  1. Don Imus, Legendary 'Imus in the Morning' Host, Dies at 79 Don Imus, the radio personality whose insult humor and savage comedy catapulted him to a long-lasting and controversial career, has died at 79. His three-hour radio program, Imus in the Morning, was widely popular, especially with the over 25-male demographic.
  2. I had it in the back of my mind to do just that in the next couple of days. What side of the lake is your land? I'll make a point to get some pics of that area.
  3. It's been two weeks and two days since the last update, so hopped on my bike and had a very enjoyable ride this morning around what remains of Mabprachan Reservoir. Starting again on the southwest side. More spots that were previously underwater are now exposed. Wish they would mount a water level gage to this structure. I'm estimating the water is down another 1/2 meter or so since the last update. I wonder how much longer it will be before this guy can walk to his fishing camp. They're now having to pump water from the low spots. Another couple of weeks and there will be no need for a bridge over this channel. A babbling brook in the middle of what was once a lake. The island is now a peninsula. On the north end looking south. Fishing is a lot easier when they fish are trapped in what remains of the water on the north end. Mabprachan is fast becoming a lush meadow. Can't really call it "lush" as the dominant flora are thorn bushes. A bit of a technical ride to get out to the far end of this exposed rock outcropping. Had to ride over a lot of broken shells and gnarly rocks to get to the far end, but this was the view looking back. And the view towards the dam at the west end of the reservoir. Now back at the southwest side. I see they've closed off the channel into the pond within a lake and are now having to pump water into the pond. At the rate the water level is dropping it doesn't bode well for the Pattaya area in the coming months. As the next rainy season is a long way off, I expect we'll see severe water rationing measures to conserve what little remains of the water supply.
  4. As it turns out there's nothing wrong with the counter, it just lags by a few minutes updating the total post count. So @Stillearly still wins the meaningless milestone award.
  5. Even better, the counter can't count correctly. This post should be 100,001.
  6. LOL. Very appropriate post as the 100,000th post on the board. But guess what. Turns out the counter doesn't allow for six digits, so it's still stuck on 99,999.
  7. Won't be me as this is post no. 99,999. Who will have the honour?
  8. My usual bill is just under 200 too. My highest bill, there's a story behind that one. The city supply feeds an underground tank and then a pump feeds an underground line to my 1000L, above ground tank. Unseen by me the underground line developed a small leak. I only caught the problem when I noticed the car park pavement was looking a bit damp in one spot. Lifted the cover to the underground tank and saw a lake of water around the outside of the tank. My water bill arrived a short time later and I about shit my pants when I saw it was 7,700B. The water must have been leaking out for close a month to get the bill that high.
  9. LOL, yeah at first glance it does seem odd to be talking about collecting rain during a draught. But I think the problem is the occasional rain we get isn't enough to replenish the reservoirs, but I'm hoping should be enough to handle watering the garden every couple of days. I estimate we use about 100L each time we water the garden every two days. So a 1k tank should carry us through a 20 day dry spell. Not sure how often we go 20 days without any kind of rain, but I'll be gambling with an investment in the tank that it's not too often. The other unknown is if a local downpour will be enough to top off the tank. Fortunately my house already has rain gutters, so what hits the roof won't go to waste. I'm also fortunate my house is set up well to weather city water supply outages with two, 1k and 2k tanks. Where did you purchase the 1k tank from?
  10. @BarryL wasn't referring to you quoting from Stickman's site, but that it looked like Stickman used info that may have come from @john luke's post about how bad the Pattaya pollution was without giving credit to the source for the info. Not the first time he's done that either. BTW, to be accurate, the quote in your post wasn't from his column, but as another BM pointed out it was from a reader submitted comment on the plans for the Avenue.
  11. I'd like to do the same, so I'm curious where you'll place the tanks to collect the grey water? If above ground, will you be using some type of pump assist to get the water into the tanks? And for the readers of 247 it's not been a hidden story. 😉 Edited to add: I'm now thinking a grey water collection system would probably not be worth the cost as the amount of water collected wouldn't be much compared to a rainwater collection system. Collecting rainwater would also be a much simpler system to install.
  12. I'll lead off with the worst. This... And the best...
  13. Too bad he it wasn't for "reckless driving". Apparently the fine for that is only 500B, or maybe you have to be a former MP to get that rate. 🙄 Thawee denies trying to escape after accident When police arrived, he asked them if there was a motorcycle repair shop nearby. He then paid for the repair work, gave the boy a sum of money for reparations, and paid a 500-baht fine to the police for reckless driving, Mr Thawee said.
  14. Around Pattaya I would agree. This is the place I've been renting for almost eight years for 17k/month. Friend just rented a house a few doors down that is of identical design and quality and got a good deal at 15k/month. I'd also add from my experience, and from what I've heard from others is once you establish yourself as a good tenant, rent increases are pretty much unheard of.
  15. At least one other BM noticed.
  16. To borrow your favorite phrase, BINGO. I've rented the same house for almost eight years. Other than a shitty neighbor across the soi from me who keeps a kennel of dogs, I've enjoyed my stay here. That is until last month when my next door neighbor decided on a whim she needed to make some additional money, so she's building a restaurant where her garden once was.
  17. "not" came from Wayne's World, a hilarious movie, IMHO One phrase that came into common use in the business world and annoyed me to no end, "ping me". Another annoying one, "out of pocket" as in "I'll be out of pocket for awhile, ping me if you need me for anything". Back on OT, I agree, the MDL Beast Fest is one concert I have to go to, not. I find EDM music repetitive and boring. Probably best listened to while tripping.
  18. A large Christmas tree going up at Bali Hai Pier for the Countdown Festival. The repairs on the walkway didn't last long. No surprise either as when I rode over the replacement boards with my mtn bike they rumbled and clattered like they were never nailed down. Looks like the garbage barge got a fresh coat of paint. The stairs to the pier are back. A few more floating restaurants out in the bay.
  19. Wonder if stickman will see the quote and use it in his column as the quote of the week.
  20. The Avenue is in a good location to pull this off. Although 39 gogos and 40 beer bars is a bit much. Cut those numbers by 20% and they may still have a winner.
  21. Thanks @Toy Boy for the detailed report on the extension process now. Makes me a bit happier that I used an agent for the first time in ten years for my extension in November. I live near Klang and Sukhumvit and would be a bit put off having to make two trips to immigration in one day.
  22. You can start with a Non-O visa and then get an extension to stay based on retirement, which is what Toy Boy did.
  23. We're now into the unhealthy level. Looks like I'll need to spend more time on a bar stool than on my bike to keep my lungs healthy. https://www.airvisual.com/thailand/chon-buri/pattaya
