport and decided that he could catch the earlier Swissair flight instead of his later BA flight. I informed him that he could not go earlier as his ticket was an APEX type, which did not allow changes. He remonstrated with me but got no where. He then decided to show his displeasure by ripping the ticket to shreds. He then goes to terminal one to check in but got refused due to the ticket being defaced (legal term for ripped up ticket). He then came back to me, thinking I could help as I had seen his ticket. Well the answer was no, so he ended up having to buy a completely new ticket one way (more than his APEX ticket return) at the Swissair desk. He was not a happy man. Few more stories to tell later.
  16. Yes, I do indeed, but got a bit sidetracked by your post of a Craft Ale location further away.
  17. Oh, I asked where you were drinking Porter so looks like you may be around 94/88 area,
  18. Looks great, where is this establishment?, needs a visit if I haven't been there before.
  19. Felt it was a place that had a regular clientele, the sort who could make it their first and last bar of the night, the type who could chat, as the music wasn't so loud. It obviously did food, and it was a great drinking place (drinks station surrounded by seating), so it seemed more of a social meeting place rather than a full on go go. The girls dancing almost seemed an afterthought, but were enough to keep some entertained and coming back. As I said it was a place I could go with my lady; I think also, Mr Egg was working there when I was visiting, so did occasionally have a chat at the bar. Think I did pop in solo occasionally but never felt pushed by the ladies, which is a total plus for me. It is a reason I rarely pop into a go go in Patpong, when in Bangkok, impossible to sit, drink and watch without company arriving next to you the minute you sit down.
  20. The reason, I could take the wife, no sexy shows except for coyote dancers (I think that's what you call them). Wife felt comfortable as nothing was going on, no nude dancers, no seedy guys playing with girls, seemed well run with professional staff attending. Mamasans chatted to us regularly. Maybe some would disagree with what I have said but I can only go by what I saw.
  21. Same with me, I was on a different statin when first prescribed, I just could not function well in the morning, also had stomach upsets and felt down. I was taken off statins for a while and when they recommended it was time to have another try, they prescribed 10mg of Atorvastatin. I have had no problems since and my daily trips to the loo are happy ones.
  22. Never want to buy a Renault again. Bought a Renault 5 GTL in late 70s, broke down on me numerous times including the first week I had it from new. Even the engine gave up after a few years, terrible car. Was also unfortunate to be given a Renault Captur by Alamo on a rental, was not impressed. Tinny and poor options, really didn't enjoy the ride. Think Red Bull gave up on Renault as an engine supplier as well, if I am not mistaken.
  23. I first visited the bar by luck, just was passing by on way to Walking Street. Never knew about a forum attached, just was an OK place to go and feel comfortable with my wife. I came back a few times because, again, it was a place that I could go with the wife. Never felt it was a full on go go bar, just a good place to drink and listen to good music. Seemed to be well run and I never felt insecure for me when with the wife which is not the case with some establishments.
  24. Even though you have been aware for some time that this day was coming, it must be extremely upsetting for you and I am so sorry for your loss. It is obvious you had a strong bond with your sister, and I hope that you can cope better by remembering all the good times you had together and honouring her by being strong and determined in your own life going forward. Sad news to hear mate.
