Life is all about enjoying oneself in retirement imo, i try not to do anything i don't enjoy. I get all the exercise i want with wifey, now if my thinking is shortening my life then so be it, i could'nt GAF....... I'm here to enjoy myself.

It would be great if it were a much larger chunk of road, equivalent to his body weight, that was left glued to his hand. Pull the battery from his phone. Then take him to the outskirts of town, drop him off on a seldom used stretch of road and tell him he's free to go.

Interesting question Mike, what with my lifestyle/consumption i never get stomach bloating. I only ever drink half a bottle of a Chang large beer per night at home, wifey will have a couple of small glasses and bin the rest then its a couple of sangsom cokes and thats it, when we're out its red wine with dinner and then however many sangsom cokes i care to consume usually 2/3, wifey sticks to the red wine, usually only a couple of glasses. I'm a believer in moderation, i'm quite happy doing all the things that are not considered good for me but ALWAYS try to never over indulge and usually succeed. As previously said i don't/can't get involved with exercising due to the fact i don't like it plus the stroke i suffered 2 years ago has seriously effected my walking/balance but wifey is exercising virtually every morning for at least an hour and at 42yo she enjoys it. We are all different ehh ?

Yet tourists aren’t the only visitors flocking to the Thai capital. In recent years, the city has seen an alarming rise in snake sightings. Bangkok’s Fire and Rescue Department has recorded a massive 300 percent increase in snake-related calls in the past five years. Their favourite hiding spots? Toilets. Read on to discover the reason behind these intimate encounters. Bangkok’s Murky Past Snake encounters in the Thai capital are historically part and parcel of living there. Bangkok was founded on the banks of the Chao Phraya River after all, a lush marshland providing fertile breeding grounds for its slithering inhabitants. In 2006, the city’s Suvarnabhumi Airport was opened on land formerly known as ‘Cobra Swamp’ — a nickname fulfilled, as numerous snakes ended up in people’s suitcases. Yet as Bangkok’s economy grows and its tourism demand increases, the city will continue to entrench itself on the natural habitat of these creatures. With nowhere to go, snakes are now slithering their way into people’s homes. On November 27, 2017, Bangkok’s Fire and Rescue Department reported 31,801 calls from people asking for snake removal this year. Compared with 10,492 calls in 2012, this is a significant stretch — marking a 300 percent increase over the past five years. These strange events have resulted in some horrific encounters: one man almost lost his penis after wrestling with a 10ft python that emerged from his squat toilet. Fearing the loss of his manhood, he pried open the jaws of the python before passing out and being admitted to hospital. Another Bangkok resident, Panarat Chaiyaboon, was bitten on the thigh by an 8ft python lurking in her toilet. Only a week later, her daughter found a second python in the same spot. It’s clear Bangkok has a problem with snakes, and the problem isn’t so easy to fix. While it paints a scary picture, the figures alone are not totally accurate. As some have suggested, the increase in snake calls could indicate a widening awareness of the Fire Department’s serpentine rescue duties. On the other hand, the numbers don’t register the amount of snakes caught, killed or released by locals or other wildlife groups — meaning the total figures could be much, much higher. A Snake’s Smorgasbord One major theory is that Thailand’s ineffective waste management system contributes to this mass exodus of snakes towards urban areas. Greenpeace reported that only 466 of the 2,490 waste management centres around the country follow proper procedure. That leaves over 80 percent of Thailand’s urban spaces subject to more trash on the street, leading to more pests (such as rats) — the perfect dinner for a hungry serpent. Unlike in the countryside, there aren’t too many predators in Bangkok, meaning snakes who invade the city are free to eat and grow as long as they please. Snakes Seeking Refuge But the question remains — why toilets? In Panarat Chaiyaboon’s case, officials discovered a hole in the family’s sewage pipe, wide enough for a snake to squeeze its way through. Many snakes are known to sleep or lounge about in water. As previously mentioned, their habitats include marshes, swamps and rainforests. A toilet is the perfect place for a serpent to cozy up and protect itself from the scorching Thai sun. Scientific studies have proven that cold-blooded snakes aren’t able to regulate their body temperatures. As a result, they cannot cool themselves down without a source of water. With no natural lakes or rivers in Bangkok’s bustling metropolis, toilets are not just a convenient refuge for snakes, but a biological necessity. A Wetter Year than Normal With all that said, this isn’t a problem that can solely be blamed on people’s actions. A further theory points to the weather. This November, Thailand had an exceptionally wet year, with flash floods caused by heavy monsoon rains decimating the country’s southern provinces. This wet weather has seen snakes heading indoors and seeking higher ground in order to survive. Learning to Live Together? Pinning all the blame on one single cause is difficult, if not ineffective. As long as humans continue to expand into the territory of snakes, further sightings in people’s homes, gardens and toilets are to be expected. The citizens of Bangkok have taken it upon themselves to create groups on the popular LINE messaging app, where photos of snakes can be submitted to help residents identify if their new houseguests are venomous. It is one of several steps being taken that indicate, at least in a few cases, humans and snakes are learning to live together. Why, Thais only have to look at their very own Cobra Village as an example of human-reptile harmony. Is Bangkok ready to become a city of snakes? Probably not. But for now, residents have learned to think twice before they flush. . . .

