I thought the declaration when Root was in full flight was somewhere between rash & foolhardy.

I can see why Stokes did it, but was surprised that he did. It did make for an entertaining game, but another 30 or 40 runs might have made little difference to the entertainment,  but a huge difference to the result.

Hindsight's a wonderful thing though

Not sure my nerves can cope with another 4 tests like that... I might have to invest in a bottle of gin!

Kunts!

The chant is from the West Country and is "Oggie Oggie Oggie Oy Oy Oy"

Fucking blasphemous uneducated heathens !!!

Like the very game of cricket itself, we took it and then improved it out of sight!

In around 1982 when Pattaya bars were 24hr opening I was on the piss until sunup with a few guys & one of them was an old Aussie.I heard on the bush telegraph a few days later that he'd been trawling the bars looking to punch my lights out because I'd insulted Aussie rules football.I also heard that he was very punchy & although I was young & very fit I was never a fighter.Anyway I never saw him again. Not sure why he didn't try it when I made the supposedly derogatory comment.

On another occasion I was in BJ's around 4pm eating my breakfast & there was only me & a bloke sat the other side of the bar in there. He heard my pom accent & started giving me a load of shit.I just moved to a table well away from the wanker.

Having said that I have met some great Aussies, but they were the first two & it was not a favourable first impression.

Some UK Media reports -

afb34de9bc79dbd33cbbf3fdadb919c1c58702dc

Henry Newbolt had it right all those years ago -

"Play up! play up! and play the game!"

..

The sand of the desert is sodden red, —
Red with the wreck of a square that broke; —
The Gatling's jammed and the colonel dead,
And the regiment blind with dust and smoke.
The river of death has brimmed his banks,
And England's far, and Honour a name,
But the voice of schoolboy rallies the ranks,
"Play up! play up! and play the game!"

Not for the first time England looking like they mean to hook & pull themselves to defeat.

Thought we were doing well until Pope got out....

Question is, can Stokes and Brooks play test cricket, or will bazball cause us problems?
