  1. My honest opinion is nicely fitted out I just don't understand how they'll separate from one bar to the next. We went in sat in the middle and a girl with a drink card from another bar not the bar we were sitting in front of rushed over to get our drink order. So it seems that all those tables in the middle it's a free-for-all for customers and for the bars to go get their customers. The problem is going to come from you'll have a bar that will have a group of very aggressive service girls and they'll be running up and down that place not mattering where their bar is located in the complex because they can take drink orders throughout. I can see this becoming a problem between the bars. The Winn bar had food catered in for the grand opening from a Chinese place here in town very nice but again here comes the problem the food is at their bar but you've got 200 people sitting in the middle of the place not sitting at any specific bar having drinks from all the other bars. Well I Can Only Imagine that some of those guys are going to take advantage and Wander Over and Avail themselves of the offerings despite not even drinking or having drinks from that particular bar. I think the customer prices are pretty much in line I think they're. Fair Lady drinks at 170 baht with the girls getting 70 of that as a commission. If you're sitting in the middle and say you order a drink from Caesar's Palace bar and a girl comes over to have a chat with you from Planet Hollywood Bar and you decide you'd like to buy her a drink now you have 2 bins. One of our group asked the girls if after getting the drink they could wander through the complex and have a look with their drink in their bin to which she replied no you have to settle your been here before you can walk through and look at the other places. I understand why they want you to do this because there is going to be without question some bins that are missing at the end of the night with people wandering through before settling up at the particular bar where they got the drink from It was considerably cooler in the complex than it was outside so the air conditioning was working as the owner said 880000 BTU's the electric bill is going to be absolutely massive. The music level I thought was just about right you could hold a conversation and hear what the others were saying this is when the DJ was there before the band started we left before the band got going so can't comment on that. The bar fine is 800. As another board member that we met there said this could very well work for the tourists but I don't think they're going to get a tremendous expat following or guys that have been coming for years and I could be wrong it would not be the first time. I wish them the best it takes a big set of balls to get into a venture like this

  2. Good summary by Larry. I thought the place had a good vibe going and have come around to thinking the place stands a good chance of being a success. I suspect they'll have a problem with drink and dash customers as it's going to be very hard for the staff to keep a watchful eye on all their customers. Made harder by the fact there is nothing to distinguish one bart's bin from another bar. Unfortunately it's the staff who will have to cover the drink cost when a customer walks away without paying. And as Larry pointed out, their electric bill is going to be massive. Even more so as surprisingly they don't have an air curtain at the entrance. Something unique to the beer garden are dB meters at the front and two bars in on each side. At around 90 dB you could still carry on a converstation without having to shout.

  4. To me it is more about the accuser than the accused. It is definitely popular amongst Farang business owners to bandy about accusations of cheap charlies not wanting to pay their exorbitant prices, whereas I look to see what I am getting for my money compared to other places and just stay away. So am I a cheap bastard?? All they want is your money (of course - they are in business!)! They aren't your mates, especially if you only see them 3 weeks a year but also if you see them 3 times a week but only in their place of business !!!! So in conclusion. I am the biggest cheap bastard I know...!!

  6. Sat in the village trying to tune in to the lingo. Usually takes a week or so although I am surprised how much I am getting. Almost 2 boxes of Chang deep it’s a good bit of training for the Songkran party fest. For the last 2 months I have been subject to D&A testing at work, so I am due a messy few days 🥳. Edit: They had hailstones in a storm here yesterday, young Smiler had never seen before. Which makes it first time for at least 13 or so years. Anyway it’s kin hot but not uncomfortable.

  7. I have NOT seen one water gun, high pressure or other wise in the last 5 days here on Beach Rd, at The Hard Rock. As a general rule, most of this in Patts is done in the side Soi's? Ok by me if that is the case....our last night here....everyday at the pool for at least an hour has been great.

