V twin THE VTR1000 Firestorm.

Any of these ring a bell?.

I had one of the second generation with the slightly larger fuel tank. A friend with the first model claimed 70 mile range.

Couldn't get on with it so replaced it after 3 weeks with my first GSXR1000, a K1 model.

Word is this could be coming to Europe in the near future. ZX-4R with a four cylinder engine possibly putting out around 80bhp. Be immense if it does and ain't too expensive. Looks awesome. There's already a 250cc version on sale in Japan putting out about 53bhp but wouldn't have met Euro 5 emissions laws.

The futuristic Yamaha Niken.

I have a Yamaha Tricity scooter, which has the same style front end, it's a brilliant little bike and if you were not aware of the twin wheel front end one would think it was just a normal scooter when riding it.

Do you ride it in Thailand? I often thought it would be a good option for an 'older guy' - more stable and less chance of a slip-fall.

Yes Robert, bought it new here about 6 years ago. It's very reassuring having the twin wheels upfront after a night of heavy rain and the roads ( often on the bends ) are covered in the sand / fine soil which the water washed off of the surrounding areas.

My last ride day and last big bike - BMW S1000RR - best bike I ever rode.

Eastern Creek April2013.jpg

I'm told the S1000RR are a bloody good bike, the last, and best, road bike i had before leaving the UK was a Ducati 916SP. One of the last "superbikes" that had none of the modern electronic trickery. I bought it new, run it for almost 2.5 years ( and 22,000 miles ) and sold it back to the dealer for 500 Pounds more than i paid him for it, he sold it the very same day to another of his regular customers !!  At the time the SP's were very hard to get hold of and it was the only bike i owned, of many, which i made money on.......

The Duke 916SP was a great bike - mate had one but never let me ride it - fair enough too.  I once owned an ST4 sports tourer - great bike - rode it down to Phillip Island a couple of times.

Talking about all the electric trickery on the S1000, I had quite a moment once at an Eastern Creek track on a ride day.  I had 'sticky' road tyres on the bike (Michellin something), so I could switch the electronics from 'standard' to 'sports' which was awesome on the track - but dangerous on the roads.  One time I was riding well, so on my 3rd turn I decided to switch the electronics to 'racing'  - ignoring the warning "race tyres and skilled riders only".   I took it easy going out and it was unbelieveable - so of course I went too far. Coming up to the last corners before the long straight I decided to swing wide and take them both together and the bike was powering through in a bit of a slide , and when I got fully into the straight I decided to go full bore and break 252ks (my record). Well f me - the front well came up at and the bike took off like a scalded cat - somehow I knew to lean forward - and then I remembered to gently touch the back brake and down she came.  I went straight back into the shed (checked the undies) and the blokes were cheering, as apparently I did it for nearly half the straight - I had to explain what I did with the electronics before they realised what happened. One of the officials came storming in and was going to throw me out - until the guys told him it was all a mistake.  No one took a photo though - shame about that.

Never have owned a litre bike, biggest is my current Z800. Had a few 750's in the past though. Always fancied a ZX-10R so will have to have one one day. Just to know I've owned one.😄
