  1. No idea how this ended up on my YT recommend list.

  3. Just completed my extension to stay. Was surprised how crowded Maneerat's office was this morning, but since I was only picking up my passport I was in and out in five minutes. While the agency fee has remained the same, there was one difference from the last couple of years that make it a bit easier. I no longer had to make a trip to Jomtien Immigration for the sole purpose of having my picture taken. Instead the picture was taken at Maneerat's office. Overall I rate Maneerat's service as excellent. When I stopped in last Thursday afternoon there was no line, so only spent about 10 minutes at the office while they completed the paperwork. Once they were done with me they sent me off to the nearby Bangkok Bank branch for the wonky proof of deposit. That experience was a test of patience. I was second in line, but waited close to 30 minutes for my number to be called. At one point there were four bank employees looking busy doing who knows what for about 15 minutes while there were no customers at the windows. Should have brought a book to read as I could have at least been productive with the wasted time. One curiosity at Maneerat. For those looking for an agent to help open a bank account, their fee is 3700B for age 50 - 63 and 4700B for those 64 and older. When I asked about why us old farts have to pay more, their reply was it was for insurance. Didn't take that discussion any farther as I'm sure it would have done my head in listening to their convoluted reasoning for the insurance requirement.
  4. Think you're correct. The decorative railing in the background is distinctive, and I was trying to remember where I'd seen it before.
  5. Looks like those still in the plane when it submerged didn't make it. RIP 19 dead after commercial aircraft crashes into Lake Victoria in Tanzania A Tanzanian commercial flight operated by Precision Air crash-landed in bad weather in Lake Victoria on Sunday, killing 19 people. The country’s Prime Minister, Kassim Majaliwa, said officials believe all bodies have been recovered from the airplane. “We’re starting to pull out the luggage and personal items from the aircraft. A team of doctors and security agencies have started the process of identifying the dead and notifying the families,” Majaliwa said. The airline confirmed the death toll and amended the number of survivors down to 24 in an updated statement on Sunday evening. Earlier, the carrier as well as local officials had said that 26 of the 43 people on board had been rescued. “Precision Air extends its deepest sympathies to the families and friends of the passenger and crew involved in this tragic incident. The company will strive to provide them with information and whatever assistance they will require in their difficult time,” the airline said. ...
  6. Sounds like the rescue operation is still in progress. The quote below indicating the pilots are still on board and are communicating with rescuers from the mostly submerged plane would imply they've closed the doors to keep the plane from flooding. Scary situation for those still on the plane. Passengers rescued after commercial aircraft crashes into Lake Victoria in Tanzania ... “We’re trying to pull out the aircraft from the water. We’re trying to check if the wheels hit the ground under water or figure out some other way to push it out of the lake. At this time, there is still communication from the cockpit. The pilots are still in contact with us,” Chalamila said. Speaking at the site earlier Sunday, Kagera provincial police commander William Mwampaghale said “everything is currently under control.” “Rescue operations are underway, we have so far rescued several people and eventually we will make sure we have rescued everyone and removed the airplane out of the water,” he said. “Those who have been rescued have been taken to our referral hospital.” ...
  7. Well done. Wonder when, or rather if they'll ever fix the footpath. @john luke, would you please edit the topic title to add "Solved".
  8. Yep, that be his mate. Do you remember where you were when you snapped the pics?
  9. A great white shark photobombed a photographer’s snap of a surfer
  10. Google Translate says the top line is "service is available" bottom line is "parking". Odd about thing about the Thai language is it takes the same number of characters to spell out three words compared to the one word "parking".
  11. Good interview of one lady's perspective of life in the sex industry.
  12. You sure about that John? It's next to 808, but the bar is called Candy Shop. You can just barely make out the candy cane colored letters in my pic.
  13. PA has a long running topic on Noi as well. First post was Feb 2013. Most recent post was last Tuesday noting it was her 42nd b'day.
  14. Think you're correct. I saw the place, and the statues on my ride this morning, but forgot this was still unsolved. As a wise mod recently told me...
  15. I need to get off my bike more. On this morning's ride I was checking the possible spots for Mr. Dino, T21 being one of them, and totally missed seeing the fenced off area. In my defense the fence was camouflaged.
  16. The building next to the 747 now has a name. Club K which I'm guessing with be a night club. Assuming this is the main entrance, it's a bit odd as there's only what looks like a service door. Instead the customers upon entering hang a left and will have to proceed around the building's corner to get to the actual entrance. The white protective covering is over what looks like two way mirror glass. Maybe someone with knowledge of fire codes can comment, but it seems to me there doesn't appear to be large enough, nor numerous enough doors for customers to use in case of an emergency. Besides the above doors, the only other doors are the two in the back. And another two on the north facing side.
  17. You can also hover the cursor over the link to view where it would take you if you were to click on it. Chances are if it's a scam the URL at the beginning of the link will not be a Wise site, but one that is similar in spelling and/or has a domain name ending in something other than .com, which is what Wise uses.
  18. You were a bit earlier than me. Photo was snapped at 11:11:58 am.
  19. Thought this might be an easy one for you. As you're a mod I'll cut you some slack on the hotel name. Edited to add: Would you edit the topic title to add " - Solved: Debua". Thanks.
  20. Back at you @john luke and other BM's. Where was I this morning?
  21. The distinctive background is a giveaway. Bling Club on Buakhao.
  22. On a positive note it was the plural form of motorcycle for the five little ones.
