  1. Breathing a sigh of relief that I factored in the possibility of a train strike, booking my Thailand flight next month. Fly on October 4th, but travelling down to London on the train on the 3rd. As if by magic a stike has been called for Oct 4th!!!
  2. I'd strongly suggest you investigate his 4 American recordings albums, Hurt was on the last one of 4. All our brilliant. if you are not familair with them I'm envious as you are a Cash fan you are in for a treat
  3. Reading the above it would seem he did. Your supposition might well be right. Not that any of us know anything for sure!!!
  4. Roast chicken for yesterday's Sunday lunch, was fabulous. Not so easy to find a decent roast dinner these days.
  5. You more than deserve a break with all the effort you've put in to the weight loss. Met a chap in a pub in Bridlington of all places the other week who had a knee replacement. An echo of yourself, in his 70s he was delighted and said it had given him a new lease of life!!
  6. Classic Czech brewed lager on a gorgeous late summer's evening.
  7. Had the same in my old blighted corner North London. Came into the local Moons, were laughed out the place in seconds. Saw the grown ups many times. Would swoop on the Moons that the weakest managers/no Landlord. And then try it on massively, trying to scam there way to free drinks and food. Put in confusing orders, intimidate the staff. Horrible predatory scum. Edit: Nothing like the quality tourists you get in LOS😇 Apologies for the huge off-topic!!
  8. Pub as a school kid, but was under age and sick🤢 Club and forum never. Have done "well" in recent years getting banned by several online bookies- do virtual veunes count?
  9. You can get a 30 day SIM from AIS for 899 THB https://www.ais.th/esim-traveller/#/mealdetail?areaId=56&utm_source=sem&utm_medium=paid&utm_campaign=esim_sep23&utm_term=esimmain&cid=sem-esim_sep23-esimmain Doubt you'll go through 50GB of data. I pay a £10 a month for 20GB of daya in the UK and never go through that,or come anywhere close for that matter. Seems an odd choice to be dicking around trying to get on Wifi in bars and hotels for a month for the sake of saving £20. I'll use Bolt a fair bit. Just being able to use a ride hailing app alone would save me over £20 over a month easily
  10. Thanks, was aware of this book, Added to my shopping list!
  11. I love the small window when you catch up with me age wise😉 All the best my friend, sound advice from Krapow. All pulling for you on here.
  12. A new author for me that I've only just starting reading. Georgoe Pelecanos, one of the writers on the Wire so that hooked me in. Stunned his books get so many mixed reviews on goodreads, so of these guys must be too tied up in their own predjuices. I'll go with Stephen King who loves him!
  13. As a postcript, this was briliant. I'd highly recommend it.
  14. Sorry to hear of your Mum's passing. I lost my Mum to 4 years back, she had dementia in her later years, and passed away in a care home. Like your situation care at home had just become impossible. I can see the love and happiness in the photos. Can't wish for anymore than that.
  15. I'd totally agree on that as a first time visit there as a tourist in Jan. Small nondescript bars competing on sound level, and that awful communal toilet block you have to pay to use. Danny's Sports Bar was the only exception. Sound system is brilliant, watched a footie game when he had the volume up. A packed bar with a brilliant atmosphere, couldn't hear any of the noise from the other bars.
  16. Pleased to pick this one up at a bargain price from a charity shop. Story set during Syria's civil war. Has started well, find I'm having to concentrate to remember the Syrian characters names( no bad thing)
  17. I know it's off-topic but how long does a UK passport renewal take?
  18. Another vote for the DG from me. The rooms in the older back building are my preference as quiter and away from the main drag. Which rooms they are isn't made clear on booking, Top tip, the rooms that are described as Grand in the room name, are the in the new building and are the ones that can be on Soi 4 and therefore with traffic noise, I personally avoid booking them. I hate hotel breakfasts and never bother with them, so their absence doesn't phase me as there's food everywhere in that part of town. But sure many of the hotels that @Stillearly mentioned will be just fine. One of the joys of Thailand that hasn't changed compared to the UK is the choice of great hotels for every budget.
  19. Both looks fantastic, presentation is excellent like a decent restaurant!
  20. I've regained top place by inertia- flying high like Brighton with the likely end result😀
  21. Fair enough🙂 I'll keep searching then for the Thermae discount card
  22. Thought your account may have been hacked till I saw your were posting subsequently on the FF thread!!
  23. I'd guess the same. Watched his YT series on running and setting up bar in during the darkest part of lockdown. It was clear that in terms of running the bar he did everything by the official rule book, all licences in place and all rules followed. He was aware that not everyone did this, but his choice.
  24. Bargain. Read them as a teenager thought they were briliant. Coincidentally bought a set in a charity shop last year but never got around to reading them before moving home. Off they all went back to the same charity shop with lots of my other belongings!!
