Drove up to Korat, first time for me as a passenger I'm usually the driver but bro in law came & picked us up.There's a new motorway for about the last 70 or so klicks-the M6-fortunately it moves a lot faster than its namesake in England. Quite a bit to do as the house has been empty since Oct 22 but we're just about to go to the Mall for some vitals.Top of the list is beer Chang👹....I'm fucking gagging for some.Hot as hell up here.

  9. Ice fishing on a frozen lake in Lapland. Wild reindeer walking past, the silence, the at one with nature. Loads of small Perch, but it was the experience, just sitting there 'in the wonder' to quote a well known Pattaya chap lol Wonderful!

  11. Better late than never, I came home with several pouches of curry paste, thanks to @Painter. Tonight I threw an onion, 400ml of coconut oil and 250g of chicken in a pan with a pouch of Penang paste. Served on a bed of Mexican rice. Very happy with the outcome and will be bringing more packets home next trip. @Binlidhas put me onto another paste to try here too, but that's for another time.

  12. Not got an insurance quote yet, but my last Z800 was in the low 200’s, plus I have a fair amount of NCB . I have a couple of proper solid chains as unfortunately I have no off road parking or garage currently but my area is pretty good so it’s not an issue.

  17. I've been wanting to try the Carabao beers for a while, but my usual sources of booze - Makro, Friendship and Villa - don't seem to stock it. I was in Lotus last week and noticed that they had some so I bought a couple of large bottles, one the lager and the other the dunkel. The price was very reasonable, I think 62 or 64 Baht per bottle, and I wasn't expecting much but I was pleasantly surprised. The lager is an easy drink, smooth with a pleasant taste. I'd certainly sooner drink that than Chang or Singha, anyway. It's at least as good as any other Thai lager-style beer I've tried, anyway. And then the more interesting one was the dunkel. Again, an easy drink with a nice, gentle toasty flavour. My only criticism was that the head disappears far too quickly once it's been poured, but I've noticed that with a number of the dark lagers. For 64 Baht you can't go wrong, anyway, if you like a dunkel. It's not going to win any prizes against the German dunkels, but it's less than half the price of those and I think most of us can forgive that for a saving of between 70 and 100 Baht a bottle. (To be totally fair, the German beers tend to be in half-litre bottles, whereas the Carabao bottles are 620 ml, so the price difference isn't quite a much as that.)

  18. A word of warning, there's a plot of vacant land next to the DG where this morning a digger has started very noisy work. We're in room 618 - I think if you get an odd numbered room you'll be away from it. Glad we're leaving this morning or I'd be after a change of room.

  19. Last night, I went with my brother and nephew to see a cover band called Absolute Bowie. Their first set was all Ziggy, and after the break they changed to more modern attire to play most of Bowie's later songs. Small venue but great night. I wore my Bowie 1973 Ziggy concert tshirt which, amazingly, got a few ladies complimenting me. Even got a kiss on the cheek from a lovely lady as I was leaving, a bit of a shock but didn't take it further, must be getting old. Hampton Hub is small but perfect for cover bands. Will add videos if I work out how to make it less than 19mb, maybe somebody here can tell me how to do that as the two videos I want to put on are 50 and 80 mb.

  20. Snowshoe trekked to a hermits cabin this morning. Guy was a photographic journalist, just decided he'd had enough of the world he knew. Went to the wilderness, built himself a 'cabin', lived his life out. He's dead now, though thankfully people are respectful. His cabin is pretty much as he had it, even still has his passport. Some people are just built different.

  21. Caught up with all of my recordings, went for a longer walk this afternoon as the sun was out and a lovely day. Called into the pub for 3 pints of Old Original as my last chance to enjoy for a while. Dinner cooked and eaten, now enjoying a bottle of red watching the snooker players championship on ITV 4.

  23. Trying to decide what motorcycle to buy. Need to get some transport, so it’s down to what I fancy. Money isn’t an issue, got a lot of money that Jan gave me so I don’t need to worry about the price. Do like the ZX-6R in the 40th anniversary colours, that’s £10,859 brand new which is what I’d be looking at.

  24. The owners of hotels that size probably have a better knowledge of Pattaya's future plans than the bar owners and vloggers that continually say "It'll never happen" ..... I think there will definitely be some sort of monorail system in the future and it will definitely have an effect on businesses on the sois joining beach road and second road .. and further east ..

  25. I don't live in Pattaya, I don't even live in Thailand. Where I do live has pretty good air quality. Recent air quality from a monitoring station near where I live. The peak value is AQI 36. Of course we do have the occasional summer bushfire, the spring and autumn hazard reduction burns and the odd winter inversion. I do have an air purifier, a Samsung AX5500 although I believe that it has been superseded by the AX46. https://www.samsung.com/au/air-care/air-purifier/ax5500-air-purifier-with-3-way-air-flow-ax46bg5000gssa/ The specs are identical just some unnecessary changes to the appearance. These are expensive, not for Cheap Charlies. As Tommy Dee once posted "it's just a box, a fan and a filter element and can cost more than an air conditioner." This model is good for 60 square metres. Samsung do have other models. The more important spec as far as I'm concerned is that it can process 467 cubic metres of air per hour. I just use it in the bedroom which is probably a bit of overkill but I do breath clear fresh mountain air when I sleep. The filter system. The carbon and dust filter are bonded together and cannot be serviced. Replace when indicated on the control panel. The pre-filter collects lint and fluff and can be cleaned with a light vacuuming. I use it nightly and am still on the original filter after 3 years. In the interest of science and this post I measured the dust collecting filter. It has 105 pleats, 38mm deep and 175mm wide which by my calculations is a filtering area of just under 1.4 square metres. PS. Might be worthwhile on informing yourself on what a HEPA filter actually is and more importantly be aware that some people who don't recognise copyright might be producing fake filters. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HEPA The purifier has indicators on the control panel for PM10, PM2.5 and PM1 as well as "gas". I believe the main gas found in the urban home is formaldehyde which is give off by carpets and furnishings. On the other hand a good healthy fart in the near vicinity to the unit can turn the gas indicator from blue to red for a few minutes. The unit is certainly quiet enough to use in a bedroom and being on wheels can be moved about to where it's required. Anything else you want to know just ask.

  32. This is one of the oldest websites that I think is out there regarding Pattaya, run by a German guy I think and it's been around for over 20 years. The name has changed and it's not what the name suggests: http://www.pattayasweethearts.com/ On the right hand side of the main site logo is a link which gives a drop down menu. http://www.pattayasweethearts.com/menu.html and the newsflash page. http://www.pattayanewsflash.com/2024/february.html If the owner is on here, I'd like to say "Thank you" for providing a no nonsense and informative site for all these years, and long may it continue.
