forcebwithu
Before and after pictures of the Starship launch pad. The launch blasted away surface concrete and the underlying soil. They'll need to rethink their idea of no flame trench. As one commenter wrote "If you do not include a flame trench in your launch pad, the rocket will dig one for you." Quite probable the debris kicked up is what was responsible for causing the failure of six raptor engines. Wonder how close they came to debris hitting the rocket itself and causing a "rapid unscheduled disassembly" of the entire ship on the pad. Me thinks they got very lucky with the launch. fygjam
A grab from another YT vid. Are the tanks meant to have those dents in them? The vid.
forcebwithu
According to this video, a water-cooled steel plate for under the launch mount was in the works, but wasn't ready in time. They mistakenly thought the Fondag (concrete mix that can withstand chemical, mechanical and thermal attacks) could handle the launch.
Sherlock
Must be the first rocket launch to not use a tunnel/funnel/river system underneath for allowing the flame and heat to disperse quicker!!!!!
Sherlock
They say that also part of the reason some of the raptor rockets were shut down/didnt work was because of the debris kicked up from firing the rockets. They were actually quite lucky the whole thing didnt go completely tits up and explode on the pad!!!
