Pattaya and other parts of Thailand - Past and Present Visits. (Updated 20th July 2023)

Recommended Posts

Seriously, I don't understand the melancholy over MIT.

How old are we all?

I remember being broken hearted every year in the 60s when I went on holiday to Devon and falling in love with a girl. Then pretty much every year ever since!!

Just like the sexy 16 year old in caravan 103B, Red Field, will never be seen again neither will MIT. There will be other bars....there has always been other bars!

f**k Sake get over it.

Normally a good percentage of attendees to the music festival would be from Bangkok. With the continued ban on alcohol in Pattaya and the lifting of the ban in Bangkok, it'll be interesting to see how many bother making the drive down to listen to music while sipping water and soda.

The Made in Thailand Beer Bar Complex is due to close, at least in part.  Some work seems to be going on in the area furthest away from Second Road, (unless this is just a salvaging exercise); anyway this is what it looks like today.

Yes - that looks like salvaging to me. Plenty of stuff there can be sold or reused.

The 'Dusit Thani' end of the beach is dominated by the preparations for the music festival which will be ongoing this evening and tomorrow evening.  Moving along towards Sri 6.  I may be wrong but I think a number of additional pumps have been installed on Beach Road.  I have no idea who the lady in the last photograph and the second from last photograph is.  She shouts loudly in Thai.  Any ideas please?

There are only a few premises open in Soi 6 that are open.  There seems a couple of bars that have now become coffee shops plus I think a general store and a few hairdressers.  The photographs here are mainly HDR shots of the varied signs of the bars.  Perhaps it equates to the 'rose sunglasses syndrome'.  The Queen Victoria is still operating and offering meals from breakfast through to dinner.  Some interesting 'For Sale/Rent' boards.

Same number of pumps near Soi 6, but they've upgraded them to shinny, new models some months ago.

What is new is a portable generator near Soi 12. That appeared after the flooding last month. There's quite a flood of water that rushes down Soi 12 and the Soi 13's. Thinking the portable generator is there to power additional submersible pumps that will be brought in when needed.

The shouting, crazy lady has been a regular around Pattaya for years. Saw her quite often along Buakhao, but suspect she's now living it rough along Beach Rd.

A bit of a disappointing evening.  Went to Yayoi in Terminal 21 for dinner and found it was raining heavily at the time we were leaving.  Waited a short time in Terminal 21 and eventually the rain stopped.  Walked down to Beach Road; persuaded two police officers to let me through a barrier to take a couple of photographs of one of the illuminated stages.  After that could not get anywhere near the stages so ended up with just a few night shots of the food stalls and other items on Beach Road.

Hope the rain didn't put people off attending.  It's usually a good night.

Yes, it's used to be all weekend.  Massive screens and stages especially at Bali high. I would usually take company for the weekend to attend. Happy memories for sure.

News reported there was an hour delay for the start of the music. Video also of attendees leaving the stage area seeking cover from the rain.

Seeing JL's pictures of the vendors I'm reminded of how dependent these hard working people are on these festivals and the visitors they bring to Pattaya. Hope the turnout is good for this one, and the ones to follow.

As an aside. I keep this radar loop URL bookmarked on my phone. Very handy when out and about to see if there is bad weather approaching the area, and gauging how long it might last. Could see last night's storm approaching and that it would be an intense, but short lived one.

Not great pictures, but that was the 'level' of crowd;  walking along without question came within 2 metres of other people but did not physically bump into or actually come into physical contact with anyone else.  Totally different to the Firework displays and New Years Eve/day.  Sorry for quality of pictures above; it had rained and road surface was wet; the air was very humid too, and you can see haze around any bright lamps.
