  1. Thanks. Not sure if you saw my other posts in the reservoirs topic, but my ride yesterday I clocked 47km out to Huai Chak Nok Reservoir first and then on to Mabprachan. Took just under 3hrs for the ride. The route I usually ride for the reservoir update.
  2. Mabprachan Reservoir is looking equally as good. Like Huai Chak Nok Reservoir, the spillway on Mabprachan now has running water again. Can't ever remember seeing the old boat house flooded out. Looks like they're quarrying gravel, which when they're done will further increase the reservoir capacity. The side footpath on the north side is now completed and has several exercise stations along its length. Searching for coins in the kratongs. I remember not long ago the pumping station was sucking mud, no longer though. The new Dollhouse Darkside GC on the east side of the reservoir.
  3. Had a look this morning at the state of the reservoirs at the end of the rainy season. The news is good. First time in I can't remember how many years, maybe nine, that I've seen the reservoirs full. First set of pics showing Huai Chak Nok Reservoir. Looks like one of the channels they dug during the drought is now being used as a fish farm. The prevailing winds has pushed all the floating vegetation to the south end of the reservoir. Closer to the north side it looks like they strung a cable across to keep the vegetation from clogging the new park on the north end when the winds shift around. Something to behold, the water level is up to the spillway edge for the first time in donkey years. On the east side they now have an outlet pipe which I believe connects to water sources south of Pattaya. That gives the water management dept the option of pumping water into the reservoir when things get dire again. @thegrogmonster your neighbors are building quite the mansion next to your plot of land. Your plot is going to need some de-jungleization before you build your mansion. A sea of green on the east side. There is now a beautiful park on the north end of the reservoir which you can read about in this topic.
  4. Huai Chak Nok Reservoir has a new park and the beginnings of a new bike path on the north end. Looks great, IMHO, and looking forward to seeing the completion of the bike path and how far around the reservoir it will go.
  5. Something that I hadn't thought about before, but all provinces are named by their original main city. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Provinces_of_Thailand#Governance "The provinces are named by their original main city, which is not necessarily still the most populous city within the province today. Also, in several provinces the administration has been moved into a new building outside the city."

  10. I'm reading the Infinite Timeline series of books by Jeremy Robinson. He's big on mentioning the music the characters are listening to as they head off to do battle. This song got a mention in the latest book I'm reading, The Order.
  11. My experience with the online 90 day report system over the last year has been good. I may have lucked out, but every time I needed to use the system it's been up and running. They've also made several improvements to the system. The system requires you set up an account, but once created you'll get a 2 week reminder email your report is due. Log on to the system and bring up the form. Enter your name and nationality and click on the magnify glass icon to pre-fill the rest of the report with the last report's info. Submit the report and quite often you'll find it's been immediately approved. A couple of quibbles. - They include in the email my full name, nationality and passport no. Good info to have as a first step to identity theft. - The email doesn't contain a link to the online reporting system, but does have a useless link to a pdf with phone numbers and text, all in Thai. - The magnify glass icon is not very intuitive as to what it does, and has no "hover" text to explain it pre-fills the form. Wonder how many people end up manually filling in the form like I did the first time until someone directs you to the icon. - They could do away with the TM47 completely as the same info is on the TM30.
  12. No idea how this ended up on my YT recommend list.

  14. Just completed my extension to stay. Was surprised how crowded Maneerat's office was this morning, but since I was only picking up my passport I was in and out in five minutes. While the agency fee has remained the same, there was one difference from the last couple of years that make it a bit easier. I no longer had to make a trip to Jomtien Immigration for the sole purpose of having my picture taken. Instead the picture was taken at Maneerat's office. Overall I rate Maneerat's service as excellent. When I stopped in last Thursday afternoon there was no line, so only spent about 10 minutes at the office while they completed the paperwork. Once they were done with me they sent me off to the nearby Bangkok Bank branch for the wonky proof of deposit. That experience was a test of patience. I was second in line, but waited close to 30 minutes for my number to be called. At one point there were four bank employees looking busy doing who knows what for about 15 minutes while there were no customers at the windows. Should have brought a book to read as I could have at least been productive with the wasted time. One curiosity at Maneerat. For those looking for an agent to help open a bank account, their fee is 3700B for age 50 - 63 and 4700B for those 64 and older. When I asked about why us old farts have to pay more, their reply was it was for insurance. Didn't take that discussion any farther as I'm sure it would have done my head in listening to their convoluted reasoning for the insurance requirement.
  15. Think you're correct. The decorative railing in the background is distinctive, and I was trying to remember where I'd seen it before.
  16. Looks like those still in the plane when it submerged didn't make it. RIP 19 dead after commercial aircraft crashes into Lake Victoria in Tanzania A Tanzanian commercial flight operated by Precision Air crash-landed in bad weather in Lake Victoria on Sunday, killing 19 people. The country’s Prime Minister, Kassim Majaliwa, said officials believe all bodies have been recovered from the airplane. “We’re starting to pull out the luggage and personal items from the aircraft. A team of doctors and security agencies have started the process of identifying the dead and notifying the families,” Majaliwa said. The airline confirmed the death toll and amended the number of survivors down to 24 in an updated statement on Sunday evening. Earlier, the carrier as well as local officials had said that 26 of the 43 people on board had been rescued. “Precision Air extends its deepest sympathies to the families and friends of the passenger and crew involved in this tragic incident. The company will strive to provide them with information and whatever assistance they will require in their difficult time,” the airline said. ...
  17. Sounds like the rescue operation is still in progress. The quote below indicating the pilots are still on board and are communicating with rescuers from the mostly submerged plane would imply they've closed the doors to keep the plane from flooding. Scary situation for those still on the plane. Passengers rescued after commercial aircraft crashes into Lake Victoria in Tanzania ... “We’re trying to pull out the aircraft from the water. We’re trying to check if the wheels hit the ground under water or figure out some other way to push it out of the lake. At this time, there is still communication from the cockpit. The pilots are still in contact with us,” Chalamila said. Speaking at the site earlier Sunday, Kagera provincial police commander William Mwampaghale said “everything is currently under control.” “Rescue operations are underway, we have so far rescued several people and eventually we will make sure we have rescued everyone and removed the airplane out of the water,” he said. “Those who have been rescued have been taken to our referral hospital.” ...
  18. Well done. Wonder when, or rather if they'll ever fix the footpath. @john luke, would you please edit the topic title to add "Solved".
  19. Yep, that be his mate. Do you remember where you were when you snapped the pics?
