We think this was taken in Austria after the Nazi surrender. Cheers. Can't see how anyone who is involved directly in war would not be affected. Same here, my grandad was in WW1, he died when I was about 5. My father was in the Jat regiment in India. He was a captain in the British Army, but was seconded to the Jat Regiment as a Major, based in Bareilly. I took my mother and father to India in 1985 and they visited Bareliiy,40 years after they got married. I wasn't allowed to go with them as it was a military zone. Both my mother (who was a Captain in the Queen Alexandra's Royal Army Nursing Corp) and my father (ex Major) were met off the train at the town station with a military band and escorted to their quarters as honoured guests. They were really treated as VIPs. 1 2
tommy dee
I spent a short time in east German before the wall came down and when it was Ruski. at that time nothing had really been fixed from the war, so Dresden was simply built new and much of the old city was fenced off with decaying wooden fences so you just went thru and walked around. Colditz then was just a village and I did go to the castle, a loonie bin then. and have seen the concentration camps too, which are vile. My Dad lost his youth, as many di, to the war. it did affect him for sure. he actually served in botht the Navy and Army ( captain) and demobbed as all did to find no jobs and his home area, London, much flattened. Funny thing is that he, and all the old timers, kept their chat to themselves and only shared the fun stories with us nippers