Taking this long drive to Pattaya tomorrow has reminded me of the regular trips I used to take around 15 years ago driving from Kamphaengphet to Pattaya. I'd get into The Rock House late Friday night and have a great time in there, mainly because Mulphy was always in the Philippines during that period and Mrs Mulphy was more relaxed when he wasn't there. It really was a great place to be in those days, especially having a good snog with Leeta (RIP) before she had to go work on a customer that wanted to barfine her..... They really were Happy Days !!

Cardiff University hospital Derek.Just made an announcement that the wait to be screened is 2.5 hrs and wait to see a doctor is 4 hrs, he or she will then have to send me for an xray, I will then have wait for specialist to look at the Xray to decide what they are going to do and then wait for it to be done.

First time since I arrived home I've got shorts on, and it's nearly warm...

Thanks. Now comes the next part -> getting everything in the trip scheduled. I enrolled the Mrs for an American Airlines Advantage membership this afternoon. We may as well collect the points for these occasional very long trips. I will hold off on buying airplane tickets until after she has her passport-visa in hand (probably about 1 week). I want to read any visa terms before committing to the tickets. Airfare is going to be the biggest ticket item for the trip. We are going to fly Business Class (probably on JAL through Tokyo (HND)). Since I am waiting that long, I will wait until after the 17th (cycle closing date for my Amex card). Lots of other things to do, but all are dependent on the travel dates.

I’m just back from the gym so might have a wank before my shower. 😀

The Mrs was granted a US B1 Tourist Visa this Morning. She put in a solid effort preparing for the interview. There must have been 100 applicants at the US Embassy this Morning, many of whom left unhappy. I think that the Mrs was successful for two primary reasons. She has previously traveled to the West (Norway). She owns in her own name a fairly significant amount of land, property, etc. Being married to a US citizen who holds a long term Thai retirement visa probably did not hurt as well.

One year I cut down beer intake. I'd guesstimate about 8 beers/week reduction = roughly 150 x 8 = 1,200 calories. Watched my carbs and worked out regulary. Lost 40 pounds in 1 year. I have pretty much kept it off ever since. Not ever gonna quit beer completely. Life is meant to be enjoyed.

The best part of all of that is that you had the sense and composure to cut losses early while maintaining a positive outlook on the future. Congrats man.

I got roped in to The Royal Tournament at Earls Court in 1976ish but I doubt that is what you meant. It had three highlights.. 1 The Field Gun Competition. 2. A group of sexy WRENS dancing on a stage to the Hornpipe toon 3. Some young sailor climbing a mast with his mates ...

I have minimal empathy for these guys. Sure the negative financial impact can be devestating. But, I would rather live a lower standard of living with my dignity intact than to waste the rest of my precious years feeding some hog. Somehow, someway in my early years I recognized within myself that the odds of surviving a marraige was very low. I was able to adjust the emotional governor somehow. As the years passed I witnessed more and more of the marraige carnage which reinforced the recognition that I was wise with my choices (at least in that respect). At my age and time in life now I appreciate even more the vision I had as a young man. No doubt there are challenges, but most days are good even considering. The other option surely would have resulted in sheer misery.
