Los Angeles (metro population over 12 million) now requiring indoor masks again.

Makes sense to  adjust minor safety inconveniences when Covid is gaining traction.

I mean how hard is it to wear a mask inside a public place with a bunch of dirty humans?

Don't believe what you read about Covid-19 vaccines on the internet...

The U.S. Surgeon General Is Calling COVID-19 Misinformation An 'Urgent Threat'

https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2021/07/15/1016013826/the-u-s-surgeon-general-is-calling-covid-19-misinformation-an-urgent-threat

With about a third of adults in the U.S. still completely unvaccinated, and cases of COVID-19 on the rise, the U.S. surgeon general is calling for a war against "health misinformation."

On Thursday, Dr. Vivek Murthy released the first surgeon general's advisory of his time serving in the Biden administration, describing the "urgent threat" posed by the rise of false information around COVID-19 — one that continues to put "lives at risk" and prolong the pandemic.

Murthy says Americans must do their part to fight misinformation.

"COVID has really brought into sharp focus the full extent of damage that health misinformation is doing," Murthy told NPR in an exclusive interview ahead of the advisory's release. Surgeon general's advisories are reserved for significant public health challenges that demand immediate attention.

In some cases, he says, the simplest way to stop the spread is to not share something questionable you read online: "If you're not sure, not sharing is often the prudent thing to do." ...

. . .

yeah, sure.... 😉

But for some, their posts are backed by science and for others, their posts rely on some wacko conspiracy theory with absolutely no basis in fact!

Of that, I'm 100% sure!

Agreed!

f**k getting info from Professors and Scientists who have spent their whole working life studying viruses, epidemiology and such alike. What do they know!

Much better to get your info from the likes of 'Jake the Asshole' and similar 'Window Lickers R Us' websites, they know what's really going on. This big conspiracy has been so well planned, got the whole world sucked in, from totalitarian to socialist governments, to Ultra religious to communist, such a cunning plan that every basement dwelling misfit with an internet connection has it all worked out!

Makes perfect sense .................................well, in their world!

The irony!

Remember the last time you posted about turn the TV off and the virus will disappear, or similar?

I posted in response that where i live there is the biggest number of Ultra Orthodox Jews in the UK, that they don't have TV's, internet or similar. That the virus ripped through them at the start compared to others in the same area, killed quite a few, was shown to be proportionally far more than the average . Specifically because they didn't know, via TV or whatever, weren't aware, so didn't take any measures to mitigate the virus.

You never responded ...

Good post.

Especially as any scientist or specialist actually has a Social media platform (more than one actually) to express their concerns should they have them, plus scientists are unlike us everyday beer swilling joes, they actually try to disprove theories and established facts in order to move science forward.

Of course, any vaccine which would deliberately make males sterile or have a dormant RNA cell which only activated on command (yeah, the tinfoilhatters think that is a fact) would not only be pretty much blown out of the water , it would actually be a scientific revelation as if it were true, as it would be a revolutionary advance in the field of vaccination.

The likes of pfizer etc are not on a govt payroll, their general turnover is good enough without the hassle of a very tight and restrictive (due to legislative constraints) govt contract which effectively puts any claims at their doorstep anyway.

I've had 2 pfizer jabs. My arm hurt a bit. My penis is still the same shape and size (think large, unripe plantain) and my metabolism is running pretty well. A few guys at work got the AZ and felt crap, but now moan more about the weather than anything else.

To all anti vaxxers:

The TB , Polio and Smallpox jabs all seemed to work pretty well. Ask yourselves why your parents didn't refuse them, and while you're all at it, throw up a few examples of those jabs doing some damage.

There have been scientists and specialist expressing their views on Social Media platforms but if their views do not fit into the view of mainstream media or the ones who run those platforms...their messages are removed.

The part in bold...not altogether true.... pfizer and the likes are on Govt's payroll as they are making buckets of money from them. As an example ......Pfizer has signed a contract for $1.95billion deal just with the US Govt..and have deals with other Govts also. So your claim there is mute.

cheers

So if I buy a product from someone then the seller is on my payroll. Interesting concept.

So the initial Pfizer order had a unit price of $US19.50 per dose. Can you provide a breakdown of that $US19.50 showing the profit margin to back up you "buckets of money" claim. The last vaccinations I had where I had to pay for the vaccine was in the order of $AU170 per dose.

