andycoll
Took my tablet on the morning walk today for an update. The first group of pictures is from Soi 13/4 heading North.
andycoll
As you can see, the road and grating is complete, guttering coming along slowly, beach path no action. The next group are from Big Mike to Soi 7.
andycoll
As you can see, there are 3 big holes outside Big Mike which need filling, (although there are always big holes outside there which need filling but I don't think we can blame the construction for that.) And after that it becomes varied in how far they have got to go. The next group are from Soi 7 to Soi 6.
andycoll
As you can see, they pipes are in the ground but the road, guttering and path a long way from finishing, in fact as one of the photo's show they are still digging up more road. The last photos show the digging up and crushing of the road up to Soi 3. 4
andycoll
I think we can agree that this won't be completed by tomorrow. Perhaps by Songkran. Certainly before my next trip in July.
andycoll
As an addendum to my walk.l recall back in October a news article about the electrical transformer boxes down near the pumping station needing to be moved before the construction could be completed. Well here we are 4 months on and not much seems to have been done.
john luke
Nowhere near to conclusion. Long stretches of the road surface still to be completed, let alone work below the surface which must be completed before the road surface can be completed. Also large quanitities of water which somehow will have to be drained away. 2

forcebwithu
Update on the Beach Rd drainage project. Concrete drain forms in place and ready for use on the north end. Breaking up the existing pavement is now up to Soi 2. And digging commences at Soi 3. They've tied the trees to each other to keep the ones closest to the road from toppling over due to soil erosion. This is odd. Where's the connecting drain south of Soi 6. Gutters and pavement being poured just north of Klang intersection. Turned my camera to sea and what do I see. Only two parasailers in the air this morning. South of Klang, drain covers going in. Around Soi 8, gutter work is pretty much done. With the exception of a few places where drain access points are being worked on. Boardwalk across from Mike's Mall is looking very rough and on its last legs. South of Soi 12, only the curbs need to be installed. New curbs installed up to Royal Garden Plaza. If it were me, I would have installed curbs at least twice as high to keep more of the storm water from flowing onto the footpath. At the south end, work still needs to be done to connect to the pumping station. Anyone need a used IV bag. Quite the garbage pit on the south end. No way would I want to step on this access lid. 1 1 1
Painter
Thanks, @forcebwithu, that saves me posting the pictures of almost the same that I've just taken! I am amazed at the speed they are digging and laying the pipes, but the finishing the gutters, and joining it all up seems to be taking forever! Then of course, they have to repair the pavements.... Painter
Opposite about Mike's noonish today The surface drains still dont appear to be connected to the under road drain.

Work on the mega drain under the road has reached Markland. It is about half full of water. Given the absence of rain, I'm assuming that that is caused by the water table, but would happily be corrected. There is also a lot of building rubble and other crap in it. Neither of these facts fills me with confidence that it will operate efficiently.

I'm sure once it is all connected up, a quick blast of the turbo pumps at the walking street end and all that rubbish will end up on koh larn's beaches..... Or the pumps will jam up and need replacing...
Painter
From this mornings amble along the promenade... Soi 7 ish... connecting up surface drains with underground drains... Opposite soi 10ish. Her mate's down there passing up water... I can see two possible issues here....(1) are the two "walls" supposed to meet? (2) will they remove that red road barrier or just expect it to drain with the water? And, just for the sake of it, opposite central
forcebwithu
They're now up to across from the Amari hotel breaking up the road surface for the Beach Rd drainage project. Soi 1 they've started digging. They're setting up the Soi 6 pumps again, probably not for any expected rain, but to help drain the water that has been collecting in the drains under construction. South end of Beach Rd. now getting backfilled. A few more pics of the beach. South end has new shelters for the homeless. 11:30 am and only one parasail up 3 1

john luke
The section of Beach Road working north from Hard Rock towards the Thai Airways Office. There seems an awful lot of different areas of work to be done before completion in my opinion. 2

john luke
This morning's walk took me from the Walking Street end of Beach Road to Pattaya Klang. There seems a lot to do in the immediate area of the pumping station. A few shots of the sand cleaner/sifter. By way of comment, the road appears complete with the drainage and covers in place; however the pavement is in a very poor state, with loose blocks etc. Additionally the level of the pavelement appears to be different to the level of the kerb at the road edge. This more or less applies from here to Pattaya Klang. Some work going on with the actual drainage system. 1
andycoll
I wonder when they started this if they took into account the damage it would do to the beach path. Perhaps it wasn't anticipated and therefore no plan has been put in place to repair it. No budget either. Maybe we will have to wait awhile for this to be done. I'm sure there are a few powerful people who will be happy to take this on at the right price, perhaps contract it out to a relative.?
john luke
The road works continue on Beach Road at the northern end near Thai Air Office and Dusit Thani hotel. Traffic is now building up around the corner and Beach Road runs up the hill, past the Thai Air Offices/Dusit Thani hotel.
