  1. My Cockney mate Del-boy. Cheated death from cancer twice, but 3 was not a charm for him. Lovely lad, will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him.
  2. That's a great thing mate. You keeping yourself together, straight and sober, is what she has probably wanted for you for a long time. If she is the person I think she is, she's glad she's the reason you're doing it, regardless of what it means for her. And, she's hoping you'll do it forever. Which is why you should, in my very humble opinion.
  3. What you're doing for your sister is your redemption, mate, the right that makes all the past wrongs irrelevant. Not everybody gets a chance to be redeemed in this way, and many who do get that chance don't recognize it when it presents itself. You are rising to a task many would fail at or shrink from, and you're doing it with strength and resolve. This is the real you, the person that many other than yourself could see even when you didn't believe it yourself. It's a heroic thing you're doing. I have a ton of respect for it, as many others around you do.
  4. Bit of trivia: She was in the "Blues Brothers" movie, in the James Brown "Triple Rock Baptist Church" scene.
  5. Funny, this album "Over-Nite Sensation" and "Apostrophe" are considered by many aficionados to be Zappa's "commercial sell-out" albums, but yet they are among my favorites. Great cover of a Zappa tune: Joe Satriani, Steven Vai, Eric Johnson, toured calling themselves "G3".
  6. Came as a shock to me I'll tell ya! Can't remember now when I ran across it, probably on a drunken search for something else. The above link wouldn't load for me for some reason, so here's the track:
  7. Ponty went on to do his own great things, like so many who played with Zappa.
  8. Zappa on guitar, George Duke on keys, Jean-Luc Ponty on violin, the first many of us heard of him.
  9. Agree. There are guys who play the guitar as well or possibly better, but Zappa was an absolute unbridled genius. The Nikola Tesla of modern music.
  10. Great album from beginning to end. Not many people know that Frank Zappa covered this tune:

  12. I had seen this one before, but a long time ago, so watched it again just now. Truly fantastic. He says repeatedly that Asia, and specifically Thailand, changes you and makes your life in the west inadequate. I totally agree. >5 years now back in the US and that video reminds me of that fact, with dispiriting vividness. Some years back I was working in China with a multinational crew starting up a couple of giant rolling mills. A guy on that crew, from Finland, said it best: Thailand changes your reference points. Thanks for posting that.

  14. Thread could use a bump! ~22C now, down from ~25 earlier. This and late autumn are the best times of year here, weather-wise.
  15. Dayum! Such great TRs being posted, I'm gonna have to bring me fookin "A" game when I post mine!! Cheers Gaz, great stuff!
  16. I have the politics section blocked. Please delete my posts from there.
  17. Just to be clear, this was the remark I was responding to, with emphasis added. We agree on the matter though.
  18. Maybe the adrelanine rush of getting there after all the waiting and anticipation? You're what, 6 or 7 time zones from Thailand? The US is 11-12 depending on the month. Change 6 time zones and you're either an early riser or a night owl. Change 12 time zones and you're a fookin' zombie!