So Monday is the start of 'freedom' in England. Yeah right.......

Masks still gonna be needed on transport, many shops are doing the same etc.

Then add in the NHS app fiasco. Anyone else think it's a convenience that its suddenly going into hyper drive and telling everyone to isolate in the run up to opening up?. Transport, shops, factories etc. are being closed due to lack of staff.

It's lock down by the back door to limit numbers on the streets. And now add in the South African variant that has conveniently appeared to up the panic level.

Full lock down by September.

Read again.

Pfizer has entered into a contract with Govts.... in simple terms they are now a contractor for the Govt.... will get paid by the Govt...which means for length of the contract until it is satisfied...then they are indeed on the Govt's payroll.

If you think that Pfizer is not making a good profit on the contracts they have with Govts...no problem....up to you.

So you have not been vaccinated for covid yet???  If you have ... the vaccine would be free for you in Australia. If not.... then maybe you should not be having shots at others who have not had the jab...just saying.

cheers

No doubt Pfizer is making a good profit on the vaccine, but by definition payroll is compensation paid to a company's employees. Pfizer has a contract to supply govts with the vaccine, but that does not make them an employee of the govt and therefore they are not on the govt's payroll.

I guess, for me personally anyway, how we view freedom

It's clear that the world will not be free from Covid and its variants for some time to come.

Whatever the date, there is no magic switch and I see Monday as yet another transition away from lockdown.

I would prefer wearing a mask only in certain settings  than everywhere as before. It will be interesting to see how many people continue to wear masks out of choice come Monday and the following weeks and months.

I have my 3 monthly follow up appointment on Tuesday and will have to use a train and tube. I am fine wearing a mask that day when at the hospital and for short journeys to get there. I would do so whether it was compulsory or not.

Like many of us, I have had 2 jabs, but I am yet to be convinced that I am invincible.

I agree that it is possible that things may change again come September or beyond but of course that will largely depend on the impact of the vaccine with regards to hospitalisation and death.  I don't think that anything is a given at this point, with cases rising again in UK.

None of us enjoy wearing a mask (unless it's made out of leather) 😁, but at least many have at least gotten used to it by now.  I met some friends in a large pub on Friday evening, and it was packed. Felt just like it used to be before the start of the Pandemic.

Lets hope that Monday is a good start to consumer and business recovery although many small businesses sadly never survived the previous restrictions.

For now, I am a cautious optimist. I hate wearing a safety belt when driving but I do it anyway. I do t know whether I could endure another lockdown though

Hoping for joint flu/Covid booster jab in October and that we are all on the way out of this shit that has caused so much death and misery for the last eighteen months.

Nice sensible insight mate.

Covid don't look like it's going away anytime soon, so we have to get back to normal, the economy and people's health and livelihoods depends on it.

All we can do is vaccinate and get on with it. Sadly there will be casualties, but the flu is no different. We can't wait for zero Covid, that looks unlikely in the near future.

Only thing we can do is leave people to make their own decision on masks, numbers gathering etc.

The consensus view from Prof Whitty, Dr Harries et al, is COVID will continue to be a problem in the UK till the end of winter, so let's say March 2022!!

It's a shame there's been so little analysis of the anti reopening argument. No one has pressed the proponents of staying in lockdown when they would actually open up.

Deaths have dropped like a stone with vaccination (best not say fallen off a cliff). We've got to start treating COVID as being endemic and with us for the forseeable  future in the UK that we just have to live with.

The only independent coffee shop near me has gone out of business in recent days. God knows how many other shops and business will never recover from this. For me we are in a great place with all the vaccination that has taken place, time to recover what's left of the economy, in particular the small businesses who don't have the resources to sit this out indefinitely

Pharmaceutical companies have always made profit unless state owned. They also invest millions into research and development. With the Covid vaccines, its hardly surprising that governments will offer contracts to those companies that can supply.

Not much different to arms deals in a way and there is profit in war. Maybe not always ethical, but the way of the world.  In UK, I think most of us would be happier with the government supplying us with free vaccines, rather than having to pay directly for it which in itself would restrict or affect the poorest from accessing it.
