When you and your wife return to UK to sign the required bank documents and if you decide to fly into Eastleigh via Schiphol ( or maybe via Finland too?) make sure the connecting flight leaves from the International side of the airport. KLM UK wasn't and they insisted that she needed a Schengen visa to go between KLM arrival terminal from Bangkok to KLM UK Departure terminal to Eastleigh! See no thread f**k!

I flew out via AMS with KLM this time LBA to AMS then AMS to BKK. At no time did I have to pass through any passport control whilst at Schiphol. Even when UK was a member of the EU I do not recall any passport checks within the airport at AMS.

Yup, most airlines don't. EDIT = The solution was to have an Immigration Officer escort us between the 2 gates. Unfortunately I can't date stamp when it happened as I have forgotten which wife I was with. Derek Dangleberries
Would opening up a Transferwise account be of any use if you got all of your income paid into it? It is something I've never really considered.

I have a Wise account at present but only transfer what we need for everyday living expenses. Having all my income transferred into it direct from my pension providers is not a possibility at present due to other circumstances and my income providers will only transfer the entire amount not part of it. Sorry mate. My train of thought was ..... "what would I do if they closed my UK TSB account if they discovered I was non-resident." The only other option would be to send it all here but that would leave my sons high and dry..

I think opening a new account with another UK bank is an option as i believe not all banks are operating the non-resident clause in their T&C but i don't really want to go down that route unless forced to, i just can't be asked. Whatever i need to get back to the UK sooner rather than later but i'm only gonna do when all these Covid rules/requirements have been relaxed. So for the time being i'm stuffed but i'm gonna sort out my two Thai accounts to have wifey installed as my beneficiary so she can access legally and immediatley when i pop me clogs. All flights from Schiphol to the UK depart (and departed before Brexit) from non-Schengen terminals/gates. You either used another airline from Schiphol to Eastleigh or KLM was forced by circumstances out of KLM's control to use one of the cheap M gates, which are non-contiguous with the major part of the non-Schengen area on Schiphol. As I understand it KLM UK was an independant airline. Interestingly I also used KLM UK to Schiphol then down to an African country (travelling alone) which also gave me problems. The flight arrived late but when I went to the Tranfers desk they said that it was the incoming flight that had to re-arrange my onward flight but KLM UK didn't have a representative BUT they were willing to do it for me. I think KLM UK is now defunct so for the purposes of this thread and with the information in your post it will probably never happen again... I hope. I'm guessing now but the incident from Bangkok was with my first TW. We married in UK in 98 and it wasn't that journey so around 2000ish... EDIT = Must have been before 2000 So I'm saying 1999 .. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KLM_uk Edited November 26, 2021 by Derek Dangleberries

Yessongs
Wifey told me that because I am her "legal" husband et al in Thailand, that if she dies, I get all her assets etc, the house and all the bells and whistles and there is/was no need for me to do anything? Does that sound right? But...we did go down to Bangkok Bank where I had opened up an account prior to arrival in Jan 2016, and we had her added on. Seemed very straight forward and simple, just signed a few documents ( in English and Thai) and all is well I have been told. The Manager of that branch in Minburi where we went, I teach her Son English at the house.

BUTTTTTTT !!! ............... it's the relatives should anything happen God forbid. Like vultures and will dig up the front garden if they can. From what I understand, the spouse of the deceased will inherit all the assets without having to go through probate. There is one catch in Thailand I remember reading about and that is a non-Thai you can not own land so you'll need to sell any real estate you inherit. IIRC you're allowed a year to do that.
