Renewing A Thai Driving Licence - a few questions.
Horizondave replied to Horizondave's topic in On the road
Yes, I was rather shocked, but took an advance visit to Hua Hin immigration and posed that question. Was told no problem on a 30 day exempt visa. Being free was also a bonus. I had previously been told by an agent on Soi 94 that I needed a Non O visa and to have residence in Hua Hin. Immigration even advised me that staying in hotel for 9 days was also acceptable. I was a happy boy. -
Renewing A Thai Driving Licence - a few questions.
Horizondave replied to Horizondave's topic in On the road
Yes, I did benefit from getting my licence in September 2023, it ran out in July 2023 (my birthday). I thought they were going to just give me 5 years from that July, but they gave me new licences valid from September 2023 plus 5 years from this July (2024), so runs out in July 2029. Almost 6 years validity. Not bad for a non resident on a 30 day exempt visa and with residence at Initial Condo Hotel, staying only 9 nights in the country. -
Now that is a breakfast. Have to say I have never been disappointed with their breakfasts when staying at Heathrow. Went to one in Merthyr Tydfil and it was an order to table but those at Heathrow are 'help yourself' buffets and that makes them amazing value.

Glad you got it all sorted. The differences for me in Hua Hin (Pranburi) was that I watched the video at the centre (55 mins), spent 5 mins doing the practical inhouse tests. I also got 2 resident certificates (1 for bike, 1 for car) free of charge. That saved a bit of money, although had to wait 48 hours to pick up. Presume you also got 5 years from your next birthday?. -
May try that next time (likely summer '25) but Kataleya will be 10 by then. Must admit I will probably be kissing the floor that I am in Thailand, so if we don't get ushered (even if after asking), I will still have a smile on my face. I am sure you are really happy to be in the LOS, well envious....

Cargo Ship Crashes into Baltimore (US) Bridge
Horizondave replied to lazarus's topic in Off Topic Chat
Very tragic event but probably going to cause mayhem with the need for many to get to work. Looking at a map of Baltimore, it does look like that bridge was a saviour for many to get about; looks like detours for many during rush hour and basic traffic chaos for months, if not longer. -

If it does, it will give you another photo opportunity lol -
Glad you arrived safely. Got to admit that on all the occasions I have traveled through immigration, with Kataleya, not once have I been ushered through Fast Track. Possibly I have arrived and the immigration area hasn't been too busy and just went with the flow. Can't remember it being really busy at any time but it seems you get ushered at all times, you are not getting your little one to kick ankles are you?

I bet you won't be using that ferry company again then lol

It was so rich, I cold only get through a small slice. Both Kataleya and Porn want me to make another for her birthday but I am under strict instructions to make the biscuit and butter base thicker. I would probably prefer a slightly less heart trembling cheesecake but they loved the Millionaire's version.

Kataleya wanted me to make a cheesecake so I had a first time go. It is a white chocolate millionaire's cheesecake; all I know is, it is bloody rich with fat and sugar, not a good heart partner.

Looks good value for the price; never eaten there as I usually eat at Irish Clock or the Pannarai Hotel across the road.
-
The school holidays are my curse, as to travel any other time requires my wife to take time off for me. There will come a time when Kataleya can let herself in/out of the house and mummy will be back later, but that time is a few years away (she is only 9 next Sunday).

Blimey, Bobby's Arms, there's a bar from my nostalgic past. Had many a good night around that area. -
I agree, especially if it starts to happen on flights to Bangkok lol

Supposedly Chelsea can stop the possible Premier League Sanctions by selling certain players, according to media reports. Still sounds a bit fishy myself but June 30 deadline is an important date in this saga. https://www.msn.com/en-gb/sport/other/chelsea-told-to-sell-three-players-for-110m-to-avoid-ffp-punishment/ar-BB1kiOnY Still believe the Premier League will investigate further as so much money has been spent and not enough coming in.

Mate sent me a picture of his afternoon drink today at the Centara Hotel, Hua Hin. I am envious, but also surprised that he paid only 115 baht for a small beer inclusive of ++. It was happy hour between 4-5.30 pm. Now I know you can get it cheaper, but a drink at a beautiful hotel like the Centara for that price is well worth the visit. He spent a relaxing 70 minutes at the hotel, they even offer up decent snacks to accompany the beer, no salted peanut crap. Pretty nice view as well. -
Not sure the big clubs are protected, I think those cases are just ongoing. Don't deny they probably have top quality lawyers pushing the times frames but the Premier League haven't got around to them yet. In fact the sanctions for Chelsea and Man City could be far worse than has been handed to Everton and Notts Forest. I think it is a case of 'watch this space' The situation with Chelsea and Manchester City is different. As of now, neither Chelsea nor Manchester City have been charged by the Premier League for any financial violations. UEFA previously fined Chelsea for a breach, but the Premier League operates under different rules. The investigation into City’s numerous charges is still ongoing, and the outcome remains unknown. Due to the complexity and scale of City’s case, it may take some time to reach a conclusion

Finally got in, received an email with a new password. A little surprised but happy to be back online, password also changed. -
Had to walk in to Neath to get some pain killers. Didn't want to drink but I got a notification that, Greene King Dark Tide was on pump in the 'Spoon'. Works a bit like a painkiller after 2 pints.

Crazy here in UK. When I saw all the advertising last year, I went to my doctor to get the vaccine; reception tell me that I could have it if I was turning 65, but, as I was now 68, I had to wait until I was 70. So anybody 66/67/68 or 69 can't have the vaccine but a 65 year old can, I really don't understand that. I can still have the jab but that will still be after I turn 70. Suffering today, constant pain across my right chest and back, like a burning sensation. It is bad but I am getting used to it and make myself comfortable, no exercise for a while. When my wife was putting the cream on my rash it was really painful even though she was being really gentle, it's not a nice thing to suffer from. It is the balance issue that has got me worried more, nearly fallen over numerous times over last 2 days. Weird, just can't stay on my pins. Just a symptom of shingles that your balance can be affected. Just have to weather the storm and hope it isn't a long bout. -

I also suffer from Psoriasis plus some contributing factors for being prone to Shingles such as being over 60, being stressed, having an injury and being on statins. This all started when I believe I may have damaged a muscle at the gym a couple of weeks ago, I am also over 60, on statins and presently pretty stressed. Just rest and hope the pain doesn't get worse. As it is a virus I can only take pain killers to ward off the pain although rest and a good diet will help. -

Tried to get the shingles vaccine when the NHS started putting advertising out. Thing is, you can get it when you turn 65, but if 66 and above you have to wait until you are 70. Crazy system which has probably seen me get it when a vaccine would have prevented it. Can't get my head around that one. I have read many pages on Google today and it appears many countries offering the jab were saying 'get it from 50 years'. Pretty bad pain in my chest presently, doc says it may get worse before it gets better. Just got to rest. Got Zovirax to put on 5 times a day but with Kataleya at school and Porn doing double shifts all week that won't happen as it is all across the right side of my back.
