Popular Post Jambo
During our drive down from Mae Sot on Monday we made a stop at a service station for gasoline and a coffee break. We parked in an available space not too far from the toilets and right in front of a set of three coloured waste bins. One each for general waste, bottles and plastic. It just so happened that as we parked a staff member had just wheeled her large trolly up to the bins. She then carefully emptied each bin in turn tipping the contents of each into the one and only large bin she had on the trolly. You have to laugh. 1

I would expect that the large bin on the trolly would be sorted elsewhere behind the scene. There's money to be made from the plastic bottles, cans etc and Thais don't just send "money" off to landfill.

Freee!!
Things like that happen everywhere. I happen to know about a court case here in the Netherlands against somebody who refused to separate his household waste and refused to pay the fine for that. Despite him having all necessary evidence it was all put together again, some bureaucrats decided he needed to be taught a lesson. It backfired big time when the judge saw the evidence. It made the local news paper and lots of people demanded their fines back.

Panorama on Monday showed local authorities and supermarkets doing the same ...throwing the whole lot into one great big dump.

Khun Ling
Recycling makes us feel so good/less guilty. It’s kinda like having a wank, makes you feel like you are getting it when you are not actually getting it. 1
