  1. Wishing i'd have put money on the Fury fight not happening. Was the biggest cert!
  2. Can now say we're off to Thailand next month. Can't say i've ever noticed much smog anywhere apart from Bangkok. I do enjoy getting to Krabi after the grime and pollution of Bangers.
  3. Thing is as well, if someone came back to Thailand after 10 or 15 years, they would notice absolutely loads of changes. Attitudes of Thais, demographics of people now coming to Thailand, cost, so many different things. Some would dislike the changes, some would like them, dependant on their views, what they use Thailand for. Change is constant, no matter where ...
  4. Priorities There's 2 pubs within 5 mins walk, one an Irish bar, one a kinda more upmarket Sports bar that does nice food as well. And if you walked 10mins, you have an abundance of bars, one even has a Thai kitchen. You'd be fine
  5. I think it must be different in different areas. I went to my dentist to book a cleaning appointment on Monday, was seen half an hour ago. It was just a clean, there was no rush anyway, Band 2, deep clean. I can call up my GP's in the morning, get speaking to a GP on the phone that day, if they deem it necessary, an in person appointment that day or next. I really like my daughter's school, it's so much better in so many ways in how and what they teach than from when i was at primary school. They have the parents so much more involved. They notice and pick up on things really well with pupils, put in place plans to help. While when i was at school if you weren't good a certain subject or whatever, then you just weren't, that was it. My daughter's school is a great mix of ethnicities and religions and none. There are Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, Christian etc, there are Bangladeshi, Vietnamese, Somali, Irish, English, Polish, lots mixed race kids etc, just like in the world. I could have got her into an about 75% white primary school, we're in the middle catchment of that one as well. But i didn't want her to go to a school which is too much top heavy in one demographic. I get people are pissed off with the boats coming, but as much as it's illegal, and i would want it stopped. It's not even double figures in percentage wise of immigration to the UK. It's legal immigration that's causing the big figures, of which i and others on this forum would be part of the legal immigration numbers via our wives. So when people complain it's getting too hard to get wives in or keep them here, then complain about immigration, you can't have it both ways if the Gov tries to curtail it. But it suits the Tories to scream about the 8% illegals or whatever, so it distracts people from the other 92% they allow in legally. But as said, it depends where you are. As much as i like getting away from the big city, find it therapeutic. The benefits of living here are many, such as the many varied opportunities for me and my family, the relative ease to get medical related appointments etc. Like in Northern Ireland the NHS is a basket case, although due partly from having on government for 2 years. Maybe many more rural areas are the same. I would move from here if money was not an issue to maintaining the same standard of living, education, access to healthcare etc we current have. If and when i can retire, i would still keep this place on, and do 'long trips' so can keep the address specifically for said reasons. But the timing is okay at the moment, when that would come, the education and age would be pretty much be less my responsibility, and more on what my daughter would want to do at that stage. But everyone's situation and priorities are different, the above is just mine. Doesn't mean it's right for anyone else, just currently right for me/us.
  6. That's why i purposely booked Thai for next month, my last 2 flights with EVA have been quite stressful, one time never even got luggage till next day. Though to be fair, the last trip was Heathrow's fault, a breakdown on a luggage belt, not EVA.
  7. Disappointed! Opened this excepting to see proof of Martians or similar.
  8. I only tip if i think someone deserves it, they were super friendly or helpful etc. That's in London, Thailand, Turkey, wherever. I certainly don't tip if i feel it's just expected no matter for normal service, good bad or whatever. And i don't really care if i get any respect for doing so, it's not why i do it, if i do it. Like if someone goes out of their way to have good interaction with my 7 year old, or if they were helpful in a friendly way with the menu, explaining any questions. Or attentive with a smile without being overbearing. If i just feel like they deserve it because their attitude has helped enhance our enjoyment of our time as their establishment.
  9. Brilliant version. My 2nd favourite Cure song after a Forest
  10. Great to see so many posters being open about sharing their inner Jimmy Somerville. The forum has become much more open and inclusive for the said posters above. I mind the shameful abuse @galenkia had to take on here when this forum first started about his gay Bros earring. It's wasn't big and and it wasn't clever, the homophobic abuse given out, you know who you are! Anyone wants to tag any board members in this Pride event, feel free.
  11. Congratulations on getting to your dotage, i didn't know you were on the firm. There's sadly many of us who don't get to our dotage. Love that word 'dotage' by the way. I was born in Northern Ireland, but my ethnicity would be an Ulster/Scot. My family on both my mum and dad's sides have for generations moved back and forward from Scotland to Ulster to Scotland following the work. 'Dotage' reminds me of the Ulster/Scots language i grew up listening to my grandparents speak, and to a lesser degree my parents. Like, doting would normally mean in English adoring, very fond of. But in Ulster/Scots is used to say someone is getting confused, usually with age. 'The Auld wan's started doting' . As in the elderly person is starting to get confused. And Rabbie Burns night on Thursday! But you might already know all this, many many Ulster/Scots went to America, quite a few even become Presidents! The red wine, sure you know yourself best by now. Me personally, only thing i miss is a joint of weed or hash to chill out with after a long day sometimes. But i don't because it would get me back smoking tobacco, and i definitely don't want to do that. I couldn't just do pipes, i'd need a joint, which would have me back on the tobacco, so i don't. Maybe a good thing anyway. As for your wife's son. To me addiction is addiction. But alcohol and meth are completely different drugs. Because that's what ice is, crystal meth. So i'd definitely try and get him to use NA before AA if he's willing. The two drugs have completely different highs, and lows, so best to get him to listen to people where he can relate, hear something he's done or going through. I mean, if you take too much alcohol you'll fall about the place, pass out eventually. If you take too much meth, you'll not sleep for a week, run about mad wired to f**k, full of drug induced psychosis due to lack of sleep, food etc. I think it's rife in parts of Thailand, so if he will attend a Thai NA meet i'm pretty certain it'll mostly be meth users of some description, ice, ya baa or whatever other concoction they're making over the border in Myanmar. Good luck!

  13. Try this number - 24 Hour Help Line Number: +66 (0) 600035635 There's loads of online meetings as well these days, can do they from a phone/tablet/laptop etc from his bedroom. I do the odd Belfast NA meet online, where i got clean and sober, with me now living in London. The helpline should be able to direct you, but he has to want the help. Still, great of you to try and help. Good luck!
  14. There was loads of bits and pieces of veg in the fridge. Mrs Krapow decided to cook them all in a spicy Suki. And very nice it was, some more for lunch tomorrow.
  15. You can get the krapow flavour ones over here at Asian supermarkets
  16. Yea, thinking about it, my downfall is crisps. I don't really eat a lot of cake or sweet, sugary stuff, except maybe a nice coffee cake which I like. But I love crisps, and can be found browsing the many mental different flavours available in Thai supermarkets 🤣
  17. The guide i'm gonna be using in Lapland next month was actually telling me he has to get his car fixed, after hitting a reindeer. He said he's been where he is, really rural, for about 3 years. A few near misses, so he knew is was gonna happen sooner or later. When we were driving about 'hunting the Aurora', we did see loads of wild reindeer in the forests, crossing roads etc.
  18. Am i the only one who puts weight on in Thailand? Never done reading about people losing weight in Thailand, but i put it on. I can't be bothered doing the gym, but no plenty scuba and walking. Maybe the King Power breakfast buffet scrum and eat has a lot to answer for ...
