  1. If you like BB - and I am sure you will - follow it up with "Better Call Saul", a spin-off from BB; I watched four seasons out of five in Thailand last winter and loved it and signed up to Netflix in the hopes of finishing it off, but the buggers don't have season five yet, damn them...
  2. Taking advantage of a nice day yesterday to do a little late season ridge riding:
  3. One of my summer cars - 1992 BMW "E36" 325i, originally built for Japanese export with LHD, basically a Euro version with a couple of quirks for Japan - and imported to Canada later; only 114K km on the clock and totally rust free:
  4. That's a bloody big fish, alright - but it sure is an ugly one too, lol....
  5. Well. as a confirmed landlubber I can say it makes my stomach heave just watching it, lol...
  6. Just finished putting my old Mercedes away for the winter - a bit early this year but we had such a crappy summer that I didn't drive it much anyway and have many other preparations to do over the next couple of weeks:
  7. I don't think I will be rushing to make any reservations for this winter - I'll give it six months and see what happens in the meantime...
  8. I would love to take one of these - or their replicar successor, the Caterham - out for a blast but I doubt that I'd fit in the bloody thing...
  9. Having a leisurely brekkie as usual, waiting for the world to warm outside so I can go out and do a bunch of yard work - was -5C overnight but is clear and sunny now and will be a lovely afternoon; damn, it's good to be retired and not have to go out and scrape the windshield and freeze my ass off for the first few hours of work! The weather forecast is for sunny weather all week, about f**king time after the wet summer we've had...
  10. I will never forget Emma Peel, even though I was a child when I watched the original series - RIP, Dame Diana Rigg...
  11. I wish we could send some of our overabundant moisture down your way...
  12. We certainly didn't have much of a summer this year - one of the worst I have ever seen with some amount of rain almost every day. The reason it was so cold yesterday morning is that it finally cleared off and clear skies this time of year usually mean sub-zero temperatures at night - but yesterday was a glorious day after it warmed up. Then it was rain again last night with a temperature of 7C at 0800 this morning, but autumn is definitely here and leaves are falling all over my yard. Our ride on Saturday was probably the last mountain ride for the season, there will be snow up there soon.
  13. Went for a rough and muddy 60km ride into a mountain lake yesterday with some mates, now I've got to go out and start cleaning up the mess - was -3C this morning so I've been waiting for it to warm up a little before I get the garden hose out:
  14. Another ride into the mountains yesterday - a rough and muddy 60km trip over about 3.5 hrs, won't be doing these much longer this year!
  15. An old family friend gave me her husband's tools after he passed away many years ago - he had hundreds of punches, files, etc. plus many obsolete tools that I can't even identify; I figure he'd lifted all of them from the government workshop where he was employed as a mechanic, probably one or two tools a day for years...
  16. Well, we have plenty of grizzlies where I live and generally they stay away from people - the only time they will attack is if they feel threatened or if they are old and starving because they can no longer find their usual food. I would suspect their eradication from Colorado and other areas of the continental US has more to do with people using up their habitat for cattle and sheep ranches - good food for grizzlies and if they take advantage of it, they end up dead at the hands of the ranchers. Black bears, on the other hand, are quite often seen around our town and every year they have to relocate or kill scores of them throughout our territory. Black bears have been known to stalk and hunt humans for food - extremely uncommon behaviour for a healthy grizzly; but the bottom line with any bear is that the only thing you can really predict about them is their unpredictability...
  17. Me with my new CR500 in 1994: ...and yes, it was a beast....
  18. I loved flying with EVA and did so for 13 years, all in premium economy save for when I could upgrade to business - I tried to book again last year but couldn't get the return trip to work and when I finally phoned them to ask why I was told about the switch to 787's and no more premium economy from YVR. You can fly PE from Seattle as EVA are still using 777's on this route, but then that means another flight from YVR to Seattle, border crossing, etc....mind you, it's all academic at this point, who knows when we can start flying to SE Asia again? I found premium economy with EVA to be much better than the same with Cathay Pacific.
  19. I flew YVR-TPE premium economy with EVA on the 747 for years - once I was able to upgrade to business class which was in the upper deck at that time and it was wonderful - I sat in a rear row and was the first passenger off the whole plane when we landed. Then they reconfigured the interior and business class was in the front, with the top deck being made economy - couldn't figure this out as it is definitely nicer flying up there. A couple of years ago they changed this route to the 777, and then as of February this year they are flying the 787 instead and have done away with premium economy, having room only for economy and business which is why I booked Cathay Pacific instead for my last trip, although I ended up going back to North America on Korean Airlines, thanks to Covid....I do miss the old 747...
  20. You are indeed an optimist and I wish you the very best in your endeavours...
