If he was a football manager he'd have been sacked ages ago. One win in the last 14 test matches is fucking abysmal. Let's see who they go for now. Should never have changed the old style selection committee and sacked Ed Smith. Too much say from Giles and Silverwood.

Root is not a tactically good enough captain so that needs sorting as well. Whole system and hierarchy is a fucking mess.

Langer resigns from Australia, though contract was due to expire in June, and apparently CA wanted to offer him a short term extension.

Looks like he could be heading to England as Andrew Strauss wants him as first choice on the list of next coach.

Should make him red ball coach and let him sort out the mess that is rather than over burdening him with the white ball squad as well. Sri Lanka consultant coach Jayawardene has been mentioned a bit regarding white ball options. Very highly regarded for his tactical knowledge.

Seems England are set on separate coaches for red and white anyway from the murmurs coming out of the ECB.

England out for 189 so recovered well from the poor start. The lad Rew unlucky not to get his century getting caught on 95.

Hopefully can get early wickets to take the pressure off a bit.

Yep, looking like  220-30 till the wheels came off...but at least something decent to bowl at thanks to the two lads Rew and Sales... nice early wicket too

Pakistan PSL T20 competition has been running last couple of weeks or so, and Jason Roy is currently batting. Just hit a 49 ball century. Partnered with James Vince at the moment.

Starts around 2.30pm each afternoon so get back from work for most of the first inning's.

Been some great matches.

Stumbled across it yesterday afternoon, and caught Roy's brilliant innings from around the 40,s onward. They were some decent bowlers he was facing too.

More lunacy from the home of English cricket.

Broad and Anderson both not selected for the West Indies Test matches. Batsmen not scoring runs, Archer injured, Wood, unfortunately not made of teak, but made of glass, Robinson not a good deal better. So let's drop our 2 most experienced bowler's with nearly 1200 Test wickets between them!.

We have won a grand total of one Test series in the Caribbean since 1968, so expect that statistic to stay unchanged at the end!.

New faces, same end result.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/cricket/2022/02/09/joe-root-bat-no-3-england-against-west-indies-asking-move-order/

Joe Root will move up the order to No 3 to reboot his captaincy as England look ahead without James Anderson and Stuart Broad.

By removing Anderson and Broad it allows Root more room to breathe as Test captain and stamp his authority on this side, although he has had ample opportunity to do that over the past five years.

Sir Andrew Strauss on Wednesday insisted that James Anderson and Stuart Broad were left out for cricketing reasons and that there is “life after them” as he explained the post-Ashes cull.

Anderson and Broad were dropped for the West Indies tour with Strauss adamant the decision had nothing to do with personalities but a desire to develop younger bowlers.

Root sees this as the restart of his captaincy and told Strauss he will move up the order to No 3 despite just enjoying a record-breaking year for an England batsman at No 4.

“One of the very important points to make is one of the first things that Joe Root said in the selection meeting was that he’s very keen to bat three going forward, and as a result of that, that obviously allows us to potentially tackle that top-order problem which has been a thorn in our side for a long time now,” said Strauss.

“With Joe moving up, it obviously creates space for some of the slightly less experienced players to get a slot in that middle order. So there’s going to be a little bit of a rejig in that batting line-up as well as obviously one or two new faces.”

Strauss spoke to Anderson and Broad in turn on Tuesday after a five-hour selection meeting and described the conversations as “very hard” but necessary and he hopes it will embolden Mark Wood and Chris Woakes step up and show leadership qualities.

“We see it as a strategic decision at the moment. In the end there was clarity that this was an opportunity we needed to take and that is not saying they will not feature - one or both of them - this summer,” he said. “No impression from either of them that this is the end of the road or saw it as the end of the road for them. I fully expect them to prepare themselves for the summer and put their names in the frame for selection.”

Strauss has made his mark quickly just a week into his role as interim director of cricket. Leaving out Anderson and Broad was the most surprising decision although both knew they were vulnerable even if Chris Silverwood and Ashley Giles had remained in their jobs last week. They were criticised by Root for bowling too short in the Adelaide Test and Broad admitted fearing for his future when he was left out on seamer-friendly surfaces in Brisbane and Melbourne.

Removing them together does suggest a personality clash but Strauss was clear they have not been difficult off the field.

“It is hard to criticise either Jimmy and Broady in how they are on and off the field. They are exceptional performers on the field and they are very professional on it which is why they have played for so long,” said Strauss, who captained both players when he led England to No 1 in the Test rankings. “What I do think is that it gives an opportunity at the moment for people to stand up and play leadership roles they haven’t previously. We need a good solid spine to that team moving forward. We need leaders, not just the captain, and this provides an opportunity for some of the players to do that.”

Root averages 51 at No 4 but it drops to 38.66 at three. He has not enjoyed batting higher as captain because it does not give him enough time to switch off from fielding or the decision at the toss.

But with Alex Lees, a debutant, opening the innings with Zak Crawley, who is only two Tests into his comeback, and England’s long-term batting problems, Root will move up. Jonny Bairstow did not enjoy No 3 when he did it for the first two Tests of the last Caribbean tour, and others lack the experience batting so high. Also Root has generally been in very early on anyway when batting at four.

With Lees guaranteed to start the tour - there are no other openers in the squad - and Strauss confirming Ben Foakes as first-choice keeper, the side looks more or less settled already for the first Test in Antigua on March 8 with the only decision in the top six between Ollie Pope and Dan Lawrence.

England have beaten West Indies on their home turf just once in 54 years and neither Broad nor Anderson played in that victory in 2004 under Michael Vaughan.

Good to see Foakes as first choice keeper as he is the best man for the job. Bairstow should be a specialist batsmen as we need him to be at his best in the middle order.

No harm in trying Lees at opener as Burns and Hameed have probably had their confidence shot to pieces in Australia. Crawley probably in the last chance saloon, needs to stop living of that one innings.

Windies a struggling team at Test level so a good opportunity to get a win and some confidence back in the team.

Burns was a massive disappointment after his form in County cricket...yes, Lees deserves his shot, another tough Yorkshire man...must be all the Hovis they eat
