Bars with "upstairs" areas...Are the areas ever used?.

Some bars have the option of an upstairs area, but leaving aside those with specific areas that are actually used for a reason, like Kink, I'm on about bars which have them just for "extra seating / capacity".

For example, how many here ever sat upstairs on the Mezzanine in Bamboo?. Same applies to Hooters, Mulligans, the short lived "Assienda Bar" run by Nick Dean on Pothole. or the upstairs area in Beer Hub, to name but a few. It seems to initially be a good idea, and another example from years ago are Planet Rock (3 floors) and Mistys, again, the upstairs soon went from seating into a dusty storage area. Never used. In fact, I never saw the upstairs area in Mistys when it was on Soi 15 ever occupied by customers.

How many bars have you been directed to the upstairs to purely on a capacity basis?. For me, one, which was the music bar on Walking Street on the left. Pre covid it was empty  most nights, these days it's a struggle to get seated. Good on them too, it offers good music and reasonably priced drinks and the crowd are great, and just enjoying the moment.

It might appear that the owners over estimate the seating needed which translates into potential revenue per table, so 2 floors with 30 tables = X amount of revenue at capacity, but neglect to realise that the place will never be at capacity apart from perhaps one or two nights per year. Doing sums on that basis is a sure fire route to failure. We always opted for "double your expenses and halve your revenue" approach and then ran the numbers again and again (but not on about bars in our case).

If you had a single unit Beer bar, or even a double unit, what would you use the upstairs area for?.

In the nineties there was "Nice with Ice" in Soi Post Office (near but not quite on the corner with Second Road) where upstairs was used for a bar where you could get a blow job.

 

In Soi Diamond there was Starlight Beer Bar, the owner had an idea to start a go go upstairs, never happened, was just storage the few times I got a look. Later he started Diamond A Go Go.

Nice with ice was indeed near to the PO, along with Pumpstation which also had an upstairs. The upstairs areas were for a specific purpose though, one which myself and former FLB forum member "Gman" went into for a "hot and cold Blowjob session.

He basically ordered 2 girls each, we sat there while one drank a hot cup of tea, and the other ice cold coke, and alternated between the two. It was a bit tight, so we had to sit two spaces apart, which was fine by me because he had an absolute monster of a penis, compared to mine.

King kong was a lesson in balance. If the fucking staircase didn't kill you, the concrete bed base did for your knees or shins, depending upon height.

However, I'm on about the useless seating areas in many bars which were once destined to be Customer areas, rather than places that BM's have managed to dispense of their juice into willing and able young ladies.

I have many fond memories of the upstairs area in Hot and Cold. I was sad when they moved to the new location with no upstairs area. That sadness turned to bafflement when the owner decided to install a picture window giving full view to those walking by outside of the ladies doing the pole shuffle and of the customers within.

There was also the agogo bar on WS whose entrance was off to the side of one of the beer bar complexes. Forget the name, but they advertised themselves as the world's smallest agogo. And that they were. But what distinquished them from the others, besides the small size, was the upstairs with a transparent floor where the ladies danced naked. Made for good viewing for those that sat downstairs.
