I am mid way in redecorating inside. It is at Rung Arun Village just behind Hoepro opposite Lotus in Huathalae. Providing an agreement on price can be reached we will throw in a new us style fridge, quality master bedroom furniture from Major, a TV washing machine (front loader) gas hob. Water filters, pump, italian sofa the list is huge. How about I send you a few photos?

Cheers

So yesterday whilst wading through our lawn, I said "OK with such a lack of gardening services in Korat, I will do it myself. Never mind the 41 degree temperatures" so I set off strimming the edges and difficult places. After about 20 minutes the strimmer died. Not the batteries which were fully charged, the motor had overheated and cut out. Tried reviving it but it was dead. Had to go out and buy a new one.

This new house is costing me greatly!

@ThaiTim

Wifey's just spoken to him and given him your wifey's name and Tel No and requested that he call her.

Hi Pumpuinarak, sadly we sat and waited, day after day, nothing. In the end I flashed up my brand new strimmer (after nearly killing myself trying to start it until I found the bright red on/off switch. ) I have to say I am glad I am not a hairdresser but at least you can now see the ground. OK more so in some places than others but........

Seeing as how it only took me about 30 minutes to slash (as opposed to cut) the grass I feel very proud. I even discovered that due to the wonders of physics and modern design I don't have to stop the machine to extend the nylon cutters. Oh joy!

Well our gardener told my wifey that he's been in contact with your wifey and she's even sent him pictures of your garden...................hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Your builder has been in touch with my wifey and he's going to come round and look at the work on a date to be arranged.

I believe that there is quite a crossing of lines but thanks anyway. Now I know how to use the strimmer and start it I am OK now. I can only improve with time and practice. Glad the s son got in touch, I gently reminded him a few days ago that my good friend... etc . He does do a pretty good job and for sure if there is anything you are not happy with let me know. He doesn't like it when I get "grumpy".

How do you feel about catching up for a coffee some time? We can travel.

Thanks for your help its appreciated. We will do that, i'll PM you 👍 I've got quite a few jobs that have built up over time as the house is now 17 yo some quite substantial, problem that continually arises is builders are not interested in renovation/refurb only new build.

I like to think i'm a reasonable guy but i like work done to an acceptable standard which is not easy to achieve here in Isaan ime. I like the look of the work that you have had completed so maybe your son/builder and i could both be happy, me getting a good job done and your son/builder earning good dosh, win win.

Our gardener is doing our garden on Thursday this week so i'll get wifey to chat to him again and see if we can make some progress on your requirements. What with the heat do you really want to do yourself ? ok if you can cope with it. In the UK i always maintained my garden and just had specialists come in to treat the lawn a few times a year but here in Thailand its a killer for me.

i heartily recommend the cheap balck and decker mowers.  you can adjust the height.  main thing is that in the dry season the grass hould be longer to allow it to hold a little moisture so it doesnt die.  we have a gardening team and I laid them off one week after telling them numerous times to raise the cut level.  they listen now 🙂  when we move tho, will prob NOT have that kind of service, so now pondering thru lazada looking at ride ons.  with beer can holders 🙂

I am still using a Victor Valiant mower with a Briggs and Stratton 2.5 HP engine.

It is 30 plus years old and still going strong.

Only thing it has had is a couple of new spark plugs.

In H.S. we took a tour of the B&S assembly plant in Milwaukee. It was an interesting tour. Saw first hand every step of the assembly process, including the QC done on a random selection of the completed engines.

What struck home with me from that tour is seeing the men and women on the assembly line, doing the same task over and over again until the end of their shift. Kudos to those that can do that, and it's an honest days work for a living, but it's not a job I could ever do.

It's always interesting to see manufacturing plants.

I have seen many and one thing that is common with engine assembly, is it is often labour intensive.

Usually an assembly line where many people are lined up and have just one specific job. It is repetitive, but generally pays a decent wage to people that otherwise have no skills to earn a living.

Over the years where cost and speed became an issue, these mundane jobs have been replaced with a robot.

Now you have my undivided attention, beer holders indeed!

Thanks for the heads up re length of grass v weather conditions. I have a great lawn mower (petrol) which can adjust height from almost ankle to Brazilian.
