  1. Is that The Westin Grand Sukhumvit in the background? The place with the rooftop bar? We are staying there Feb 3rd/4th to see Coldplay.
  2. Where will this be if you don't mind me asking? Living in a nice condo instead of a shantytown does not sound too bad for me, unless there are other reasons that you don't want to talk about here....which I understand. All the best to you in either case huh..
  3. Not sure EXACTLY what this was last night but..it was good. Vegetables of many kinds I think.
  4. Wifey and I both have health coverage through "AIA" here....I can attest to the fact that in Jan 2016 when I got it, there was no "waiting period" at all. Got a physical here the following week, and have continued to do so every Jan when here.
  5. Last night, Tilapia with Fried Rice. Am kind of surprised how good the Tilapia is here. Very well priced too at The Gourmet Market here.
  6. Good thread, some great reads here to see how everyone that is currently retired are doing, how they got there and their decision to pull the trigger when they decided to do it. In my case, I did 38 years in “Tech” in Silicon Valley. Worked in Marketing, got to do quite a few trips to Asian countries over my time. Japan, Taiwan, Malaysia. Philipines and Thailand was where I visited the most. 13 years at “Intel” and that is where I met wifey back in 1999 as we opened a “Sales/Marketing Support” office here in Bangkok. Worked for some good companies and some bad ones over the years. Like alot of you have said, I kind of miss the “camaraderie” amongst friends you have met and I met quite a few nice people over my time. But…when a few of us reached 55 years old, my best friends and I, at a boys night out one evening for dinner/drinks, we all reached the conclusion that the long hours, the long phone calls to Asia, not getting out of the office until 7:00pm at times, getting to the gym at 8:00pm for a 1 hour workout was taking a toll on all of us, and this kind of pace at that age was not sustainable. I decided that i was going to give it 5 more years, and at age 60, 7 years ago, called it a career. Certainly, having an opportunity to give marriage a second try was a big factor and thankfully has worked out quite nicely. Moving here to Thailand, has been fun, some challenges, but I am happy here and wifey has made it easy for me to be successful and the transition has gone smoothly. After spending 4 years with her back in Calif recently, I look back on the time that I had to “commute” from my home, seeing Hwy 101 and Hwy 85 and I just don’t know how I did it. Complete gridlock in the city now… I will never be bored, I am just not that type and always have things that I do and like to do. Yes there are some “slow days” in retirement, but not many, as neither of us are the “sit at home types” with our phones in our faces all day or laptop you know. Got out at a good time, sure I probably could have done it sooner, but am loving this lifestyle…. both my kids both got their degrees, are successful and I don’t have to worry about them at all and they don’t need my help at all…financially or otherwise… Looking forward to continue to work on my health and staying financially strong are big priorities for us these days.
  7. @Pumpuynarak I hate young guys, they have better cars then most of us.....my Son's Benz....it's not fair LOL! Your Son will "score" driving that baby around...Audi makes a great product these days...real popular in USA.
  8. Dam Gord, is it normal even in your area to get this much snowfall this early in October? Get me a "prozac" I would be depressed LOL!
  9. Just got an e-mail from Wells Fargo, confirmed for $37.06, money is on its way here. Cool..
  10. Sad day for Thailand indeed. Been there many times....wifey tells me he has "issues" Was involved in video games that depict shooting etc with friends.
  11. In my opinion, the greatest live album ever recorded.....1977 Wind and Wuthering Tour Winterland. I was there....it was fabulous to say the least. You spelled "genisis" wrong....Genesis, I am always here to help LOL!
  12. I get a bottle of " White Zinfandel" from the liquor store here at Promenade Mall downstairs, no price increase at all. Still 1,400 baht per bottle.....I treat myself to one bottle per month
  13. Admiring our purchases from yesterday. Mega Mall Bangna for dinner and saw The Expendables movie last night. Sportsworld on the bottom floor had an end of summer sale...we can never resist these, this time was no different LOL! We both picked up some new running shoes that were on sale, she got the New Balance Fuelcell and I got the Adidas 4D Fusio's. Picked up a new pair of weight lifting gloves too. Today is jogging day.
  14. Just put in another request to Wells Fargo, if it gets to $37, will pull the trigger on more money to be sent here.
  15. Last night here in Minburi, on wifey's balcony. 6:30pm a nice sunset...
  16. Well Steve, what a dirtbag this gal is, especially knowing full well her husband has a medical condition like he has. Complete ass-wipe in my opinion. Good riddance to her at some point hopefully.
  17. So Steve, what is your wife's overall suggestion to you for this problem? What is her opinion?
  18. @Golfingboy Yep, Polly Klaus, the usual lifelong criminal( s) Richard Allen Davis STILL on death row. Took her right out of her home in Petaluma, Calif. Everyone in Calif was on this story back in the day. I just cannot imagine having your 12 year old Daughter taken by a creep like this....but sadly it happens. I wish I could get 20/20 here in Thailand, but Truevision does not have it, great stories/reports coming from them.
  19. Same here Cliff, I always take the option too of "pay when you arrive" just to hold the booking with a credit card. Like Phuket coming up over the holidays, I used "Booking.Com" as I am now at " level 2 genius" status. Never had a problem either but...you never know. Called the hotel directly and all is well.
  20. Next stop $37 perhaps? Seems to me that the peak stays at 36 for a while, then retreats back to the 35 range...we'll see.
  21. Luckily, have never had back pain, but a buddy of mine has had it a long time. Tells me he had a hot tub installed at the house and 30 minutes at night time really helps.
  22. @galenkia Ok Alan, what exactly is Dal Makhani? Never heard of it before.
  23. Uh oh, showing my age here.....I think I was 12 years old living in LA when "Lost in Space" came out. I also think I had my first "erection" seeing Angela Cartwright, aka Penny Robinson who was 15 at the time. Just absolutely remember getting " geeked up" as this was a prime time show at night every week. I actually wrote here at the studio too....3 weeks or so later, I got this 5x7 picture of her in the mail and she wrote " Mike, thanks for watching Lost in Space, love Angela" I am pretty sure she really wrote this to me too LOL! She is 71 years old now. I can hear the Robot when I am in Pattaya down WS coming up on me and saying "Warning, Warning, Yessongs Danger, Danger, Bar Fines are now 2k and LT is now 6k...go back to your loom" Oh the pain, the pain LOL!
