  1. Good morning from the L Resort,Ao Nang. This is the view from our breakfast table on our first morning here having arrived last night after a 9 hour journey from Loei Province involving 2 flights and a minibus journey. We have my wifes brother and wife with their 2 sons with us who all experienced their first time flying. I never got around to posting while up north due to excess alcohol consumption and feeling ultra lethargic in the oppressive heat. Will try and catch up over the coming days. We are off on a long tail boat at 10 am for a 5 hr 4 Island trip.Catch you again .

  7. I'm suffering from cabin fever for the first time in at least a decade, probably two!! My sciatica kicked in before Songkran but I can now walk short distances OK. I just don't know what I want! I have all the food, snacks and drink in that I need. I have very good friends and neighbours to talk to. I have enough cash in my room to order in anything I want but I don't know what I want other than to get out and walk somewhere...anywhere !! Just as @forcebwithu said... I can't wait for the 20th to come !!

  9. The road to An Teallach, stunning scenery on the approach.Climbed the munros about 3 years ago now. An Teallach is a mountain group in Wester Ross, in the Northwest Highlands of Scotland. It lies west of Dundonnell Forest, north of Loch na Sealga, and south of Little Loch Broom. Its highest peaks are the Munros of Bidean a' Ghlas Thuill at 1062 m, and Sgùrr Fiona at 1058 m.

  15. Yes, the temperature fell to below 20C. Or, as the Thais call it, "the freezing point".

  16. Been talking with Sian recently, the lady that works in the addiction center in town. She’s the lady that spent six months counseling me when I needed help with my alcohol addiction. She is helping me with dealing with my sister’s cancer. She knows me better than anyone and all the trauma I’ve been through in my life. And she knows how fragile and damaged I am regarding my addictions and mental health. People of the older generations like us were generally not taught to talk about mental health issues, but today it’s a lot more easier to get help. So if you are struggling with mental health then reach out, there’s great support out there for you.

  19. Good point. In the 14 years I've lived in Pattaya it's been nothing like the Songkran I experienced in the villages around Thailand. What has changed is a gradual lengthening in the duration and intensity of the madness here. Shame I have to leave my home to avoid the stress of Songkran, but that's what I intend to do from now on.

  20. I see now I should have made LK Metro my destination as the I-Rovers cam shows it to be a dry oasis. Assuming this is because the business owners realize a hard stop on the water throwing is good for business, smart move on their part.

  21. I was out two nights ago and managed to not get wet after 7pm in the Buakhao area, so thought I would chance it again tonight. Big mistake. Made it from Khaos Corner to New Plaza without getting anything more than a few random sprinkles of overspray. Did a U-Turn at the top of New Plaza as I could see the water throwing was still going strong on the end closest to 2nd Rd. Then on my way back going south on Buakhao at what I now think of as the very inappropriate named Friendship Bar a Thai kid that looked all of 10 years old let lose with a stream of water from across the soi with one of those damn PVC pipes and nailed me in the face. He only got lucky with the shot because I was trapped in stalled traffic. I looked across and yelled NO which got a lot of surprised looks. WTF do they expect. It's after dark and I'm obviously trying to avoid the water by getting as far away from it as possible. Fine for those that want to play, but as has been said multiple times before, leave those that obviously want no part of it out of the madness. The 20th can't get here soon enough to put a stop to this perversion of what used to be a very respectful Thai holiday.

  28. As I have been talking about in another thread, the Thai Fiancee and I recently bought a house and had a Buddhist house blessing. The event was extended to also include an Engagement announcement celebration (her idea not mine, but no problem). 🙂 With the number of in-laws in town and also her nephew (I tied arms when he was born) requesting that I prepare a spaghetti dinner, I did so. Turned out pretty well, even though I was unprepared for the volume. There should have been a more liquid sauce. The Italian sausages were a new Calabrese variety (slightly spicy) from Jet Italian and they were great. I prepared those on the recently purchased Weber Grill. I got too much help from the Thai in-laws in starting the fire. Nuff said. The table is ready

  30. Walked into Neath for a pint. Really unusual for me to go at night but as Porn has a few Thais over, and the microphone came out, I decided it was time to leave the premises. Having a lovely pint of Titanic plum porter, beautiful. I was surprised it was on, my favourite. A couple more and I won't notice the cat being strangled when I get back lol
