Golfingboy
This awful event has slipped my mind, happened a 3 hour drive from where I live in Montreal, but at the time I was 2,500 miles away. Basically a series of errors led to an unmanned train carrying explosive material, accelerating until it derailed and blew up, which happened to be smack dab in the middle of the Main Street of a small town. 47 people(at least) perished, one I remember was a kind waitress who was bored and decided to come in on her night off and help rolling up napkins- when your time’s up, it’s up…… Awful tragedy, hope the rail industry learned a thing or 2 https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lac-Mégantic_rail_disaster Edited July 6, 2023 by Golfingboy
forcebwithu
The Lac-Megantic derailment was in the news after the 3 February East Palestine, OH derailment. Sadly the answer is no, we haven't learned a thing or 2. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2023_Ohio_train_derailment "A recurring theme from her appearances is that the nation has, for decades, in the name of profits over people, continued to put off necessary infrastructure improvements, tighter regulations and better response to protect the health, safety and welfare of communities from long-term bodily harm and environmental damage. Brockovich continues to cite the Hinkley case and Flint water crisis, as well as the 2013 Lac-Megantic, Canada oil train catastrophe." 3
