  1. Salems lot is a great call. Carrie but have been beaten to that by the force. But the scariest for me as a kid was Tales of the Unexpected. The theme tune alone sent a shiver down my spine.
  2. I've "bought" a Sketchers bag, and a couple from Villa and Tops. Am using them for further shopping. In the habit from the UK it's no bother at all. The charge is something like 5 baht. It would be great if they gave them away for free to the locals. Look at me advocating dual pricing🤯
  3. Fair enough, maybe he's gained he's gained a few regulars. Watched some of YT channel during the dark days of lock down. I'd agree some of the interviews were OK. Bits of the live music were also good. Also I'd add in when he went on the road with Karl, who does seem to be genuine. But beyond that the content was total bullshit. My favourite piece was him and the Scottish chap doing their 10 biggest mistakes you can make. On the list was "Going to other places" Apparently if you consider going to anyhwere other than Pattaya on your holiday that was a huge mistake. Every week threw up several pieces of unintended humour, that was my favourite. Genuinely don't wish the guy ill as I respect anyone who's taking a punt given the miniscule success rate of small businesses anywhere let alone Thailand
  4. Bahn Mi was so good ordered shrimp spring rolls. The decoration was a dammed good satay sauce, possibly. 120 baht and fantastic 🤤
  5. In Hua Hin, rain has only just stopped M'Lud
  6. Bahn Mi 160 Baht, was so good I wolfed it down, and forgot to put the corriander back on it
  7. Beer Lao IPA 120 Baht, very good. Sheltering from a downpour, that's my story and I'm sticking to it 😀
  8. Isn't he just acting in his own self-interest, like the rest of us🙂 He chose to move from his Pothole bar a Soi that seems to be thriving to a dead one. At the the time of my last visit back in Jan, if you believed the YT hype the Soi was thriving. Reality was the Soi was dead, and his bar was virtually empty. There was no visible managment presence, some of the girls were OK I'll grant that, the music was dreadful though(dance stuff) Why should I support that? Will always make a point of supporting Dean in Witherspoons. He's always welcoming, and has made an effort to get to know me. Same with Phil at LePub Back on topic, I'd give the same response as @Stillearly WS street 10 years+ back in time
  9. Thank you I'm in Hua Hin but might shuffle to BKK, I did chat with the very good people in the Immigration office at HH Bluport and they pointed out I'd need a certificate of residency to open a bank account given the supporting docs I had. As I've not yet secured a permanent residece, realise I'm the idiot in the rooom. But fully understand the rules now!! Last thing I want is an account with BKK bank. Stupid as I am expended some shoe leather in BKK and HH, and they do seem to be the bank with the biggest queues. No doubt if I was in Patts I could get this sorted easily, as your pal has done. Can't help some folk😛
  10. Having a beer after a surreal failed attempt at opening a K Bank account. None of the staff could speak English but then I can't speak Thai🤷‍♂️ The highlight was the senior staff member showing me a translated question, " Who do you follow in Thailand ". Resisted the urge to say " Tottenham Hotspur, same as in England " All very polite, after the intervention of an English speaker they called up, understood I didn't have what was needed to open an account
  11. That looks fantastic! Got to ask though, what's going on with the biscuit?
  12. Piper Laurie Wonderful versatile actress, in one of my favourite films of all time The Hustler opposite Paul Newman right through to years later appearing in Carrie. On TV she almost made it into one of my fav series the original Twin Peaks, and another Fraser!! Just skimming the surface of what was an incredibly full life I won't mention the furure American president.. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/piper-laurie-dead-twin-peaks-hustler-carrie-1235618677/ R.I.P Piper
  13. Tackling the No.1 expat issue there😀 Watched circa 40 expats queueing up for free party bar food the other night (won't mention the bar as it's one I really like), and others grousing about the length of the queue. I gave up queueing for free dinners when I left school!!!
