Actor Bernard Hill, best known for roles in Titanic and Lord of the Rings, has died aged 79.

He played Captain Edward Smith in the 1997 Oscar-winning film.

Another prominent role was as King Théoden in the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

His breakout role was as the Yosser Hughes character in the iconic 1980s drama series Boys from the Blackstuff.

His agent Lou Coulson confirmed to BBC News that he died in the early hours of this morning.

Loved that series.

One of my favourite scenes included Graeme Souness . . There was another 1 or 2 players in that scene, can't remember who else . .

British Olympic swimming champion David Wilkie has died at the age of 70.

The Scot won 200m breaststroke gold in Montreal in 1976, as well as two Olympic silver medals and three world titles.

His family released a statement saying: "It is with great sadness that the family of David Wilkie MBE announce that he died peacefully surrounded by his family this morning, following his brave battle with cancer."

I read recently that 1 in 2 people born after 1960 are expected to be diagnosed with cancer.

My family has been devastated by it, losing both my parents and sister all in their 50’s. It’s a c**t of a disease.

Suddenly I feel really old.

So many people live on junk food these days it’s no wonder people are dying young from cancer.

My family ate healthy but it just seems a genetic fault in my bloodline.

Grayson Murray, who won his second PGA TOUR title at this year’s Sony Open in Hawaii, passed away Saturday.

"We were devastated to learn – and are heartbroken to share – that PGA TOUR player Grayson Murray passed away this morning. I am at a loss for words,” PGA TOUR Commissioner Jay Monahan said. “The PGA TOUR is a family, and when you lose a member of your family, you are never the same. We mourn Grayson and pray for comfort for his loved ones.

He had issues with depression and alcohol... suicide apparently , only 30
