lazarus
Here in the USA outdoor recreation & RVs are more popular than ever. Covid has created an entire class of people who live on wheels. The rich live well on wheels wherever they go... & the poor...well...they just live on the street. I'll add a bit of what I'm seeing around my city and on the interweb. But first...a fun little blast from the past when women knew what to do while men BBQ'd. 🙂 Edited August 21, 2021 by lazarus 3
lazarus
Fast forward...2021...homelessness, addiction and plague. ☠️ RVs parked on the street...many lost souls with no where to go. Edited August 21, 2021 by lazarus
Glasseye
Love the decor (both old and new). I wonder which ones smell the worst ? 5555555555555555
Glasseye
Addiction running rampant. Hopelessness beyond comprehension. And inept, corrupt, ignorant government. Criminal media and ignorant FB robot voters. Honestly.... I see no real potential for things to improve, probably in my lifetime. That is why I will be bailing out of here as soon as possible. I hope to get a van at some point and fit it out. But I won't be staying anywhere near those unfortunate souls. And it will be a secondary hangout, not my primary residence. Stay small, stay comfortable, stay safe, and stay flexible - is my motto.

Yep. US is going to hell in a hen basket. 🐥 California's been sliding into the ocean for years. I like this size. Being a big guy I need a little room to stretch out. With gas at $4-5/gallon I'd find a nice spot to park it and relax.

Once the luck is gone & the mind follows... anything can happen.... just a little worse in the time of plague 2021. The occupant stuck his head out at one point to speak with the city worker. Looked one half rat. 🐀 He's been parked squatting there - a major thoroughfare -- for at least a week. Probably why he got away with it. Nobody gives a shit as there's hundreds like it parked around the city (in allowed areas). Smelled like Patpong 2 early in the morning...really bad. In this photo you can just see the red trailer in the left center: Edited August 22, 2021 by lazarus

Cuz face it.... Most days we typically switch between the couch and the bed for - reading, t.v. watching, and computer. Whatever I end up with I need a comfortable primary nest spot (couch type or good quality recliner situation) that I can test out and make sure I am comfortable with over a period of a few hours. Butch
To be honest, at $20k or so, if someone already had a vehicle to tow and hook up to it, something like that could probably pay for itself after a year if you lived in it full time. It's not exactly cramped, offers decent accomodation, as good as any Condo might with the added bonus of mobility. Would it be possible to find an area, park up and just live there for weeks on end without any hassle?. Edited August 22, 2021 by Butch

Glasseye
I remember back in the 60's my family did a lot of road trips (both short and long). Looking back actually it kind of amazes me how many miles (and hours) we put on the road when I was a kid. So, when driving it was always cool (and a break from the extreme boredom) to see an Airstream. Even Dad would get a little excited. I don't know how many times I heard him say, "Oh wow, those Airstreams are by far the best." or "Man, I'd really like to get one of those Airstreams".

Lots of people doing it...not just for leisure but also as migrant workers.
andyajn
I've just spent a couple of weeks in Scotland. The place is wall to wall motorhomes. A real pain on Scottish roads.

A good solid baseball bat near by. Could always have a Remington .12 gauge, and a Glock .40 tucked away in a hidden compartment in case some anti-vaxxer zombie happened to stumble into your area. Absolute heaven IMO.

Glasseye
I still think I can find a very good, reasonable miles, good condition Toyota (full size) van for around $10 k. Have fitted out nicely for $10-15 k (in Thailand, labor is a fraction of what it is in the West.). I think going that route compared to some of these new fangled jobs that are going for over $100 k is very doable - and could be close in comparison in quality.
