Popular Post tko
I met my lady after almost 20 years of mongering in Thailand, while pursuing a successful career in the West. By then I was fairly fluent in Thai, and over the years had filled my home in the West with Thai art/furniture/statuary. As we became serious, I told her of when I planned on retiring to Thailand (plans made as a single monger). She told me of what she hoped for in life. I eventually decided that she was the Thai addition I needed in my home in the West. Over the years, we had wonderful times, she was adored by all who met her, and we added children to our lives. As time went on she was my comfort through the passing of my grandparents and later my parents. There is a significant age difference between us. As I approached the time for retirement I had planned so long ago, I realized financially there was no reason not to retire, and no ties left there, other than friends who also visited Thailand often. Also at that time, her grandparent's health was failing. We made the move, and I was beside her at her grandparents funerals. We first built upcountry, in the village she loved, but after a while it was too remote for me. We've since reached a happy compromise, we're near the coast, the kids have good schools, there is good health care, and many attractions/restaurants/etc available. Her family is able to visit her here, and we visit there during school breaks. It is a six hour drive, which is a good distance for in-laws I think. So, the reasons I planned so long ago to retire to Thailand ultimately had nothing to do with the reason I actually retired to Thailand. 2 1
Freee!!
Depending on how things develop, I might retire in Thailand as my wife likes it (a lot better than her native Vietnam) and it is a lot closer to Vietnam and her parents than Europe in case something happens. 4
code_slayer_bkk
All I can say is you gotta trust before you can love ... trust doesn't just happen ... it has gotta be earned and proven ... and this takes time ... time always tells you the truth about another person ... In my case, it took me 12 years to finally marry Beach gal ... I know a little excessive ... but, I had to be certain I could trust her ... marriage is not an easy decision to make ... at least for me ! Some of these horror stories about the Thai gal and farang husband going " tits up " is a little sad but at the same time the farang should have taken his time ... before just jumping in with both feet ... spending ( wasting ) what baht he has available .... You always have to keep a "nest egg" of baht now one knows about except yourself as a gigantic safety net in the event things go "tits up" .. seems to me starting over again at 50 and above is a gigantic waste of time and a lesson that no ones needs to go through ... I am certain "time" and I made a very good decision with regards to Beach gal .... Just wish others would use the same caution .... didn't mean to preach at anyone ................

Do you know that there are plenty of options for your Visa? Please see the article here. It's a nice country to spend your life, right? A beautiful country indeed! Interesting. Unfortunately there is no mention of the requirements as set out by ThaiVisa Forum Moderators. You need to live within a 15 minute drive of your nearest Immigration Office and your bank must open at 9am. Otherwise you will be banned for having "A sob story". If you don't fit in with the ThaiVisa Forum "It only takes 5 minutes" then you are a worthless individual that doesn't deserve to live here !
