  1. There are supposedly at least six resident ravens. If they leave the Tower the Crown will fall and Britain with it. Legend of course but the many legends of the ravens make interesting reading.
  2. Episode 3 just finished. Agreed was brilliant but a bit bleak as well. I think I need to find a funny video on Youtube to cheer myself up.
  3. Those lower figures always got me confused when I spent a couple of years in Canada. Most major cities are within 100 km of the US border so in Toronto I would often be watching the Buffalo weather reports without realizing I was watching US tv. Confusion was the order of the day.
  4. The two things that stick in my mind about Arizona are that it was the setting for the 1970's tv show 'Petrocelli' and in the year 2000 I had a Native American 'internet friend' from Phoenix. I never did get to meet her.
  5. While our learned and esteemed co-members fygjam and Freee!! debate the merits of online conversion tools and multi tasking let me answer your question with concrete examples (rounded up/down to 1 decimal point) of some of the temperatures mentioned in the article: 90 F = 32.2 C 100 F = 37.7 C 110 F = 43.3 C 113 F = 45 C 117 F = 47.2 C 127 F = 52.8 C In short: extremely freaking hot.
  6. Just about to sit down in front of the tv and watch episode 2 of 'Time'. The Sean Bean character has no choice but to fight back tonight. Should be good.
  7. I always start singing John Denver songs whenever I see your landscape photos. 🤠
  8. Was good, very intense. Not having been inside I cannot imagine what prison must be like but watching that has curbed me of any criminal desires I may have had. Even a night in a Wetherspoons pub would be preferable to that.
  9. Also reading a Michael Connelly right now:
  10. I've always enjoyed the Hooters on Suk Soi 4, BKK. Sometimes amidst the freneticism of Nana Plaza and Soi 4 a man needs a bit of 'quiet time', a short respite to just have a drink and watch the comings and goings in peace without having to chat to a lady (as charming as they are). Hooters fulfils that need, does a decent pour of liquor and the chilli cheese fries provide a decent sustenance before venturing "once more unto the breach dear friends, once more; / Or close up the wall with our mongers dead"
  11. Nice to see Dao is still there, she looks even tinier than I remember.
  12. Thanks once again to boydeste, Nightcrawler and Tommy Dee and I am now back as Atticus. That's me in my avatar when I first realised I could not access the board! 🍻
  13. Classic dialogue between Geoffrey Palmer and Leonard Rossiter:
  14. E... F.... G... H.... I.... J... Khon Kaen
  15. So many visited over the years........so hard to choose just one. Ones that spring to mind: BKK - Wat Arun and Wat Pho though both very touristy. Also Wat Saket (the Golden Mount) and the Marble Temple (Wat Benchamabophit). Chaing Mai - Doi Suthep of course and, within the city moat my favourite is Wat Phra Singh. Outside Chiang Mai at the foot of Doi Pui mountain is Wat Umong. This is a very peaceful place lying in the forest. Chiang Rai - Undoubtedly Wat Prah Kaew. I must have been here at least 5 times. Just outside the city is the White Temple Wat Rong Kuhn. It does get very crowded but it is worth the effort to see it. I have visited others in Lamphun and Issan but would have to go through thousands of photos to recall names and details.
  16. I haven't been to HH since 2014 but have fond memories of that trip and the lovely Secrets hostess who accompanied me. They have some great seafood restaurants there of course and the night market in the center was a good place to eat. I did enjoy the small bar area around Soi Bintabaht. The girls were friendly enough and, although I was not in the market, I'm sure a chap can always find a pleasant companion for the evening. To visit some of the local attractions you are best hiring a car and driver either by the half day or the full day. I don't recall prices but I remember it seemed reasonable enough at the time. Most hotels can arrange that for you or you will see plenty of places around town offering car service. Huay Mongkol temple was interesting. It has the world's largest statue of Luang Phor Thuad (spellings vary) 'a legendary southern Thai monk' and the statue is impressive. I do have my own photos somewhere but just nicked this one off the net for convenience: Like dcfc above we also visited Mrigadayavan aka Maruekatayawan Palace, very peaceful and attractive. We also visited the sheep farm which Rompho Ray provided photos of earlier in this thread. I could take it or leave it but it is a popular spot and most seem to enjoy it. So that is another big thumbs up for Hua Hin 👍
  17. Nice photos Jambo. I liked many of the quirky embellishments dotted around (the Covid reference on Chucky's overalls amongst others). I take it Sparky was made out of spark plugs? That was quite neat. At what age does the Senior Citizen discount kick in?
  18. Once Upon a Time in the West is the best western I have ever seen. The score by Morricone is legendary. The final duel between Henry Fonda and Charles Bronson is a cinematic classic. (Attempts at embedding unsuccessful)!
  19. Did it ruin the mood or did you at least finish the job in true Pattaya style?
  20. 😂😂 The guy in the green top at the end giving it the shithouse shuffle:
  21. I would choose Thai because it is my favourite and if I am using work vacation days for a 2 or 3 week holiday then a direct flight is worth the extra (I've no experience with EVA). If time is not an issue and I would be spending + 1 month in Thailand then Etihad would suit me fine. They used to be my airline of choice a few years back when there were no direct flights from my local airport.
  22. Just watched the second one - Ayutthaya and Kanchanburi. It is also on tomorrow evening (Thursday) when MP is in BKK.
  23. But since his visit to the purramedics he is feline mutt betta.......
