  1. Now about to attempt to balance the Carbs on a Mark 1 Escort RS2000 (Twin Weber 40 DCOE for anyone wanting to know). Been doing it so long I can actually do it by ear, but will use my trusty Gunsons Carb Balancer and a colourtune just in case, as it's an expensive thing to get wrong if it goes up in flames and I often get it a smidgen out anyway. After that I intend to relax with a couple of bottles of Peroni beer and some rather explicit pornography.
  2. Oddly enough he wasn't, but he did have an unhealthy interest in teenage boys. currently resides in the nonce's wing at HMP Chelmsford apparently.
  3. No mate I'm not on FB. I was banned because when I did join several years ago, 3 Thai girls added me as friends, and when my Mrs went onto my page, she claims it said "relationship status: Single", I pleaded ignorance but as a direct result I had my arse kicked. I'll check it out though, I may or may not have another FB account in a different name... I'm currently going through our old Oman slides with my Dad, if I find any worth posting I'll put them up 🙂
  4. Odd that you mention lederhosen. A few years ago we had a homosexual gentleman at work who asked if I would pose for him while wearing some. He offered me a packet of Bonbons by way of compensation. I declined of course. Had he offered me Werthers Originals it would have been another matter entirely.
  5. I entered a competition once, and was asked to join the "orderleey orderleey orderleeyhe queue..."
  6. 21 years together for us. She was 45 kg when I met her, is down to 38kg now but getting the weight back on. She's brilliant, supportive and generous, works hard and is a great mother. I really hit pay dirt when I met her. Annoying habits (hers): Stays on the toilet reading the paper for ages. keeps slipping the clutch on her car when changing up. snores. Has a habit of taking a bite out of something like a cake or pie, then just leaving it if she doesn't like it. Keeps pigs heads in the fridge. Otherwise, no complaints lol.
  7. "pull your tongue out of my arsehole" Never, ever, had a bird say that to me...😄😄😄 The guy who strangles "liam" at the end of the scene is the one found dead in Death Valley a few of years ago.
  8. For all the balls ups along the way, it's nice to see we've got some good news at last!.
  9. Good choice. W124 a solid, reliable and go on forever. They've got a bit of a cult following here in the UK, especially the diesels because seeing 300K miles plus out of them is pretty common.
  10. Snatch. Showing it's age now though. One of the actors, who also starred in Harry Potter met a tragic end in Death Valley. https://hollywoodlife.com/2014/07/12/dave-legeno-harry-potter-actor-dies-found-dead-in-desert/
  11. Would you change to an EV or hybrid Lazarus?. How are the deals working out in the US? Be interested to know as a comparison. A brand new BMWi3 S 5dr Auto here in the UK is £36925 without options, however there is a dealer discount available apparently, plus they can be had for a couple of K cheaper I know that California has always been super restrictive on emission controls, I might be wrong but back in the 80's weren't some of the cars from California putting out less power than one from say, Michigan?. Diesels in the UK are still popular, and for a secondhand option they offer good value as some people are keen to get rid of them. Mercedes seem to be hit pretty badly with depreciation on their models, so there's a few bargains to be had.
  12. It was mentioned in the story about the sunken ship just off Qurum beach down from Seeb, I think it was carrying Marble when it sank, and was a popular diving spot and was also good for fishing. We would pull a workboat out and do low speed trolling, then HM purchased a couple of Hateras fishing boats and we used them when no one was watching. they were epic bits of kit. Did you ever visit the Inter Continental hotel further down?. It had a nightclub and a disco , along with themed food nights. it was a great venue, and wasn't that expensive for booze either.
  13. There's a school of thought that the UK and Eu Car market is at a turning point. Diesels (and high CO petrol cars) , in the opinion of many, have had their day and will be priced off the road in due course (increased Congestion charge in London to begin with) https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/ultra-low-emission-zone/ulez-expansion There was also the possible introduction of a diesel ban in Bristol (now cancelled) but the seeds have been sown. We're all now being encouraged to go electric or hybrid - sound familiar? It should, back when the last Labour Govt were in power, they encouraged the use of Diesels by the introduction of new vehicle taxation laws: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-41985715 Are we seeing History repeating though? - Electric and Hybrid cars are not as clean as some may think, the materials used in manufacture are horrifically damaging to the areas they are mined from, and as expected, come from poor 3rd world exploited Countries such as Congo. I think that anyone driving their brand new EV and feeling happy about saving the planet may conveniently forget that little fact though. Also, generating electricity produces carbon, and while it's not an entirely clean process, it's not entirely unpolluting either. In the UK today, financing and borrowing money has never been cheaper. I recently almost purchased a brand new BMW , along with huge dealer discounts and from the bank an interest rate of 2.4% if I wanted to avail of it. Had I opted for an electric car from different manufacturers such as Fiat, it becomes an attractive proposition. They're falling over themselves to get you to finance or PCP / lease, factoring in the money you will save in the long term by choosing EV / Hybrid. Are the buying public making a rod for their own back though?. Certainly anyone living in the congestion zone in London can save up to £17.50 per day depending upon their choice of car by going EV. Locally I've seen more Tesla vehicles on the road than ever before. They may be fast, but a dull, characterless silent interior to me, seems like a mobile science lab. Is this another "fad" like diesels that will haunt us when we need to dispose of toxic batteries, increased costs on maintenance and perhaps a levy on the toxic materials used in manufacture to push the price up?. For the meantime I'll keep my internal combustion engine nice and warm, but the elephant in the room isn't going to disappear if I buy an EV, in order to get that elephant to move, you need to speak to it in Chinese and ask it to stop polluting.
