  1. That will help keep the imported sand in place.
  2. There were still a number of concrete skeletons scattered around BKK, KL and other cities following the Asian economic collapse even ten years later. While many have disappeared through eventually being completed or being torn down they served as a reminder for some. This may happen to Pattaya and other place like Phuket when the money dries up suddenly.
  3. Wasn't that the original corner bar location, across the road. It relocated following an ownership change and the obvious challenge of the landlord's intent. I think
  4. Unless I 'm seriously mistaken, that is not Mr Egg. Unless that is the reason for his sudden absence. Hope all is good Phil.
  5. I would recommend you keep away from large parts of Australia, especially the northern bits, for all but the cooler months. That is the temperature range we get a lot of the year, some paces are humid, others less so. I don't mind the temperature, it is the humidity that gets me. I will admit I slow down when it gets over 38. Now if you talk about the cold, I have trouble with that.
  6. I agree we have handled the initial crisis well thanks to the states doing what the federal government wouldn't, however, don't get me started on the vaccine. The roll out has been shambolic thanks to the federal government's inability to tell anyone what is going on, they rival the Thai government for incompetence.
  7. Where are you referring to? Here in planet Perth (Australia) we will be able to go to pub, if we chose to do so, next week following a sudden lockdown following the first locally acquired case of covid in over a year. In other parts of the country there are large sporting events (70k + ) and open pubs. While I am required to wear a mask till Saturday following the lockdown, it is annoying to wear at work. Take aways from bottle shops (off licences )have been available through out the lockdown as it is considered food here.
  8. Mate, time to have a discussion with you phone provider about their level of service. Are you with Optus?
  9. Martin told me that during some quiet nights this represented as much as 10% of takings.
  10. Given the age demographic of this forum, most of us would qualify on age for the vaccine and in most countries we would get it for free. Whether the Thai authorities will accept our vaccination certificate is another story and whether the numbers of people are prepared to get into those flying petri dishes is another story. So which dens of iniquity are open? And has price of a Baht bus changed?
  11. That is because the sound of washing machines passes for music in those venues.
  12. Looks like Brooklyn Diner is gone. Good luck in whatever you do in the future manfred. Brooklyn Diner Pattaya 18 hrs · Dear Friends and Customers We regret to announce that Brooklyn Diner is no longer Open for business and is now up for Sale. We would like to take this opportunity to Thank all of you that have supported us during our time and we hope that a new Owner is found and will continue what we have created. 13. I love the heat, although I start to slow down at about 37C and the low 40's we get in summer can be unpleasant especially if I need to do physical work. Needless to say I drink a lot of water in the warmer weather, 5-10 litres a day is not uncommon. The cold does horrible things to me anything below 15C is unpleasant. Humidity tends to knock me about more than it used to. My current job has me outside in all sorts of weather. Spent several hours standing in the wind and rain on successive days last week, which confirmed my opinion, several simple movements were painful. It takes a lot to warm up and get movement back.
  14. Good to see there is a maintenance depot in the plan. They will need somewhere to park the trams while they wait for the parts no-one thought to order or keep in stock.
  15. Looks like Feb 13 will happen in a month or two. Just in time for the end of the wet season.
  16. Not many visitors, that is for citizens and people with an appropriate visa. Mostly people arriving on repatriation flights. The borders are currently closed, although the federal government are pushing to change this. Those escaping the floating petri dishes (cruise ships) also had to go through quarantine before being escorted to planes going to their home countries or states often to go through quarantine again. There was a major outbreak as a result of guests from a cruise liner, Ruby Princess, being allowed ashore in January/February (?) resulted in over 30 deaths and literally hundreds of cases around the world as they were allowed to get on planes. Given the total death toll in Australia is now at 102, that is a significant %.
  17. Currently 2 weeks isolation in a hotel on arrival in Oz, at the government's expense. You are not allowed out of your room, they jailed one bloke for breaking that a couple of weeks ago. If you arrive in the wrong city, it could mean a second 2 weeks if you have to go to a different state, although this is slowly being lifted. In the state I live in (Western Australia), there are regional restrictions on top of closed state borders. Sometimes I have to go through police roadblocks to get to where I am working on a given day.
  18. Keep being the good guy and you'll have a full house soon.
  19. Happy birthday Phil. Hope you had a great day and a serene year.
  20. That is odd. Companies refusing to accept money for a bill. It is not as if we are looking at money laundering here.
  21. Good thing tourism is way down. No-one around to tell their friends how bad things are.

If Mike, Dave and John go out, they will affectionately refer to each other as Fat Boy, Crazy and Wildman. EATING OUT When the bill arrives, Mike, Dave and John will each throw in £20, even though it's only for £32.50. None of them will have anything smaller and none will actually admit they want change back. When the girls get their bill, out come the pocket calculators. NATURAL Men wake up as good-looking as they went to bed. Women somehow deteriorate during the night. OFFSPRING Ah, children. A woman knows all about her children. She knows about dentist appointments and romances, best friends, favourite foods, secret fears and hopes and dreams. A man is vaguely aware of some short people living in the house. THOUGHT FOR THE DAY A married man should forget his mistakes. There's no use in two people remembering the same thing forever!
  23. @Skalliwag Are you still with us? Pattaya: "Scallywag" neighbor had a little too much to drink at New Year - result was death https://forum.thaivisa.com/topic/1141668-pattaya-scallywag-neighbor-had-a-little-too-much-to-drink-at-new-year-result-was-death/