  13. The tightest person I've ever met is an old English lady friend of my wife. She has always had money and was always very well connected, she was a body double in the 60's film Blow Up & used to go out with the son of Don Arden,an infamous music manager of the time who lived in Bel-Air.She also lived in her own house in Barnes, but has since moved to Richmond, pocketing a load of cash from the Barnes sale. When she goes on the tube she scours the ground outside the station for discarded tickets & when the missus first introduced me to her in 1991 she called me a terrible man, because after buying her a drink in Tim Beer Bar on beach road I told her it was her round.

  14. I came in on Qatar yesterday around 1pm. LHR to Doha was ok but Doha to BKK was painful TBH - IFE was faulty, food was shite and my seat just wasn’t comfortable. Not too impressed with the new terminal, felt like everything was simply not big enough and passengers are squashed into the train, escalators etc. Passport control was busy but efficient, it took about 15 mins from entering the hall to walking through customs. I only had carry on luggage so no wait at the carousel. Flying domestic today up to Udon and swampy is as busy as I have seen it. Glad I booked 3 weeks ago. Was out with one of the hi-so relatives last night and he said Thai is completely booked up this Songkran week….

  15. With regards to the sound meters, my local pub has them and the power to the stage area is wired through them. If the band is exceeds a certain level they loose power. During a Cold Chisel tribute show at the beginning the power kept on being cut to the band until they lowered the volume.

  17. Reminds me of a swim meet I competed in decades ago. I was in high school and it was a state meet held at the UW-Madison natatorium. I wandered into the shower room on my way to finding the bathroom. My head was down thinking of my upcoming big event when I heard a cough, cough and a bunch of laughter. I looked up and to my embarrassment realized I had walked into the women's shower room by mistake. Man oh man, did I get an eye full of very healthy looking college coeds.

  19. If you get around by motorbike head down Pattaya Tai, cross 3rd road then when you have passed Pattaya City Resort, but before Soi Khopai/Soi 16, there is an offie on the left. That is where I used to buy my "box wine"..... Mont Clair was 920 baht whilst everywhere else was 993. Not a big saving unless you drink a box every 2 days ..... And they sell La Vida ..

  21. Totally agree.. Back in the olden days I used Best on Dolphin roundabout because it was so easy to drive in, park park round the back, drive around again then head on up to Surin.. Good prices and you could buy before 11am.... The one on Pattaya Tai opens early too if you are ever desperate ...

  22. You might say so.... we had a tidal surge 3 nights ago combined with spring tides... instead of the predicted 5.5m high tide, it hit about 6.3.... unfortunately our sea defences are only 6.2m... so many flooded fields and properties. My neighbouring sailing club's carpark/boat park is currently 8' under, with the sea defences now doing a damn good job of keeping the water in. There is an ancient but well serviced sluice gate that the original farmers used to drain the marshes that are now car park... except the handle is 5' under and no one can find it... Fortunately apart from a few low flying pebbles, I got off unscathed.

  23. This sounds good..... But for central Pattaya.....I would say Friendship has the cheapest wine prices...They try hard to keep prices down even in the face of Thailands awful wine policies and taxes.... The BEST alcohol store on Pattaya Klang was neck and neck with Friendship for the cheapest prices for years but the race is over and Friendship is the winner...

  25. I put the wife and her Thai family on a trip up the lakes on a boat. I watched from the jetty as they sat down on deck seats, just at that moment 2 of those RAF jets flew overhead at a very low height right above them and frightened the F**k out of all of them and me standing on the quayside as I was waving them off.

  28. Just finished reading about how hot it is here. Searing heat is back across Southeast Asia and it’s not going away anytime soon ... Thailand has been worst hit, Herrera said, adding that heat forecasts there have been especially dire. Temperatures across the country had been “breaking non-stop records” for 13 months – and heat and humidity levels were relentless, he said. “We thought temperatures last year were unbearable but (what we are seeing) this year has beaten that – temperatures in Bangkok won’t drop below 30 degrees Celsius, even at night for the rest of April,” Herrera told CNN. “The trend is inescapable. The region has to prepare for terrible heat for the rest of April and most of May.” On April 3, as Thailand entered its annual dry season, the capital Bangkok clocked temperatures of around 109 degrees Fahrenheit – prompting many to stay indoors in air-conditioned comfort. ...
