It is there, to protect honest diplomats (does such a critter really exist?) from abuse and worse from some less than polite and friendly governments. Unfortunately, the system is rather widely abused. And the abuse is facilitated by some governments which should know better.

It is a lottery, but in this case the losers are picked, not the winners.

The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution reads: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." I don't have any problem whatsoever with a well regulated militia, but I do have a serious problem with individual citizens going rogue. Apart from that, I will uphold "The Right To Arm Bears".

It is over 20 years already since I first heard of the Japanese rule of fours: Four inches, four minutes, four thousand baht. That was in the time that a BF was 200 baht and I paid one thousand baht LT (plus breakfast if she wanted it, offered in the morning, wasn't mentioned in the deal). And I still stick to the Dutch rule of ones: One foot, one night, one thousand baht 😉