  14. That was my interpretation too. Will read the article later. Noticed it was by a London bus stop. Found myself hoping they were London Transport employees being whipped😛
  15. Woke up to that this morning, was going on and off from around 7pm the previous day. Hate to imagine what that would do to wait times at Heathrow. Amazing how the Thai's adapt, compared to us with a little winter snow!!
  16. Thank God for that!!! Feeling distinctly jet lagged and hungover today. My fantasy team seems to feeling the same😝 Somehow managed to scrape a win in what must have been one of the worst HH games this year!
  17. Salmon steak, 399 THB Royal Oak BKK. There's potato underneath, it came in a light dill sauce. Was delicious, tasted better than it looked.
  18. Great topic @Butch Fascinating to see the replies and how many BM's got out around the 50 year mark My retirement at 50 was totally unplanned, but a very happy moment🥳 I was doing a job I had enjoyed but had become very, very stressful and a working environment that had turned poisonous. My scum bag boss had sent me an invite for a one-to-one meeting. Walked into it to find HR waiting with a nice severance package, Was a struggle to stop open celebrating in front of them less they withdrew it. The timing was perfect as my Mum had advanced stage dementia. I pretty much became her main carer for the next 2 and a half years, with help from a very good friend of my Mum's. Doing that was obviously far more important than any of meaningless office s****** It hit me harder than I expected when my Mum passed and not too long after along came COVID!! Over 6 years on now from stopping work and I don't miss one bit. However..... in the past year of so I have suffered periods of not, knowing what the hell to do with myself. Now that has been a new development. However I'd confess was mainly me own fault. I'd let my exercise regime slip and had become lazy at times. Now I'm a few days in to giving living in Thailand a go, and I think how lucky I am to have this opportunity.
  19. Landed into BKK at circa 16.00 on Thursday 5th October using EVA The EVA landing spot was I'd guestimate 300 metres from Immigration, was the shortest walk I've ever had at Swampy. The flight was much better than my Thai airways experience in Jan. Food, service, seating, entertainment options and far free headphones all superior. Flew in Economy cabin. Given how close we landed to immigration, I had a whole 1 person in front of me. Bags were ready reasonably promptly. Ovearll impression on Thursday afternoon was Swampy was relatively quiet. Overall an excellent experience.
  20. Got 44.85 Baht/GBP at Vasu in Bangkok this monring, for £50 notes. Looking online at the popular TT exchange they are offerting 44.70 Nice plus with Vasu is you are inside in AC comfort, and not out in the heat.
  21. From the same brewer. Complimentary on the first class rattler to London
  22. Hopefully the link below works. In addiiton to being a great player, Franny Lee went on to be a succesful business man and a horse race trainer racking up 181 winners. Not the best piece of writing from the Racing Post but still adds colour to a great man's life. https://www.racingpost.com/news/britain/tributes-paid-to-trainer-and-manchester-city-star-francis-lee-after-death-aged-79-aZpPX3b7RN1r/ R.I.P
  23. @galenkia know you are a kindle man. 3 Stephen Leather books on sale for £1.99, reading from Stickman think it's a one day sale, today only. Don't know if you are a fan, they review well and he is a terrific writer https://www.amazon.co.uk/Stephen-Leather-Hong-Kong-Novels-ebook/dp/B0CHN26H23?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_w=gg19X&content-id=amzn1.sym.72fa84e5-4730-4039-9e38-3a9afc8c18e9:amzn1.symc.adba8a53-36db-43df-a081-77d28e1b71e6&pf_rd_p=72fa84e5-4730-4039-9e38-3a9afc8c18e9&pf_rd_r=M2SHRW5BYGS1TDFF8SSA&pd_rd_wg=zIZvc&pd_rd_r=10775fba-3082-4998-97dc-629a7068cfcd&linkCode=sl1&tag=stephenleathe-21&linkId=2c4dce70d87b4695684e7660c6f5d384&language=en_GB&ref_=as_li_ss_tl