  14. I found it really "hoppy" but it was nice when made into a shandy. I think if anyone ever dredged the route between the SON base and the Bustan beach (which we would visit before anything was there, even a road into it) or Bhandar Jissar they'd get about 100 tonnes of Aluminum from the empty cans we dumped over the side with holes in them!.
  15. Coming back here after 6 months is like returning to work to find everything the same (including the bottle of milk you left in the fridge), but a slight undercurrent of something feeling very different. We all know that when someone takes over an established forum such as this one, the changes are not there initially, but they do creep in over time as those with a financial interest may think that a change in certain directions could be beneficial, however those changes are frequently seen from a different viewpoint than that of the end user BM. I could cite another forum which is not PA whereby there was a sad loss of the gentleman who started it, and the person who took over eventually began to dictate and enforce rules which went again the original concept of the forum. This was despite promising he would uphold the core values that the forum was based upon. Whilst the people who have now kindly invested their time and money into financially supporting T247, ensuring we continue to have a well moderated and fair platform in which to enjoy, the only proof we will have will be to look at things in a year or two's time. I have no doubt that Bryan will be true to his word. Having had zero to do with any forums (I didn't even log in to look) since Sept, coming back and seeing some characters whom I may or may not have agreed with having left, it is possible (while I catch up with the posts and topics I missed) to see a definite difference and dare I say it, lack , in some areas of controversial discussion which at times can be highly opinionated, but does add value to the forum. The difficulty that the new Admin and existing mods will face is a question "damned if you do, damned if you don't". Something that might be introduced which is beneficial may not be considered by the readership to be, but behind the scenes might generate revenue in order to keep the board going with software upgrades and server upgrades etc. I would be very disappointed to see the forum become a mobile advertising billboard like PA though. The clean, slick, fast loading and easy to navigate interface compares more favourably to that of PA (where I had a sneaky look) IMO. Whatever happens, I'll continue to be a BM and enjoy and contribute. I'll keep my side of the bargain if they keep theirs.
  16. We opened ours 22 years ago, so not sure but Horizondave is on the money (pardon the pun) with his info on opening an AC there. I found this link which might help a bit: https://kittelsoncarpo.com/an-expats-guide-to-opening-a-bank-account-in-the-philippines/ Incidentally, try not to use an ATM other than one inside a bank unless you're in somewhere decent like MOA . I've seen at least 4 with skimmers attached and in the process of being removed (but to be fair they had "Out of order" notices on them and were taped up).
  17. We did lol, I thought some of it looked familiar!. Best thing about MAM HQ was the massive pool, we would grab a couple of large inner tubes and float around on them, problem is they were black and got pretty warm... I went up in a Helo out of MAM once along with my brother, on a trip my Dad arranged for us, we landed briefly at the SON Naval base near the palace, had a refuel stop after flying about and ended up over Jebel Akdhar with a stop off at Rustaq before heading back. Really exciting stuff. My memories of witnessing the aftermath of an Airworks gathering ( a BBQ at the SON base) were several bins full of empty "Amstel Beer" cans 🍻.
  18. Yep, I stumbled on his channel (not going to mention it in case it's not allowed under forum rules) a while ago, watched a couple of vids and a bit of his livestream. He has since changed the name of his channel I think, or maybe started another one as it keeps coming up in my recommendations. Again, I was pretty shocked at the level of vitriol on the stream itself coming both from him to others in the "chat" and vice versa and in my own, personal opinion I thought he treated the Thais very disrespectfully. I binned it after about 5 minutes, haven't been back since, not will I.
  19. I only go onto youtube for music or DIY stuff and Philippines news. I have seen a few of these vloggers on YT, but the comments area on many of them seems to be quite "toxic", with arguments, insults, and one youtube channel in particular actively seeking to get these vloggers off YT altogether. Some stuff is really nasty, after watching a couple I kind of thought that it's probably good for local info, but ignore the whole comments section!!
  20. Not only that, years ago my Dad was on a patrol in the Empty Quarter near the area it intersects with Yemen, they were in a pair of Land Rovers with all the gear, but still managed to come across the occasional Jebali driving a Toyota saloon or pick up.
  21. Great story, brought back some memories of "wadi bashing" in a land rover, also doing a bit of driving around the Empty Quarter when we were in Salalah, they don't call it the empty quarter for nothing lol. It was like the surface of the moon, barren, hot and not much happening anywhere lol. The airworks guys had a reputation for kicking back. I think they were based at Seeb in the military area of the Airport which was at the far end, and also there was one or two based at MAM HQ to work on the Helo's based there. Accidents were more common than one may think, I recall a story of a Jundi hitting a camel in an old Toyota corolla, it came through the windscreen and killed the poor sod.

    No more 747's?

I read somewhere that Cilla Black always insisted on seat 1A and threw a right strop if she didn't get it. Do you rate the current BA Business product Shaksey?, ever tried their PE at all?. Considering it as an option in the future (I'm considering a lot of things, although "clutching at straws" might be a better way to put it lol).

    No more 747's?

Shame they've dropped the PE option from the 787's, each time I've flown in PE on EVA, all but once it has been at capacity. I didn't find much to choose between EVA and Cathay PE to be fair, I thought that with the new seats and no IFE box, the EVA product was slightly better, and the price point was also quite a bit better on the LHR-BKK as opposed to LHR-HKG with Cathay, EVA worked out around £230 per person cheaper return ( although that was couple of years ago now). EVA really have a good product with PE, and some say it's the gateway drug into Business. Can't beat it on a long haul flight.
  24. Good question, I was going to ask the same!. When was this one opened? Didn't notice it last year (but that seems such a looong time ago now)
